I started this thread on the Tigers board - not really appreciated as I posted it straight after their towelling by the Doggies. So I thought I would try again here.

I definately think Bucky & co have made the correct decision in taking Roughy before Tambling. I know its early days in their development but Tambling showed nothing in tonights game and appears to be a front runner. Its a harsh call but there is no way he will have the impact of a high draft pick and will be over shadowed by Roughy. What do you think?

I'd say your timing could leave a bit to be desired and also "mod hat on" leaves it open for 'you trolled our board/we'll troll yours' stuff. So consider yourself 'tut-tutted'. :p

Re the actual head to head. Looking very much an inspired selection to take Roughie but then again, Griffen played a blinder tonight so?...

They are all still kids. Tambling is so damn slight though I do admit I question if he's got the body for the game or more to the point, if he'll ever have the body for the game.

Just happy that Roughie looks a player in the making. There isn't a club out there without a draft stuff up somewhere in their history though. Just the nature of the game/draft.

Re:

The thing with these Roughead v Tambling v Griffen threads is,

we were in desperate need for KP Players.

Roughead suited our need from the draft. So we picked him.

I think we were always going to go for the best KP availiable to us.
If Roughy was a midfielder, then we would have a debatable disussion.

If Roughead were getting limited time under a system where he feared getting sat for any mistake and Tambling were freed from some of that pressure by working for a coach that allowed him to make mistakes and get better without such extreme scrutiny, this comparison might be swung round almost 180º.

This would be better saved for round one 2008. If Tambling withstands the bite of injury, he might truly be the bling by then. And Roughead could be anything by that time as well!

Where was Wells at round one his second year in? Where was he against Power this week? Huge difference IMO. Granted Wells had shown more by this point with the Roos but not that much more and he'd mostly stayed away from injury one year in. But then Wells wasn't playing for a coach whose ego is measured in kilos and a fan base drooling for instant success.

I find it strange that a Hawthorn supporter would start this thread when the hawks picked Roughead over Griffen. A massive massive blunder. Yes, roughead is an okay footballer who is wasted away at full forward, but Griffen's class is stamped on the game for the entire match.

They are all still kids, pretty silly saying Griffen is so much better blah blah.

No doubt Roughead will be a star, has shown a lot, wasted at full forward what are you on mate seriously? We need a forward and you think he's wasted, get a clue.

Tambling isn't anything yet but he may be, give him time, but I'm glad we got Lewis instead of him, more grunt. Lewis v Tambling maybe the new topic.

With picks 2 and 5 the Hawks had to get at least one Victorian at the top of the draft. Seeing your top two picks from 2004 draft headed off to Adelaide or Perth two years into a rebuilding process would have been a bigger blunder and one the Hawks could not afford! Roughead was the correct choice at pick 2. Time will tell if it was a good pick, but it was the correct pick IMO.
