No no no. Hawthorn are still a chance at finals and if we win in Perth round 23 percentage could be the tie-breaker for eighth. A farewell for Rough would be a wonderful event but it simply can't happen unless he is the best option for a recall.

This whole "He doesn't want one" is rubbish.
He's just living the dream at Box Hill is he?
The fact Clarko is mumbling on about this, means he'll be coerced into saying no thanks.

If he doesn't play, then it's because he's been guilted into letting someone else play, not that he doesn't want it.

If we can't beat Gold Coast with Roughy (who will play out of his skin if it's his final game) then we don't deserve to play finals anyway.

If he wants it, give it to him.
Agreed. Would be a nice end to the year of footy in Melbs.

Lewie looked like he got some knocks too, so give him a rest.

In recent history, Hodge is the only celebrated "farewell game" we had, let's not forget other club champions Mitchell, Lewis, Rioli, Gibson have all retired with ZERO fanfare. It doesn't change what they did for the club or what the club did for them (4 premiership medallions)..

If Hawks are a realistic shot at making finals it would be crazy to bring Roughy in as he will just make his GC opponent look like a AA defender, and we'll be effectively playing 1 short.

There is a good case for both opinions, nobody knows what the final decision will be.
I think he plays, we're not winning the flag so what is the downside of honoring a club great?

Who gives a s**t about a 5% chance of finishing 8th?

Gibson didn't want the farewell game, so he just did the lap.

Mitchell, Lewis and Rioli didn't know it was the last games.

Poor examples.

Luke Hodge and John Barker, the only two players to get a farewell game during the Clarkson coaching reign

He hasn't even announced his retirement yet, lol.
I'm guessing he'll make that decision formal this week with a press conference, however.

If there are genuine injuries, I think he'll be swayed to play. If not, I think he'll play Box Hill Sat, and do a farewell lap on Sunday for the fans

Absolutely he plays. We’re not playing finals, I see no reason why he shouldn’t. So a kid like Lewis gets a rest and a week off. So what.. as a member and proud supporter i would be very disappointed if I didn’t get one last chance to see the big ruff in action.

Roughie should play.
The whole industry is getting so self-important and "professional" that they are forgetting what makes it all possible - the fans' loyalty.
Agree, footy is much too self-important these days. On a side note, saw something which disgusted me a few weeks ago, a couple of Essendon fans on twitter laying into Conor McKenna for missing their game against Gold Coast to attend his brother's funeral in Ireland.
