Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Young Rottnest Razorbacks coack Peterss has today faced a packed media connference at Rottnest Island Community centre and has hinted at his ideas for the off-season as his side gears up for a more serious tilt at the premiership after bowing out early on in this years finals in his first attempt as coach.

"When i took over i knew there were some players on the list that didnt really instill me with confidence but some of them have showed me that they are worthy of a new contract whilst others who are uncontracted didnt impress me and are a chance to be shown the door, We have alot of uncontracted players who are out of contract and there are some players who we also need to re-sign as they are key players to our side so obviously we need to create soem cap space soemwhere so a fair few of these unctontracted players are more then likely to be on the way out"

""We are focusing on keeping our core group of players together and brining in some young fresh talent as we will be continuing with selecting young players at both the national and pre-season draft and throughout the draft period...Unless of course a gun more experienced player is a chance to come our way"

"I was happy with how this season ended up as we made the finals and that was my initial aim but even then it was more a wish but to the boys credit they made it a reality. I am unsure at present as to what type of players i will be looking to trade for in the trade period but i will be talking it over with some of the board room staff within the next few days as we lay out our plans for the 2009 season and beyond."

"This said we are always interested in potential early trade talks/agreements so if there are any clubs who are wanting to start to put their feelers out in terms of trade talks then feel free to contact the club via PM and we will see what we can come up with"

Razorbacks chasing Ray and Raines

Rottnest Razorbacks coach Peterss has today told the media they he will be actively persuing youngsters Farren Ray and Andrew Raines from the Hawks in the hope to bring them to the WA based club next season.

Peterss had this to say.

"Id love these two at the club...With myself employing a mainly youth policy since i took over from this side both Farren and Andrew would be great additions to the Rottnest side for next season and beyond. Farren is a WA lad and has approached me about him possibly wanting to return home so im jumping at the chance to try bring him home. He is a quality player who perhaps needs a change of club to bring out the bbst in him again and im sure we will see that if we can get him home."

"Andrew was injured this season but i rate him highly and the fact he can play as a small defender or in the midfield would make him a handy addition. Hes a good kid and would fit in well with all the other young players we have around the club"

Rottnest welcome Raines and Ray

Rottnest coach peterss has confirmed today that a trade has taken place in what has seen youngsters Farren Ray and Andrew Raines join the club on a 2 year and 3 year deal respectively whilst Jason Gram and Ryan Hargrave were that rottnest players involved in the trade.

Peterss had this to say "Im delighted with this trade, Andrew is a small defender who can also play in the midfield, He is a good kid and he is happy to be here amongst many other youngster at the club."

"Farrem wanted a move home and i was happy to welcome him back, He's been down on form but we believe as a side that a move back home was in Farren's best interests and we are sure he will regain that potential that saw him be a former #4 draft pick"

"Id like to thank both Jason and Ryan for their services to this club and i wish them all the best at their new side"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Another day, Another trade

Rottnest tonight completed their 2nd trade of the trade period bringing into the club gun onballer Brock McLean on a 4 year deal and young forward/ruckman Kurt Tippett. Whilst KP player Luke McPharlin and goalsneak Alwyn Davey moved to Collingwood. The final part of the trade was collingwood trading their 2nd round pick in return for the Razorbacks 3rd round pick.

Head coach peterss had this to say "I am delighted with this trade...I meet with the other coaches today and we had a target to get another young quality ball winning midfielder to the club and in McLean we now have this. We know he is a quality player and he's already earmarked for a possible leadership role this season"

"In Tippett we have a young key forward/ruckman who is still developing but we have high hopes for him being a quality player at this club for many years to come"

"We wish Luke and Alwyn all the best at their new club"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Rottnest welcome Winderlich

Rottnest coach Peterss can today confirm a trade has taken place with the Western Vultures in a move that sees midfielder/defender Jason Winderlich and Pick 25 come to the club whilst Clinton Young and Jonothan Griffin have moved to a new home in the vultures.

Peterss had this to say "We welcome Jason to the club....Hes known for his injuries but we know if hes fit and firing hes a quality youngster and with our good medical team there for him im sure we can get him on the park alot this season. We are happy with Pick 25 aswell as thats now 3 picks inside the top 25 in what is expected to be a strong draft"

"We rated Clinton highly but being out of contract we had alot of offers for him and we know with some player re-signings to come we might not of been able to fit him under the cap so unfortunately we traded him. With Jonothan we lose a young up and coming ruckman who was seeking a move to a club in search of more game time as he knew being stuck behind the premier ruckman in Dean Cox that he wouldnt be playing much. We wish both of these players all the best for their future career at the Vultures"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Welcome Morton and first rounder

Rottnest razorbacks coach Peterss tonight has welcome young gun Jarryd Morton to the club in what is believed to be a 3 year deal. Also coming to the club is national draft pick 8. Leaving the club is young gun Travis Boak.

Peterss had this to say "We didnt really want to trade Travis but we said we would definately consider it if we could get a top 10 pick for him. At the end of the day we ended up with Pick 8 so we can use this to get a direct replacement for Boak and we also end up with another youngster in Jarryd Morton who showed this season he has what it takes to be a quality player at this level."

"We wish Travis all the best at his new club and welcome Jarryd here with open arms"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Rottnest welcome S. Burger

Rottnest tonight made yet another trade in what is turning out to be a very active trading period for the Razorbacks.

They have tonight traded KPP Drew Petrie in exchange for Shaun Burgoyne who has signed a 3 year deal.

Peterss had this to say "We wish Drew all the best and werent goign to trade him but when a quality midfielder like Burgoyne was offered we jumped at it. We are now a KP defender short but i have faith in our trading team to bring us in a KP defender to replace Drew. Shaun is a quality player and will thrive in our midfield and he is a welcome addition to our side"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Rotto welcome Brown Dog

Rottnest continued their active trade period announcing that young KP player Mitchell Brown has joined the club in exchange for Pick 28.

Peterss is said to be delighted with this traid and had this to say.

"We rate Mitch highly and although he is coming off a Knee Reco we have no doubt that he will bounce back and become a quality player for us for many years to come hence why we gave him a 5 year contract. He can play as a key forward or a key back and we look forward to developing him into a gun player"

Cox goes, Griff comes back, Welcome Waite

Rottnest can tonight confirm that they have found a trade for Dean Cox who earlier today told the club he wanted a move so he can be closer to his sick Aunty.

The trade see's Dean Cox head to the Western Vultures along with pick 33 whilst coming to the Razorbacks is Jarrad Waite which should help fix their KP problem along with Jonothan Griffin who ironically returns to the club after being initially traded to the Vultures as he didnt want to be back up behind Cox. Also coming to the Razorback is pick 6 in the national draft.

Peterss said "We thank Dean for his many years of service to this club and we have no hard feeling about him wanting to leave we understand that family comes first and in this case it was vital that Dean was traded so he can be closer to hsi sick Aunt. We welcome back young Ruckman Jon Griffin who we are delighted to have back and now that Coxxy is out of the picture we can start developing Jon into a quality ruckman, he has learnt alot under Dean this season so he will be better off for it. In Waite we have a quality key position player who can play both ends of the grounds and we rate him hihgly. Also getting another top ten pick in the draft taking us to a total of 3 picks inside the top ten shows we are really looking towards building a team full of youngsters with a few experienced players for a side that will dominate in a year or two after the players develop"

Reimers signs on for 5 years

Rottnest coach Peterss can this afternoon confirm that young gun Kyle Reimers has officially re-signed on the dotted line after bidding for the uncontracted superstar expired just moments ago.

Peterss had this to say "I am absolutely delighted with the Reimers re-signing. Our initial re-signing offer for Kyle was increased by an opposition club and this then sparked alot of interest in the youngster. We were always going to match the offers for him as he is that highly rated at this club. I can also confirm he has a 5 year contract after the bidding closed so thats how logn we have him for. Kyle will be a key player for us this season and we expect his impressive form from this season to carry over to next season as he continues to grow a a player. We are very very happy he is staying"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Schofield signs on the dotted line

Rottnest can tonight confirm that young defender Will Schofield has re-signed with the club is what is believed to be a 4 year deal.

Peterss said "Very happy that the bidding for Will has ended and that we had the succesfull bid on him. We love the way Schoey goes about his business and has has a big tank on him that we hope to continue to develop him as a defender and then eventually move him into the midfield once he has a bit more experience. He is a good kid and he loves playing here with the rest of the young lads we have at this club and we are delighted to retain him and have him here for a few more years."

Rottnest CEO Mustapha Rumancola this morning announced that the clubs sponsors for the 2009 season are finalised.

The secondary sponsors are: Harvey Fresh and www.westernaustralia.com

And the other sponsors are: 3 Mobile, Notre Dame University (Fremantle Campus), Houghton Wineries and Rottnest Island Cruises

Rumancola spoke to the media after the announcment and had this to say "We are delighted to get the majority of our sponsors for the new season out of the way so early. We welcome Bankwest and QBE Insurance as major sponsors and hope to have them on board for many years to come. Westernaustralia.com has come back on board this season as has Harvery Fresh and they are commited for a long term which is great. We also welcome our other new sponsors in 3 mobile, Notre Dame University and Houghton Wineries whilst once again thank Rottnest Island Crusies for staying on board."

Get your Betts on Rottnest

Rottnest Razorbacks can tonight confirm that a trade has been struck with the North Melbourne Saints in a trade that see's Brett Ebert move to the Saints and Eddie Betts becoming a Razorback.

Peterss was unavailable to comment but a clubs spokesman said "We like Ebert as a player but this season he seemed to have an attitude problem at training and this seemed to affect him on the field and his input was well below what we expected of him in 2008. We wish him all the best at the Saints and welcome young small forward Eddie Betts to the club after he approached our coaching staff about a trade West as he liked the young set-up we have at the club and we were happy to take him. He has a good goal sense and we are expecting him to improve the at the Razorbacks over the next few seasons"

It is believed Bett's contract is a 3 year deal.

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Leadership Team for '09 Announced

Rottnest Raozrbacks can today announce that the leadership team for the upcoming 2009 season has been finalised.

Leading the side again in 2009 is Matthew Pavlich, whilst Brad Sewell and Shaun Burgoyne have been appointed as his deputies. Nathan Van Berlo has been appointed as the Young player mentor and in other news former club stalwart Robert Harvey has signed on as Football Operations manager.

After the announcment the West Australian spoke to coach Peterss aswell as each player in the leadership team. This is what they had to say.

Peterss: "We kept Pavlich as our captain for this season as he was such a fantastic leader for us last season and is a definate match winner on the field and a great public speaker off the field. As we have such a young side this season it was vital we had a captain who is experienced and can lead the younger players. In Sewell and Burgoyne we have two players who are quality players who can more then easily step into the captaincy role should Matthew miss a game or two throughout the season. They along with Matthre are key players in our side this season and they have been rewarded with a leadership position. Nathan Van Berlo is a quality youngster who had a great season last season and with him beign the young player mentor we believe he can show the young brigade the way forward and help them develop into quality players like himself. We are delighted to have Harvey on board as football operations manager and he is going to be responsible for managing our list for years to come. He knows the game inside out and we are glad he has stuck by the club he served so greatly as a player."

Matthew Pavlich: "I am delighted to be leading the side again in 2009, We have a great list full of youngsters and to me leading them is an honour. We are definately aiming to repeat last seasons success of making the finals as quite simply youngsters playing in big games such as finals is a great learning curve and development tool for them. I also would like to wish both Brad and Shaun all the best as my deputies and Nathan all the best in his young player mentoring role."

Shaun Burgoyne: "I have only been at the club for a couple of weeks and to already be named in part of the leadership team is a grat honour for myself. Matthew was always #1 choice amongst the players for captain this coming season. Brad and myself will be working together with Matthew to ensure we reach or aim this season of playing finals football"

Brad Sewell: "Well i have been here for a few years now and ive always considered myself a leader on the field and to be rewarded with a joint vice captaincy role at this great club is a massive honour. We have a list full of quality youngsters combined with some more senior players like myself and i have no doubt in my mind that we will play finals this season"

Nathan Van Berlo: "I am very pleased to be appointed as a mentor for the young brigade of players we have at this club, I have been through all the hard yards to get to where i am today and i hope to teach the youngsters a thing or two and i will always be there for them to offer advice should they need it"

Robert Harvey: "I love this club to death and when i was approached by peterss to become football operations and list management officer i jumped at it. The list Peterss has but together so far this season is quality and i look forward to workiing together with peterss and the rest of the match day staff to continue to build this side into a premiership winning side but at the same time maintaining our youth focus at the club"

Dowler flies west

Rottnest have continued to be active during the trade period with young key position forward Beau Dowler signing on with the club for 3 years whilst Chris A. Johnson has left the club and has joined Coburg as the other half of the trade.

Peterss had this to say at tonight press conference: "We were very very dissapointed to loss Johnno but as you all know he was out of contract and therefore was on the open market in terms of bidding and we knew he would attract alot of interest so therefore it was in our best interests to trade him to a new club and atleast get something in return instead of losing him to a high bid that we would have possibly been unprepared to match. We do however gain the services of former #6 draft pick Beau Dowler who is very highly rated as a key forward prospect and we believe having him develop further under one of the best in the business in Pavlich that he can become a star for the future and of course step up as a replacement for this season up forward if a tall goes down."

"We wish CJ all the best at Coburg.

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Harrow Thunderbolt joins Rottnest

Rottnest can today confirm that young defender/midfielder Tim Houlihan has joined the club after a trade that saw Pick 34 also heading Rottnest's way whilst Pick 25 was the other half of the trade that Rottnest had to give up.

Nicknamed the Harrow Thunderbolt as a junior for his long distance running abilities in what saw him win the 2005 national 1500m and 3000m events in personal best times. It is believed Rottnest chased him as they rate his running abilities and fitness highly and wanted him to join the rest of the youngsters at the club. Noone was available to comment on the trade but it is believed the two for one deal was because Rottnest require a few extra list fillers before the pre-season draft so they dont have to use so many picks.

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

Razorbacks set themselves up for the cream of the crop in the draft.

Rottnest have tonight continued to take a stranglehold on the first round of the national draft after trading Nathan Van Berlo for pick #5 in this years draft which now leaves Peterss side with 4 picks inside the top 10 (5,6,8 and 9)

Peterss had this to say "We really really rate NVB and didnt want to trade him but when an offer came our way for pick 5 in the draft we jumped at it as we knew we already had 3 picks in the top 10 and having a fourth in such a strong draft like the one coming up sets us up for the long term. We have our eyes on some guns in the draft and the only way to get them is to trade big name players for high picks and that is what we have done so far."

"We wish NVB all the best at Collingwood and thank him for his time at thbe club and his very short strint as young player mentor...This position will now be taken up by Brock McLean"

Re: Razorbacks off-season rumours and news.

McKinley and Davey sign on

Forward Ben McKinley and Aaron Davey have re-signed with the club after bidding for the two uncontracted stars ended tonight.

it is believed that McKinley has signed on for 4 years whilst Davey has signed a 3 year contract.

Peterss had this to say "We are absoutely stoked to keep these two players at our club. Benny Mac was a revelation for us this season after receiving him from a trade midway through the season. He has a very bright future ahead of him and we believe he has the potential to kick bags of goals next season. Aaron gives us a player who can play as a small in the forward line or on a forward flank and we rate him as a player. We are very excited to retain these two"

In other news Rottnest have announced that both picks 33 and 34 are up for trade in a two for one deal.
