Funny how people still have that perception, given last year was our best ever and both missed virtually all of the H&A season.

Pardon the intrusion, I don't want to sound excessively obsequious especially after last night, but as an outside observer I see Lyon's coaching today being an entirely different animal from what he did at St. Kilda, especially this year. I don't see Freo falling off the same cliff, and I think the more dynamic offence he's running is going to help with that. On the Pav question, if I had to choose who I would rather not play against us out of Ballantyne or Pav, it's Ballantyne, every day of the week, and twice on semi-final night.

Go away ,if you can find a forum to kick Lyon your'e in like a rat up a drain pipe
Freo supporters are sick of your anti Lyon bullshit
Piss of back to your own loser teams board ,your'e not welcome here

Exactly, whole thread should be deleted and the idiot carded

Nothing wrong with Duritz's question and we can always ignore threads and let them die.

Ritz - Lyon has lifted us from being a lucky to be in the 8, to an expectation of top 4 ...in a very short period of time.

Amongst the young players - next year we will have Crozier, Taberner & Apeness - pushing for auto selection with Sutcliffe and Neale already there. If you're good enough and disciplined- you will get a game.

It was highlighted last night, take our oldest trio out and we have the 4th youngest squad....we need to just keep going to the draft and getting the picks right.

Not Ross Lyon's fault but the club has been starved of a lot of good early first round talent, picked up Fyfe amazingly cheap in one of the very strong drafts. Compromised drafts and finishing high up hasn't produced a lot of obvious superstar talent, but Lyon is one of the best at getting the most out of players and he has pushed a lot of kids through the team.

I don't think it is fair to label him with the StKilda stereotypes, as he has said, he has learnt from the past, like everyone does.

Sure, Freo went out in straight sets, but I think it is going to become a lot more common in an even competition, especially for top 4 teams who travel for their QF. It rarely happened in the past because you rarely had any teams that were any good in the bottom half of the eight. I think the next tier of clubs are diminishing what was once a chasm between the contenders and the rest.

Round 23 was pretty much the decider between 4th and 5th spot, Port and North only finishing a couple of wins outside the top 4 and Freo just one win (and percentage) away from top spot.

Lyon knows he needs more avenues to goal, took a risk on Gumbleton which didn't work but recruited Apeness (19 years old) and Taberner (21 years old) and the club has been looking at trade options. It is not like he is oblivious to the problems. Clarke and Mayne just don't kick enough goals or take enough pressure off Pav.

Fremantle cops the bad rep as being an ageing side, my team is still considered a young and developing side yet our average age on the weekend was 26 years and 1 month and the average number of games was 109.1 while Fremantle was 26 years and 2 months with 99.9 average games. Every good finals side has experienced players leading them. Footy is a constant evolution with old players retiring and young players replacing them.

I reported the idiot but nothing ..Any other board he would be having a holiday:mad:

Why?

It's just a question - he is showing no malice?

Duritz is a bit lateral and does shit like this all over the place ....I genuinely believe it is 95% driven by him just typing the first thing that comes into his head (I have some sympathy for this posting style).

Nah, Moo this guy cant wait for the opportunity to stick the boots into Lyon. Its bad form and down right bad manners to come on here with his Ross bias after a heartbreaking loss.He is an idiot and should be carded

Inappropriate place (Freo board) and time to place a troll thread

He is just amazing how he seems to get the most out players. The way he gets them to follow the game plan & team ethos. He runs a well drilled, professional team. He could very well have a "no dickheads policy" like Sydney. He wouldn't take any crap. If he doesn't win a flag, he'd be considered one of the best coaches not to do so.

It is interesting to hear Ross during his presser provide an insight into a facet of the players' development which will be a focus for improvement.
Comes during his response to a “good question” from Sam Lane I think it is at around 9:10 about what he will stew upon as coach over the preseason:-

“We know we can build more football into our program. It’s quite difficult the tyranny of distance with the travel, the work/rest sort of stuff. So we’ve already spoken that we’d like to work more on our football. More football hours, more time for our coaches to work with our players cos we think that is an area we can find more of. A better goal kicking program, more of it. We know we’ve got plenty of room to move, that’s already been identified. We’re not talking about flogging them, just seeking opportunities of being a bit more creative, cos there’s only so much you can do in the theatre and on the apple mac with them. At the end of the day, you got to do. So we know we’re a bit thinner than we would ideally like. And sometimes that can tie into your clearances. If you can’t get out there and practice it, there’s only so many buttons and whiteboards and apple macs you can draw on and move. At the end of the day, they got to sort of develop the method physically. So we know that’s an area we’re looking to improve on."

Sorry it's a bit of a lengthy rehash but amongst the predictable and tiresome Luke Macpharlin retirement questions, Ross does get inspired by the odd question and accordingly shares some pearls. No coincidence that goal scoring and clearance work are at the front of his mind too.

Ironically, at the same time many are here to take pot shots about his inability to develop, he's conducting a press conference addressing a focus of development.

Moo is right, not sure why the malice guys, this isn't bay 13. If I was trolling I'd have posted it there as that's where troll threads go.

Fwiw I like Lyon. As a fitzroy supporter growing up I have a fondness for him still. I ask the question I did in this thread because you guys have never won a flag and as a conditioned supporter of the underdog (again, fitzroy) I'd like to see you win one, but it seems to me that if I typed the results of The last couple of years into a linest formula in excel, while the constant would be positive the slope would be negative.

Ignoring the original post then, it's not a bad discussion point....Lyon will come under scrutiny as will about 14 other coaches who don't lift the cup.

Ignore D and talk about Rossco?

If you are trolling, it is a high quality troll and I can appreciate that too.

Don't piss Salim off though, I need him in my BF life more than I need you.

I have already stated in the autopsy thread that Lyon had a poor final series, but the recipe you are suggesting is one for chaos on the board, every opposition poster can come in and post a thread questioning aspects of our team? No thanks.

If it's a relative topic - there is no rule against an opposition supporter starting a thread.

This is the board for talking Freo, not a Freo only board. If you want to make this a rule, there is a suggestions thread up the top of our board - but he is breaking no current rules.

I start the odd thread on opposition boards - I don't do it to troll, and as long as it is relevant...fair bump play on.

Don't mix the Bay 13 persona with the poster, they are sometimes different beasts.

But he is doing it to troll, and so will many others. I never said anything about rules, I said it was inappropriate IMO and a recipe for chaos. Obviously he's a mate of yours and good on you defending him, but it's a shit thread. So is the DP one started by the Port fan.

Yeah I know you've drafted players, not questioning that, it's more their development that concerns me.
Sounds like you already have an opinion and instead of putting together an opinion which is substantiated you are asking a question. Rgauci gave you information about the development. Did you disagree with it? What exactly do you think Lyon has "sold"? We have barely traded any draft picks and have drafted well for the future list issues we may face.

IMO we should try to have the best coach available. Pretty sure we have that now.

He's not a mate, I just enjoy reading his posts on a couple of other boards. I guess because I post on other boards, I know if I'm being serious - you cop a few auto posts saying it is a troll.

You guys are reading a lot between the lines to say this is a troll, it may be a shit thread and from my post - you can see I don't agree with him....however debate it don't hate it is normally my view.

Anyway - don't want to get into it with a fellow Freo poster - C'est la vie

Edit - stop liking my post Duritz ...it ain't helping my argument :drunk:

Pav kicked four against Sydney (not that you'd notice with all the Buddy shit that was going on) and Balla's didn't kick any if I recall. so it depends on the week. Would like to have both. Having Tabs going down early didn't help Pav as we then didn't have a 2nd tall. People are upset that he missed two set shots but one was 40/60 chance at best and all the other missed shots by the other players made his kicks virtually a must. Which is a big ask.

Its a confrontational thread to get a bite on Ross' s so called inability to produce and play youth
Duritz is a serial culprit of perpetuating the myth.
I'm just tired of the never ending Ross is ruining our youth threads and starting one on our board after such a loss is unforgivable.

I'll grow a mo and we can do a myth busters YouTube vid if you like?

And if he wants to make that argument then put up the stats that substantiate the opinion.

I was pretty impressed with how far from the traditional Lyon game plan he was prepared to go this season in search of solutions to weaknesses in our list. Much more corridor play evident in the Finals. Faster transition. Good stuff.
