Ross Lyon has been using a game plan from 2005 since then, has not evolved or had a secondary game plan. Once Fremantle are down on the score board by a reasonable amount, they cannot come back and win. They're being smashed by Sydney at half-time, it's the end of the season. Why don't they just cut their losses, pay out the two years left on his contract, beat GC to the best coach available and rebuild?

You did not watch his interview on Footy Classified a few weeks back?

The man himself said even if Freo did not make finals again for the term of his contract he is confident in his position :drunk:

Lyon isn't at fault for the insipid effort seen today. The effort has simply been none existent today.

    • Re game plan. The game plan has most definitely evolved. Find the similarities between the 2nd half of 2015 and how they played against GWS a few weeks back.
    • I think you'll find the side is rebuilding. Majority of the side are younger players with a few older players such as DPearce being played due to just about no one else left.

Won't happen. He and the CEOs are all as bad as each other and in it together.

Also some Freo supporters (ala the ones on this forum) think he's a good coach.

He's ******* shit and essentially always has been. He constricts players and doesn't like change and is also one of the biggest excuse makers in football.

Even when Freo was playing in the GF they always seem to be a team playing without joy, a team that has all the flare and instinct coached out of them.

Shame he didn't run in the US presidential election last year. Biggest gift of a nickname Trump could possibly wish for - Ross Lyin'.

Yup. You can coach players out of their talent. I strongly believe he does. I can't believe so many of your supporters think he's a good coach. I can't see you getting near a premiership with him in charge.

Rubbish OP. While they have been poor today, Freo are a young developing side for the most part, they are not a contender. The side they are playing is a quality contender and it is in Sydney. To say that Ross Lyon is a bad coach and doesn't evolve is foolish. I would argue he has evolved quite a bit this year alone.

I guess this is like Dons fans wanting Buckley to stay on?

So you're putting Ross Lyon in the same category as Nathan Buckley? I don't think Buckley is that awful either, for what it is worth.

I don't want Ross to stay on because he is a terrible coach if that is what you're implying.

If you think Ross is a good coach you should stop watching football.

Freo did very well against GWS and Geelong away. I think this performance is just one of those days. Rebuilding teams have at least a few a year. Plenty of better sides have gone to the SCG and got flogged in the past.

    Get stuffed.

The home preliminary final in 2013 versus Sydney is one of my favourite Freo memories.

Electric game with a whole heap of passion and we smashed them.

How can he still be coaching? As a supporter base you cant accept results like today , no matter the rebuild/list stage

This post sums up a lot of Freo fans and their inability to see what is actually happening out there.
    Rose coloured lenses.

If the coach isn't at fault for a teams effort of a 100 point bollocking, who is?

Who was at fault for the 117 point bollocking early in Clarkson's reign at Hawthorn? If coaches of rebuilding teams got sacked after every bad game no coach would ever make it to 50 games.

Lyon has us on an upward curve in our rebuild so far - 8 wins this year after only 4 last year. We're tracking ok, he deserves the chance to see out his contract and finish the job.

The inability of players of not running both ways in the midfield and making bonehead decisions in the back half and front half isn't necessarily the fault of the coach.

Richmond loss to Sydney by 113 points at the same ground last year. Yet they didn't sack Hardwick, who is a pretty poor coach himself.

These things happen. Sydney are an incredible side that should be in the top 4.

Online forum to a tee. The last game is the only one that matters. I'm bloody glad we didn't sack the coach every time we got flogged prior to last year. If not rebuolding Freo are certainly going through a transitional phase.

The last coach of a team that lost by 100 or more twice in a season was James Hird I think*. Who got the sack not long after the second belting, yet Ross is still teflon coated.

The club and coach deserve each other with this kind of performance, at least now Rodney Eade is gone ol' Rossy can set his sights on coaching the most games without a premiership, and for the sake of 17 other clubs may he net the record at Fremantle ;)

*Happy to be stood corrected if wrong

Can see why people don't like the way Lyon coaches. When he was at St Kilda it frustrated me often.

But players that have played for him generally love him as a coach. Like all coaches there would be exceptions but it's nonsense for outsiders to claim players don't like playing for him.

He's obviously at the very least a good coach getting two different squads to GF's. Whether he's a great coach is debatable.

I was frustrated from his first game against the Swans :p

Then again having a coach who was all about attack, seeing our players kick bags of goals (heck even Brent Guerra :D) would make one frustrated I suppose :'(

It actually sickens me how the media have always rated Lyon on the same level as Clarkson. Lyon has run with the same archaeic gameplan for a decade. Clarkson has had many and continues to evolve.

Good coach but by no means a great like the media and David King in particular always reel off.
