He'll build the game style around the list.

People can relax around the whole boring game plan stuff. I think he'll do fantastic things for Freo this year and wouldn't be surprised one bit if he took your mob into the top 4!

EDIT: someone beat me to it

This is absolutely ****ing ruthless.

I've never ever seen anything like this since I've been watching football.

Part of me feels bad for Harv's, I liked him as a coach and wanted him to have another season.

On the other hand, this is just pure clinical decisiveness, which I really do respect, and is a sign of a well run club.

Not sure its a sign of a well run club but it is the sign of a club completely focussed on success. +2

I agree he has been a bit boring at the Saints but **** could we beat them? I just want hard winning footy and he will give us that.

OK, be a smart arse.

Did they win any? No, they didn't.

He recruited Peake for ****'s sake, couldn't hang on to a true champion in Luke Ball and puts up with the lack of leadership shown by Reiwoldt.

I suppose when we make the 8 next year you'll be ecstatic, even though it would have happened under Harvey anyway.

In another year Harvey could have proved his worth, or otherwise, and Malthouse would have been available for 2013. Now we're going to be locked into a quickie knee-jerk deal.

And now he is playing the best football of his career. Funny that.

Great day for Freo.

Would be preferred if he concentrated on coaching and leave the recruiting to Lloyd and co who have done a great job in recent years.

How can it be the sign of a well run club to not go through a proper selection process?

Its ruthless, sure, and clinically decisive, but then so would trading out Pav or Sandilands for advantage and loyalty be ****ed. Would that be the sign of a well run club to you?

Holy crap, brilliantly ruthless decision. I'm so excited for next year, Ross Lyon is an amazing fit. We are going to be the best clearance team in the league next year. Clearance structures have always been one of his strengths and he's never had any ruckman close to as dominant as Sandilands.

Feel bad for Harves, he'll find another job though.

Make no mistake, this is the best thing to ever happen to this club.

We've never had a coach that that commands respect from the players and the league in general, never had a tactically brilliant one and never one who knows what it takes to get a team up to play in grand finals.

Can anyone imagine Lyon doing ridiculous things like giving in to/allowing Pavlich to play in the midfield?

This is exactly what fremantle need, will change the whole culture of this club, will be the making of fremantle as a continuously successful team on and off the field.

Hard luck to Harvs, he's been hard done by, and has definitely played his part in beginning to turn the club around. But excellent work by Rosich to make the hard decision which I believe will ultimately pay off.

I hate watching the saints play. BOOOORRRRING!!!!
I bet the saints supporters are relieved he's gone.

Wouldn't bet too much on that. I personally am shocked and, as Ross would say, disappointed. No idea where this came from, Freo have themselves a great coach, say what you want about his style, and it may not take place immediately, but Freo will have a disciplined side with one of the best tacticians in charge.

Can't believe it at all. No idea what to think

You obviously didn't watch him crumble in the big games. He had a temporary increase in output as anybody would with a change in clubs, then reverted to the Peake we all know.

Missed a premiership by a point.

Close enough is still good enough for you is it dom?

I wasn't the biggest fan of Lyon at the Saints. But just because he played a purely defensive game over there, doesn't mean he will bring it over here. It's a matter of building a game plan and style around the players you have, and our list is very different to that of St Kilda.

What we will get is players playing in the right positions. And that can only be a good thing.

I imagine Lyon will adapt his game plan to include a more attacking style, because you can't switch teams and not change. So, no negatives from me.

Well said Chris and exactly my thoughts. We have some talent on our team and he knows it.

While I'm not a fan from watching St Kilda, Lyon does strike me as very good tactically hence his smug face, he can change tactics during a break and turn the match. Exactly what we need.

I like the move although I feel very bad for Harvey. Maybe Pavlich will get that day in September on the MCG after all!

To be honest, Peake was a reason that the Saints got back into the finals this year.

Surely you're not serious. Do you even watch football?

Another thing that worries me about Lyon other than boring game style is.

Young player development????
Not many young players got opportunities or seemed to develop enough to push others out.
He basically got his results with the list that was handed to him.
Now ofcourse if he gets those results with our current list i will be happy but we are alot younger an theres still plenty of development needed.

Agree wholeheartedly with all of this

No accountability in this decision, nothing at all.

Rosich and Harris to piss off very soon I'd hope

Surprised to hear about the decision. Wonder how long it has been in the pipeline. Lyon didn't reinvent a list, he aqquired one. Riewoldt,Hayes,Montanga,Milne,Kosi,Goddard,Ball,Dal santo and on and on were all there before he arrived. So considering he had them in their peak years so to speak and all they have to show is a couple of runners up medals? He's lost pieces while at the club and apart from Mcevoy and a few others that list has gone backwards quickly. Thought Harvey did pretty good this year with all your injuries. Can't see why that didn't factor in. The style you guys played seemed to work.
