This policy works because it gives fringe players, who would no normally be getting a game at all, a chance to taste international cricket and learn what areas of their games they need to improve on to be a consistent performer at that level.
I can't agree with that at all. Australia's success is because it has bred by far the best crop of players in the world. In fact the rotation policy may be endangering future success as older players that would have given way to younger ones are kept in the pool. From being a fantastic all rounder Steve Waugh is kept in the pool as a ageing, slow and average batsman. The depth of class has allowed Brett Lee to play games he had no right to be in. I hope he does become a future Lillee but if he doesn't then what a waste. Rotation is all about kang cricket and kids, not adults. There is no doubt in my mind that the best team available should be picked. And what of the player who knows he is one of the best 11 but is rotated out. Is he not cheated of a cap that is rightfully his with a lesser player having it instead of him. eg, Bevan dropped for the last game.......probably the best one day batsman in the world and can bowl too.
