Lyon’s method of befriend superstars and alienate depth players won’t fly in the AFL any more. Such a polarising coach that literally can’t coach the full match-day 22 adequately is outdated now.

The difference being that GWS were humiliated badly in the grand final. Granted you had a number of injured players, but still.

From memory it was St Kilda vs Collingwood where a unlucky bounce resulted in a draw rather then win. They were pretty competitive against Geelong too.

Freo's kicking was always a problem under Ross so I don't want to argue this point too much, but Freo without their wasteful kicking at goal against Hawthorn would have won the 2013 Grand Final (10 missed shots in the first half for a 13 point loss.) And a much better result then Sydney and West Coast would have against the same team in 2014 and 2015.

3 grand finals that Lyon realistically could have / should have won is a completely different result then one grand final humiliation.

The word you’re looking for is ‘than’, not ‘then’. Jesus Christ.

Also, Stockholm Syndrome perfectly encapsulates your affection for Ross.

geez youre still under his spell...
Abra ka dabra.
Of those choices, he'd probably have the most chance with Melbourne.

Ironically, with the horrendous Collingwood style defensive games ruling AFL in 2020, he might still do alright.
Disagree, Freo's lack of footskills cost us more than once and he never seemed to get that right. Feel he'd have to same problem with Melbourne.

Think GWS have just enough good users to actually execute the attacking parts of his plan. Also think he needs the quality KPFs.

A finisher that never finished? Both Saints and Freo were already on the rise when he took over thanks to previous coaches.

freo were going backwards when Ross took over. Look at the back half of Harvey’s last season. We got done by 90 points by a rubbish Melbourne team. It was embarrassing. We lost our last 6 games by an average of over 60 points before Ross took over. On the rise? Hardly.

Probably need to bone up on the HR manual if he was to coach again. Maybe he gets a Dusty style chaperone for club events?

We've seen clubs bring in rules like no drinking during the season, which club will be the first to bring in a no pregnancy during the season rule??

God, I hope not. Football grid lock defence systems are ugly enough now. The last thing we need now is more masterful coaching in that direction, that gets results but makes football an uglier spectacle.

Hopefully he sticks to the media as he has a great football mind and will give insight into clubland better than most in that industry. He has been to so many clubs in so many states and knows so many football people in the industry he should just about be the highest paid media person in next few years.

Lyon got pregnant during a season? Barely noticed it tbh.

What in the * are you on about 😂
Stkilda have played in 4 GFs in the last 50 years, Ross Lyon coached half of them and if not for a s**t bounce would have won them their second ever premiership.

Freo have played in 1 GF since they've been in the competition, Ross Lyon was the coach.

He described him as a finisher; I didn’t know just making the grand final was the end game for coaches and players.

Yeah, a bit of luck and maybe the conversation would be different. But the fact is he twice took over clubs with all the foundations laid and even then he couldn’t get over the final hurdle because of a dour, defensive game plan that doesn’t suit grand final cauldrons. Some of the clubs being mentioned don’t have the foundations laid and there’s no evidence he would be able to build a list.

The game has suffered enough

What a load of s**t this whole post is.

'a bit of luck and maybe'
Literally one piece of luck and he's a premiership coach.
All the foundations laid? The * are you talking about? What foundations?
