Picked up a copy late last week, and have been getting through it pretty well since. It's your stock standard level of detail, but still some fun little anecdotes in there.

He goes into a bit of detail about the changes at the club circa 2016-2018, noting a big change in culture, and turnover of players. Details Lewis is still frosty with how things ended, Burton didn't really want to leave, and clarko was very transparent about players and their future.

Would recommend picking up a copy though, got mine for 24 bucks from Big W which is about the cheapest.

I bought the book as a tribute to Rough, I've bought them all over the years, understanding there was going to be a fair bit dedicated to his ordeal with cancer.

I did feel though, that he tended to breeze past the premierships. He went into great detail about his junior sports, etc, then hopped into the draft, then the 2008 flag, then 2013, 2014, 2015 bang, bang, bang.

I would have liked him to go into a little more detail about the build up and the matches. I think we learned more about who was buying the Maccas for the Sunday morning party at his place :)

PS I'm still annoyed we gave up Burton.

Pretty much agree with all of that .

Thought it was a good read but would have loved more info on the GFs .

Has a good career in the media if he wants it down the track too . Sounds like he is more interested in list management.

Yeah i agree, he did seem to gloss over the glory days.

Another thing that stood out to me was his relationship with Buddy. Always presumed Lewis, Rough and Bud were the three amigos, but very little mention was made.

Yep Burton seemed to be the beginning of building the new club post 2016, then suddenly things changed.

It was about what I expected (with the emphasis on his battle with cancer, and some different perspectives from some of the most important people in his life), so I wasn't disappointed.

In any case, the glory days have been covered quite extensively in other books.

I'm now going through Dan Eddy's book on Peter Crimmins, so there is plenty of Hawthorn related stuff to get through while the club is enduring its current rough trot (no pun intended).

Yep agree regarding the roughy book. Been reading the crimmins book over the weekend. Doesn’t paint doc Ferguson in a good light but a different era in those days I guess

I haven't read the Crimmins book yet, but I will. Care to expound on Dr. Ferguson?
Crimmo’s wife fair to say was not happy with the lack of treatment he received from Dr Ferguson. Having an injection every week to that part of the body and not recommending him see a specialist. A few of the past players quoted in the book used to joke about Dr Ferguson’s stitching skills for example

I'm guessing he relegated the threepeat to one chapter just because it's already so well documented in other books.

I was amazed by just how bad his cancer treatment knocked him about. Like we knew it was pretty bad and how it effected his feet, but hearing it in such detail really drove home how bad it got for him. Truly amazing that he could come back so quickly to play AFL footy - and a full season at that.

Returning to the club after that must have felt like waking up from a bad dream and finding many years had passed with how much of the team changed between his last game in the 2015 GF and his return in 2017.

Love him.

I'd like to give a shout out to Tony Wilson's '1989: The Great Grand Final'. A breezy read to be sure but some nice detail and great anecdotes on a great game. Re-watched the first quarter on DVD today - electric footy!

I did the same read the book and watched the corresponding quarters of the game. The attention to detail is brilliant.
