Get your eyes checked. Both will play and both will be in the 21 starters.

An interesting proposition. I can see the merit in this idea.:thumbsu:

Your JOKING me.
For the team to move forward this year reilly needs to be playing SANFL. Hes holding back blokes nearly 10 years younger who's output will be fairly similar if not better.

Reilly has been arguably one of our most impressive performers over PS so far .....will be the Doughty replacement when he retires this year.

Doughty ....just haven't seen enough of him this PS but i wouldn't have him as a lock in ....Jaensch is and do REALLY LIKE Shaw

Lewis Johnston has been completely under-whelming and is snowflakes chance in hell to play much this year

Knights wouldn't be in round 1 team either

Callinan is a lock-in

We have a newborn in Ricky Henderson .......probably the coaches early great achievements

Doughty will play in R1. May not be in the side by R22 - and probably won't be if we're not making the finals, but he'll definitely play in R1.

Jaensch will also play R1. No doubt at all.

Agree about Johnstone - he's been one of the few underwhelming players so far this pre-season. Given all the players competing for that 3rd tall role, he's easily last in line.

Not sure about Knights. Not sure at all..

Looks slow off the mark and reflex slow

Johnston ....we may have been conned by Sydney .....because so far there's no redeeming aspect of his game.

I was also hoping Aiden Riley would take another step .......a touch disappointing and may have to work into the season before he gets games

Pretty harsh on Johnstone, lol. He's barely played! Give him a chance.

Lynch has been fantastic. He's really smart and plays the angles well and has a really nice kick on him. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play R1.

Was considered one of the best kicks at Sydney while he was there so he definitely has something to offer in that regard. Considering he has only played about 1 game in the preseason (from split minutes) I think this is a little harsh and premature. Give him some time, if he stays healthy I think he has a chance to become a key piece for our backline (despite the fact that he should probably be playing forward).

Which of Reilly's games impressed you the most? Was it his 6 touches in a easy win against Carlton or his 2 touches playing as loose man v Port? Or perhaps his cheerleading on twitter V Bris :p

Agree on Knights, longshot for an early game. Needs to find his leg again. Without run and his long kicking he has no afl weapons.

I get the feeling Nutta will get the nod round 1 also. Selection will be very interesting and perhaps telling for a few players.

No chance Knights has of getting a game unless he plays two full very good games. Limited preseason is going to see him behind the rest of the team anyway. Best thing for Knights is to play at the Eagles for a month, get fit, dominate and come into the team flying rather than having to find his form and his confidence in the AFL.

comment was based on his attack on the ball .......going up for marks one handed and not fully committing the body to the contest was reminiscent of 2010/2011 Henderson .......both good kicks BUT ....

.
Ahhh Stats again :p .....what impressed me was his movement thru traffic and his decisions by foot coming out of defence

Obvious Sanderson is putting good footskills into his defensive unit .......Reilly, Henderson, Shaw, Truck, Johncock

Not sure that's good for McKernan whose decision making is still in development and i think Talia will be hand balling a lot this season ;)

I think Hendo's concussion in pre-season last year knocked his confidence and it's taken until now for him to recover it. Can't have been easy coming from basketball to the far more demanding physicality of AFL.

Thanks for calling this out. Sure he got in the way nicely a few times... but we'd need a little more than that from him if he is playing loose man.

So who do the Reilly knockers think should come into the side at his expense???

We can easily fit both Doughty and Reilly into the side.. Too many people looking at preseason stats and don't understand that the intensity come round 1 will be increased and having AFL hardened veterans will help our young team handle this... We already have an extremely young team, so these two will not be taking anyone else's spot in the side...

And honestly - Paladin... why are you pointing out the fact that Reilly had only 6 touches in a win against Carlton (does S. Thompson not deserve a spot because he only got 6 touches in the same game?)... Reilly doesnt need to get 20 touches in a preseason game to justify his spot in the side - he has it locked it by playing over 150 AFL games. Until a young player steps up and proves he is better than Reilly, it wont happen...

Also - with such a young side we are going to have many young players who will need to be rested and go through form slumps (happens to every young player) and we will need to play as settled as a lineup as possible week in week out, which is another reason as to why Doughty and Reilly will play all 22 games if healthy.

My best 22 for round 1: (two changes from the side I suggested 3 weeks ago)

B: Johncock Talia Petrenko
HB: Doughty L Thompson Otten
C: Mackay Vince Van Berlo
HF: Smith Tippett Douglas
FF: Porps Walker Dangerfield
RR: Jacobs Thompson Sloane

Interchange: Reilly, Jaensch, Lynch (was McKernan)

Sub: Tambling

Emergencies: Callinan (was Johnston) / Knights / Henderson

Honestly AFC979810 im not knocking Reilly because he had 6 touches v Carlton then 2 v Port playing loose man. I was questiong how WW could possibly say Reilly has impressed this preseason when he clearly hasn't done anything at all.

Senior players can do as they please in the preseason im not fussed if Stiffy or Thommo get donuts. If i was Reilly however i would want to be playing my absolute best footy or he may just find himself first emergency rd1. But he might be more confident about his spot than i am :)

I see you have Reilly and Doughty picked before Henderson and Callinan. Lets wait and see what direction Sando takes this team. Do you really think Smith, Otten, Petrenko, Jaensch and Henderson need Brent Reilly's experience to play well????? Its not like they are first year players. I would pick all of them before Brent on merit no youth bias at all.

I really hope Reilly turns it around but he has achieved zero and has had a mediocre career if you judge him aginst other 150 game players.

Doughty Rutten Jaensch
Otten Talia Johncock
Smith Dangerfield Van Berlo
Petrenko Tippett Vince
Porplyzia Walker Callianan

Jacobs Thompson Sloane

Douglas Mackay Mckernan (Sub) = Henderson

Lynch Shaw Tambling Wright Reilly Symes Jenkins all miss

Hendo gets the sub due to his versatility, speed and running ability to be an impact player.

Doughty gets the nod over Reilly due to being a better lockdown defender

Mckernan/Jenkins/Lynch is a tough one......

Callinan is an easy choice. All class pure footballer.

Otten just gets the nod over Shaw for third tall but this could change.

The defence is easily experienced enough. Please tell me where you hide Reilly in that side? Dont even suggest being the sub. He has proven to be a liability in the midfield. If you chose him over Doughty fair enough. I expect Sando will rotate them somewhat.

If Rutten fails to get up slot Shaw/LThompson in.

Our sides arent too different at all - 3 main differences (I didn't count Rutten / L Thompson - as I don't think Rutten will get up for Rd 1 - however if he does he obviously comes in).

You have McKernan over Lynch... I chose Lynch because i feel like Lynch has more versatility (Someone compared him to S Stevens which i 100% agree with)... I think we go with Jacobs playing 75% of the game in ruck with Tippo playing 25% (and Lynch goes forward during this time)... I can see the merit in you selecting McKernan and think this one is line ball.

You have Henderson over Tambling as the sub... To be honest - I can see why you have done this... Probably a silly call by me - just really want to see Tambo succeed...

You have Callinan over Reilly - I really cannot understand this one. Callinan is serviceable player, but to expect him to be a walk up start??? He is 29 had his only year on a senior list wrecked by injury (playing 3 average games). Add to this the fact that he is on the rookie list and no certainty to get called up to the main list. He was recruited as a depth player who has an AFL ready body and can provide a contest. I really hope he doesnt play a game and would much rather see Matty Wright in the squad.. I really think that the only reason he plays is if we have a heap of injuries.

No way is Callinan a walk up start...Matty Wright ahead of Nutta n McIntyre, although McIntyre could be a bolter, really like him...

Reilly will play 22 games, with his great foot-skills coming out of the backline he's found his niche...

Tambling will play 22 games......FOR STURT....Please, he has shown nothing....

Was looking thru teams and there is absolutely no chance of Knights playin Rnd1, he' starting 2012 from a fair way back, would love to see him get back to form tho...

A bloke like Douglas would need to start the year quite strongly also, he would be on the cusp of the 22, really needs to show 2010 form, 2011 form wont cut it this year you'd imagine...

Hope Lynch goes on from his pre-season form however im not convinced...

How's Otten going?? Im worried about his progression??!! Sam Shaw waiting in the wings looks like a serios player....

Must not comment, must not comment.

Someone else please do before I lose my self control

I'll give it a crack.

I love the posters who are impressed by two pre season games, acting like he's a first gamer we've never seen before.

Wow, his silky skills coming out of defence! How did we miss that in 2003!

And that Doughty kid looked incredible. Can't wait to see what he adds to the side!

F: Wright -- Walker -- Lynch

HF: Porplyzia -- Tippett -- Douglas

C: Smith -- Dangerfield -- Henderson

HB: van Berlo -- Talia -- Jaensch

B: Johncock -- Rutten (Thompson L. on standby) -- Otten

Under strong consideration but not included: Thompson L, Reilly, Knights, Tambling, Callinan, Mackay, Jenkins,

Not really considered: Symes, Kerridge, Lyons, McIntyre, Shaw
