No shorly not Carlton didnt want to trade fev to us. But i do hate the saints with a passion i hate everyone at the footy team except Ball and Hayes and now with Ball gone i hate them even more. If we get Ball the next time Ross Lyon goes on SEN we should all ring up and STICK IT RIGHT UP HIM!!!!
 
If Luke Ball gets past pick 18, the next likely pick is Essendons; at pick 24.

I want to see the interview when he receives a question from a journo in response to this (from his interview today):

"What we're about to find out at the national draft is Luke Ball - where's he rated? Ask me the question afterwards and see whether it was fair and equitable or not," Lyon said.

Pick 18 he'll say we were justified, if it's pick 24:rolleyes:

Exactly. Ross Lyon had the option of Goldsack+#30, or #25+#62, but instead he chose zip.

In order to justify turning down any compensation of any measure for Luke Ball, he'd have to go somewhere in the top 10, and we all know that ain't going to happen.

Carlton did have some reasoning for not wanting us to have Fev. There would of been outcry from our supporters and it is not as if Fev wanted to go to collingwood and collingwood only. While I do hate Carlton with a passion to a certain extent they are a necessary evil without them to hate footy just wouldn't be as fun.

St.Kilda I have hated for quite some time there was the Greening incident, The fact there 1 pitiful premiership came at our hands. There brigade of rapists (Milne Montagna and Lovett). The way there supporters have carried on after one year of good footy when they haven't even won the premiership. The ball saga has just been the stick that broke the camels back there was no reason for the saints not to get that deal done other than that they wanted to screw shit up.

In order to appreciate the best of anything there must be a worst, which that which is more than crap can be measured.
 
I don't understand his logic at all. His club will not be vindicated at all even if Ball gets picked up with Melbourne's 1st draft pick. They get nothing.

Vindicated would mean if we failed to trade with picks 25 and 62 on let's say Thursday of draft week and another club offered a lower pick eg 24. Then ok, fair enough they would be vindicated in not sending Ball our way for they would have got a better deal. They could then say 'see, that's why we didn't want collingwoods offer, we got a better deal'.

But this did not happen and they got nothing- so no vindication in your decision.

Exactly!

That's the only logic that fits.

As it stands, the Saints lost as they got nothing and where never offered anything better.

For real? I thought St Knackers still had reasonable hopes of persuading Ball to stay - they followed him to New York after that. Nice way to go about convincing him to stay if true.
 
If we get Ball tonight, he will be whisked straight off to the plane and destination ARIZONA to join the rest and bond with his new team mates,so will the other draft picks we get.

Lyon and Williams (Didak/Stevens) are both idiots.

Wouldn't you rather get SOMETHING than NOTHING?

Their logic befuddles me. Even if the deal you're being offered is SHIT (which our deal(s) weren't) surely SHIT is better than NOTHING, NOTHING. Nothing is even worse than shit.

There is no logic to Lyon's statement, but he has to say something.

The very fact Ball is in the Draft is proof that the Saints should have accepted what was on offer and no amount of posturing can make nothing equal to a pick or a pick and a player.

I would suggest the Saint failure was in not having had enough discussion with Ball. If they had they would have been aware of how serious he was about leaving the club.
Lyon obviously thought that should a deal not be done with Collingwood, Ball would be amenable to a new contract at St Kilda, which was not the case.
 
Trading their 1st round pick for Andrew Lovett I would have considered an error any day of the week. Would trade perhaps a 3rd rounder for him at best.

Trading for Brett Peake, adds speed, but will he break into this lineup??

Luke Ball they could have traded for Pick 30 + Tyson Goldsack. Goldsack would be a perfect replacement down back for Raph Clarke and would very much solidify their already strong backline. Would have been a walk into their starting 22. Now they also missed out on a promising prospect at 30 which could have been perhaps Josh Thomas or Troy Taylor.

In addition to that they have lost Luke Ball, a great leader and hard inside mid who they simply never gave a chance.

So in effect they missed out on trading a boarderline 22 player in Ball for someone who would have walked into their side in Goldsack and potentially a really handy draftee at 30 in a Thomas or Taylor. Maybe even the greately hyped Griffiths if he lasts to 30.

Also Max Hudghton has retired leaving a real gap down back with now what appears to be limited depth now with also the questionable delisting of Matt Maguire leaving very limited key position options down back.

The best part of the Hudghton retiring is that he has come to Collingwood :D


That said I wouldnt' be surprised if St Kilda won the flag next year. But this offseason they really havn't helped their chances in the slightest and have made it allot easier for sides like the Western Bull Dogs, Collingwood, Adelaide and Brisbane to make up allot of ground on them.

Port after trading Stevens won the flag. Very "us against them" thinking and can work to create the siege mentality. Lyon seems to thrive on that sort of atmosphere so I can see it working.

Mind you, I'm convinced that he thought once Ball came back from OS he had a choice between Melbourne PSD or Saints. I think Lyon underestimated that Ball would take the ND risk.

So I'm not yet saying that Lyon was an idiot in his dealing...but I am saying he went into tradeweek intent on wasting our time. And for that I hope the price is us drafting Ball at 30 and the Saints getting nothing.

I think Ross Lyons Ego is bigger than the club. Surely the club should have told him to pull his head in and trade Ball, last minute for best available.
I understand playing hardball all week for the best deal, but you should definatly still trade at the end for the best deal.

Ross Lyon....Bigger than St Kilda (though not hard)
