Sando said he'll tweak game plan so my thoughts are:

Tippett must play CHF/ruck he can't kick straight for goal so why have him directly in front. But Walker can when his confidence is up N.craig took alot of this away from Walker. Tex barely missed goals in SANFL before he debut and kicked fairly straight when he did debut. Add porps in pocket next to Tex to add more options.

Johncock is great at rebounding but at times his defensive side has flaws eg. when gets dragged back 1 on 1. So I think he should become HF or outside mid as he likes to run. He can do 100% attack from there and is the best kick we have or at least top 3. So why not have him kicking for goal or putting it into 50.

My idea for our tagger is Otten good defence abit slow but C.Ling manages to stop the best. Otten also has good height so being able to spoil or out mark opponent will be a feature too. Otten as a tagger would allow Johnston to slide in Ottens current role as 3rd tall down back.

Dangerfield from a few magic moments this year running from half back with blistering speed should be where he spends half his time with midfield being other half. Danger can be a butcher of the footy at times from set shots but on the run he barely misses a beat. He can still kick goals from backline as we've seen.

Players such as Vince, Douglas, Tambling, Knights and Smith will improve alot on last year if they have solid injury free pre-seasons. Other midfielders such as S.Thompson, Sloane, McKay and VB will shine providing others around them improve and take the pressure of them to be only mids that had good years. McKay had injury but when he played he did well.

Another Idea is instead of using McKernan as I think his not yet at AFL level but will be a gun once he is. I would maybe use L.Thompson as 3rd tall forward as he is quick and can play tall or small he could be a defensive forward to lock down on play making defenders but can also attack too.

So My team would look like this:

B: Jaensch Rutten Johnston
HB: Danger Talia Van Berlo
C: McKay Sloane Vince
HF: Johncock Tippett Knights
F: Porps Walker L.Thompson
Foll: Jacobs S.Thompson Douglas

Inter: Petrenko Otten Wright

Sub: Smith

Emer: Tambling Doughty McKernan

Could break into team with good form : Martin Henderson Riley Tambling Lynch Brown Reilly Callinan

Need more development: Jenkins Lyons Shaw Craig + new draft picks

Going going or gone already by Rd.1: Symes Sellar Young Cook

I'll wait until after the draft and de-listings to bother with this. VB in the middle though.

FF: Porplyzia Walker Johnston
HF: Knights Tippett Tambling
C: Dangerfield S.Thompson Smith
HB: Brown Talia Jaensch
FB: Otten Rutten Johncock
R: Jacobs Sloane Vince
Bench: VB Mackay Douglas
Sub: Wright

B: Johncock Rutten Petrenko
HB: Jaensch Talia Otten
C: McKay S.Thompson Vince
HF: Dangerfield McKernan Porplyzia
F: Tippett Walker Callinan
R: Jacobs van Berlo Sloane
I: Doughty Smith Wright (Knights)

Emergencies: Reilly Douglas L.Thompson Tambling etc.

I know its way to early for something like this, but our trade week has me thinking up some hypotheticals with our Round 1 team next year. Ignoring the obvious importance of a full preseason prep, how close is this to a good starting 22?

F - JOHNSTONE, WALKER, WRIGHT
HF - KNIGHTS, TIPPET, PORPLYZIA
C - MCKAY, DANGERFIELD, VAN BERLO
HB - DOUGHTY, TALIA, VINCE
FB - JOHNCOCK, RUTTEN, OTTEN
R - JACOBS, THOMPSON, SLOANE

INT - DOUGLAS, MCKERNAN, JAENSCH, PETRENKO
This is pretty darn close for mine. I'd like to get Tambling and Smith in there, but I'm not immediately sure who for.

Plus, I like to see a side named from the forwards down. That's the South Aussie way.

Here's my second shot at it. Barring injuries, I don't think vets like Reilly or Doughty will get many games, after being surpassed by some up and comers. There's a spot on the bench they could have if its "truely" necessary to have their presence on the field, but I'd like to see that spot be used to get some games into a kid - someone like Lyons, Shaw or one of our draftees.

F - PORPLYZIA, WALKER, PETRENKO
HF - KNIGHTS, TIPPETT, SLOANE
C - MCKAY, OTTEN, VAN BERLO
HB - JAENSCH, TALIA, VINCE
FB - JOHNCOCK, RUTTEN, JOHNSTON
R - JACOBS, THOMPSON, DANGERFIELD

INT - SMITH, BROWN, LYONS/MARTIN/Pick 27 or a Veteran ^
SUB - HENDERSON

Key Moves from 11'
1. Otten to the midfield.
2. Sando has said Johnston was recruited as 'third tall', so my guess he'd free Otten up into the midfield.
3. Sloane did play there, but I'd like him to play there a bit more, and that is a roaming HF who pushes into the midfield. He'll still take his rotations in the centre bounces with Dangerfield etc. but he did this role to aplomb, especially against Geelong IIRC.
4. Henderson was a great sub, don't put him there every week, but in big games, he's our man.
5. Tippett the main 2nd ruck. McKernan gets lost when he isn't rucking and Tippett is in the team IMO, so better off keeping him in the 2's to develop as a 'key forward' in case Tippett leaves next year (he won't )
6. Dangerfield full time mid, with rest up forward.
7. Not using the sub to blood players. Give them a full game, they haven't waited their whole lives just to sit on a bench for 80 minutes before their name is called.

Brad Crouch can not play until 2013.

Then why was he in the draft?

trollface #2

He was in the mini-draft because he couldn't get to the national draft. Other wise he would be in next years national draft. So we traded picks to ensure we'd get a top 5 worthy pick next year, this year, and get development into him.

Then why was he in the draft?

trollface #2

He was in the mini draft and the mini draft was set up for 17 year olds. The idea was to give GWS an opportunity to trade and recruit senior players into their system but they found and used a loop hole to obtain more national draft picks.

Brad Crouch is only 17 year old and can not play in 2013.

I'm going to use the Geelong model that I think Sando will use to mould my side.

Rucks (Otto, west)- Jacobs, smack.
Contested ball winners (selwood, Corey, Kelly) - Thommo, Danger, Sloaney.
Stopper (ling) - VB
Attacking mids (chappy, bartel, varcoe) - Vince, knights, Mackay.
Key forwards (pod, tomahawk, Stevie j) - Tippo, Tex, Porp.
Rebounding defenders (enright, Jackie, wojak) - Stiffy, Special J, Tambling (for pace).
Key defenders (Taylor, scarlet, lonergan) - Truck, Talia, Otten.

Others - Smith, Pets, Radar, Doughty.

Which gives us :

Porp Tippo. Pets
Knights Tex. Vince
VB. Thommo Mackay
Jaensch. Talia. Tambling
Otten. Rutten. Johncock

Jacobs. Danger. Sloane

S. Mac. Smith. Dogga. Radar

B: Doughty Rutten Otten
HB: Johncock Talia Brown
C: Mackay Thompson Van Berlo
HF: Knights Tippett Johnston
F: Porplyzia Walker Wright
R: Jacobs Vince Dangerfield
IC: Douglas Sloane Petrenko
Sub: Smith

Poor old Brodie is sub again. Have some heart!

I want Brodie to play in the team, but I can't see him being in the best 21, based on my team.

It was very frustrating seeing him in the green jacket from a Dream Team perspective. Drove me mad.

Luke Brown could be a handy sub, but i really like his run from half back for us. Two versions of Stiffy Johncock will be great for us next year.

Nice approach :thumbsu:

According to channel ten , we will be playing North Melbourne in round one next year in Melbourne while port will play West coast at AAmi.

Shit, why not

B: Johncock - Rutten - Otten
HB: Jaensch - Talia - Doughty
C: Vince - Thompson - Mackay
HF: Knights - Johnston - van Berlo
F: Porplyzia - Tippett - Walker
1R: Jacobs, Dangerfield, Sloane
IC: McKernan, Douglas, Wright
S: Tambling

Ran out of spots on the field, and not exactly in a good way. Injury and form will have those smalls changing around a lot.

It would be impossible for him not to work along those sort of lines IMO, given where he's come from and their successes.

Nice work there, pext. :thumbsu:

Gotta say I don't have the same confidence in Porps body as the rest of you.

Amazing player, but one wrong tackle away from the end of his career.

i dont think anyone disagrees with you. at this stage though, he is on track for rd 1 and you have count him in based on what he brings to the side. The thread title is rd 1 2012, not season 2012.

praying the guy can get through the next couple years relatively unscathed. we are a far better side with him firing.

Porps Walker Pets
Knights Tipp Vince
VB Thomo Mckay
Jaensch Talia Doughty
Johncock Rutten Otten

Ruck: Jacobs Danger Sloane

Bench: Reilly, Douglas, Johnston, S/Brown

Thats my best guess as to what will actually happen.

Its tough because we have a lot of developing players that could start in the 22. Hopefully some of the lads on here can get to a few training sessions and write up some reports. Will give us a better idea of who's more likely to be selected.
