So which of our youngsters do you guys think are not progressing in their development as they should? Blakely, Weller, Darcy, Ryan, Tucker, Hughes, Cox and Langdon all seem to be developing very nicely to me.
Taberner. Only played 6 games this year when we're crying out for a key forward. Terrible development by Freo and Lyon.

Maybe his development was all about learning his craft in the seconds. Maybe he had faults that couldn't be rectified in the pressure cooker of the AFL. Maybe the learning curve in the WAFL will be the making of him as a player. Tabs was a low rookie pick with skill problems. Could that be the reason he has been playing seconds ?

If only he'd had another 45 games prior to this year to show his wares.
Those 45 games have clearly shown that he's our best key forward. Should have played all year, terrible development by Fremantle and Lyon.

Our best (only) key forward who was 23 at the beginning of the season has missed almost an entire year of AFL experience because we've gifted games to others.

I will not listen to Hagdorn, so if that means I don't hear Brad Hardie...bonus! I prefer listening to ABC radio on Saturday mornings - Mark Duffield talks a lot of sense, but I don't know how you Freo supporters would think of him, even though he says he's a supporter ;)
Yeah I like Duffield, gives pretty honest and direct assessments in his articles and radio gigs. Genuinely try's to give an objective informed opinion .Not even close to a sycophant journo like half the seven west media are to the eagles..cough dale miller cough jay Quartermaine etc . One of the best WA sports journos here... not that he has much competition tho

His articles on other sports and sports politics have been pretty good too . THis was particularly true on the articles he wrote late last year and earlier this year on that total self serving backslapping boys club of spoilt utter w$&nkers the WAFC ,posturing and grandstanding on there deal to move from subi and having to give up their rights ,as the other consortium took over the running of the new stadium were absolutely bang on.

Danyle has been below average for quite some time now but his last two games have been a special kind of putrid.
Surely if he leaves for another club we wouldn't have to pay him out.
Danyle Pearce is contracted for another year. Bit Like the Michael Johnson situation last year. Had Johnson been uncontracted last year, Freo would of forced him to retire. Had Danyle pearce been out of contract this year, e would of been out the door too.

Describing Robert Eddy as "pretty average" is being far too kind. He was beyond ****. For all the flack you've given Ross' role players (Dawson, Suban etc) you can at least understand what they offered. What Eddy offered I don't think anyone outside of Ross will ever know. Surely one of the worst players ever to step onto a football field.
No disrespect to your mob. Your team had Rowan Jones in 2006. I always questioned his kicking. Matt Spangher played in the 2014 flag with the hawks too.

So you think he'd trash his reputation to spite Fremantle Football Club? Do you know Ross Lyon personally or this just some opinion you've formed from afar?

And the Pies were a very ordinary team and yet they won the premiership? You really know your footy.
Weird thing was the Magpies 2010 side was one of the youngest sides ever. Travis Cloke kicked 38 goals and 40 behinds. he hit his peak in 2011-13

Says a lot of our forward line when we start hailing Taberner as our best forward. It is that bad now.

Taberner is like the Labor Party. You don't realise how bad they are until you give them another go only to replace them at the next opportunity.

Tabs was the best forward for us on Saturday without a doubt.

I think if you amend the Labor Party to Kevin Rudd, you might have a winner with that comparison :(

6PR and Hardie can get bagged as much as you like but where there is smoke there is fire. Why would lyon want to jump ship given he still has 3 yrs on a $1M+ contract? Because he's a finisher coach not a development coach. Colon wood are ripe for a coach like lyon. Besides he may wish to get back home to Melb sooner rather than later due to family reasons
Don't take everything Hardie says as gospel. He did say that Hooker coming to Freo was a formality last year and told me personally that Hogan coming across was a done deal. Neither of them eventuated.

I think he likes to think he knows more than he does. His sources are probably 3 or 4 times removed and by the time it gets to him it's a case of purple, monkey, dishwasher.

I didn't watch the game but heard much of it on radio. Sounds as if Dame Edna Everidge would have been in our best if she had played for us on the w/e. Lets face it, nothing Taberner did was outstanding. It's just that it wasn't as shit as the rest.

You think Rudd was bad. Wait until Shorten has a crack. And no I am no Liberal diehard.

The inanimate carbon rod would've been in our best....at least it would have turned up to the game.

As for Taberner, he struggled with his kicking on goal and could've had 3-4 goals with a bit more composure. That said, he at least tried until he got put into the backline (why, god only knows).

As for Shorten, yeah, I'm not looking forward to that at all.

We've debuted 7 blokes this year. You don't like the way that Weller, Tucker, Logue, Darcy, Ryan, Hughes, Blakely and Cox are developing? What would you like them to show that they haven't shown so far?

Other than Nyhuis for Pearce, most people acknowledge that there weren't any other selection options for the weekend. And maybe there are times when a game at Peel is better for a player's development than a game in the seniors.

If you don't think Ross is into developing players, then you obviously don't watch our training sessions.
1st off I live in South Australia. So its difficult for me to watch the training sessions. Of All the rookies that have impressed me so far is Sean Darcy. I seriously thought it was going to take us 3-4 years to find a Sandilands replacement. Considering with most ruckmen, some take a good 3-5 years of development and even then its not certain they will be good. Logue has talent but I still don't know if defence is a good position for him. I want him to have a game up forward or in the middle. He could be anything. Take away the game last week but Ryan got plenty of the ball off the back flank, He reminded me if Ibbotson 5 years ago when he got plenty of marks in the defensive 50.

I am happy with Ross Lyons youf policy so far. Its not like the days of just giving everyone a debut game in the final round of the season. Forward line still needs to be fixed. But we need that tall forward. I cant see us find that elusive 50-60 goal a season key forward yet. We need to find that 200cm tall that can kick 30 goals a season. I am hoping Tabs, Apeness or Strnadica fits that spot.

We have given debuts to 7 guys and all of them have been given at least 3-5 games each to see what they can do.

Have you guys forget Abbott already? Or the spineless Turnbull, who has had to forget everything he used to believe in just to apease the boys in the backrow.

Not quite sure what you mean by this. Are you saying he was as bad as Eddy?

Every single Eagles fan questioned Rowan Jones' kicking (actually there wasn't really a question about it, it was terrible.) I remember when he marked in the goal square against Adelaide in the preliminary final. A goal would have sealed the win. No Eagles fan was confident he'd kick it. In that sense he didn't let us down. :$ Thankfully we managed to hang on for the win.

Despite his kicking ability (or lack of) he still contributed to the team with his blocking and 1%ers. Will always have a soft spot for him after his effort late in the GF which potentially saved us the game. One of the poorer members of the side but not useless. Eddy on the other hand really was useless. Jones was no star but if you're comparing him to Eddy your being very harsh on Jones. Not sure where Spangher comes in.

The best key forward at Freo would be like the smartest guy in the remedial maths class, someone has to get the title but that doesn't make the person to a high standard.

Plenty of guys have been too good for wafl but not up to AFL, see Fewster, Liam Jones (until he became a back), Jesse White. Tabs is one of them, he will play 2-3 games a season at best that leaves you thinking "what if he did that every week?".

Hes a young KPP who has improved every year hea been on our list. Currently #1 in the afl fir contested marks per game. Playing guys like Ballantyne ahead of him as we have been is criminally stupid.

Gillard was fine, Abbott was the shit can.
Comparing who is better out of Gillard, Abbott, Rudd, Turnball et al is like comparing who is better out of Kersten, McCarthy, Tabener. Fact is we haven't had a decent big forward since Pav, I mean decent PM since Howard (and again I am not a Liberal voter).

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley is questioning Brownlow Medallist Brad Hardie’s right to keep an AFL media credential after claiming Fremantle coach Ross Lyon wanted the potentially vacant Magpies job.

Buckley did not answer if he would seek out Lyon for clarification on the unsubstantiated Perth radio story that was met with a strongly worded statement of ridicule from both the Fremantle Football Club and Lyon on Sunday.

Would certainly send a message re ex-player commentators fabricating bullshit - particularly those who like to carry over long-term grudges into their work.
Now if we could shut Hackdorn up.

Two birds, one stone.
