I think we would be too top heavy with Warnock, Garland and Rivers all in the backline. It may seem silly given we usually have Frawley, Garland and Rivers, but Frawley has the ability to run and create a lot more than Warnock.

I'd like to see us go with:

Bartram - Garland - MacDonald
Grimes - Rivers - Bail

This gives us two natural talls in Garland and Rivers, two medium-talls in Grimes and MacDonald and two smalls in Bartram and Bail (or another running option). The reason for this is because a lot of teams this season will focus on forward pressure (Collingwood/St Kilda style), so it is vital that we have guys that can run and break the zone from defence. We saw last night how we often struggled to break through Adelaide's zone, so imagine if we didn't have the run of a Bail or Bennell because someone like Warnock was taking their spot.

If we stick with Martin as our "mobile" back-up ruckman, he can also double up as a key defender should something go wrong (injury, mismatch, etc...)

IMO Davey should be playing half back - has so much dash, good kicking skills and is calm under pressure, we look a better team defensively with him there

Davey has never played half back. He plays off a wing/in the middle and loops around to the backline. He should continue that role and try to get more forward of the ball on occasions.. Actually having him line up in the backline would be a waste.

I think we are better off going in a little short in the backline to keep up extra run, unless Warnock can get some good NAB cup form under his belt. Martin can go back if we need an extra tall during a game. I really wanted to squeeze Jetta in but couldn't find the room. I think the pure midfielders in Jones and McKenzie will be important in rotations. Jetta now has runs on the board ahead of those two in preseason so far so lets see how he goes.

Pretty sure Davey played behind the ball for a whole season and won a best and fairest. whether he is named on the team sheet as a wing or a hb flanker, my point was that he should be playing around that half back line.

as important as it is to have good delivery into the forwardline, its MORE important to have it out of the backline, something we have struggled with in recent years. Davey provides that

Agreed that we need his delivery out of the backline, but you don't name him there he does it from a wing. If Davey actually lines up at half-back then any half decent coach gets his opponent to sit on the goal line & take him out of the play.

I'd like to see Davey/Bennell rotating between half forward & the wing-sweeper role. Those 2 combined with Grimes can hopefully improve our decision making out of the backline which needs major improvement.

How is Cale Morton going to get in to the side! Let alone Strauss, Maric, Bail, Gysberts, Tapscott, etc. I'm so excited at the depth we have now, as well as the talent in the 22. Huzzah!

Morton as a depth player, wow. Show a bit of form and he's easily in the 18. Can play midfield and KPF forward and back.

With the match on the same day as the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, I don't see a big crowd at this game.
I'd love to go, but the F1 is only in Australia once a year, so it gets preference.
