Positives:

3 debutants.
Zorko and Green taking their games to a new level
Browny (albeit on Cheney)
Lester in tight
West kicking 3 goals!!!

Negatives:

Redden and Rocky going missing
Defenders
Lack of spread (always had a get out handball but not a get out kick)
Frees against again

**** Merret. Just spoil it, if you try and mark it and miss that is what happens
Merrett is too often an absolute train wreck.
what the f... merret!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Merret has also had a poor game, always seems to be 3 steps behind his opponent
It was, but how many times was the ball turned over and the Hawks had 3-4 loose players in their forward line and our defenders running around flapping around 20+ metres off their opponents?
I guess from the quotes people will deduce that I wasn't a fan or Merret's game today. He played LAZY and UNACCOUNTABLE football. I would drop him immediately! On today's performance, he won't be missed. Other than that, I actually think there was plenty to be positive about today.

I would prefer Hanley to play forward of centre. He adds so much more to the side when he is attacking and kicking goals.
Don't him him playing off half back at times, but he's too good at breaking lines and hitting targets forward of centre to leave out of the play like he was for most of the game today.

first thing at training next week is not to slack off. fmd how many times did they score from centering it back into the guts.

I know rockliff kicked 3 but for god sake put him the middle. Move Redden to the forward line and use his tackling for pressure.

Don't people remember that Merrett always takes a couple of weeks to get going? He'll be back to his excellent self in a couple of weeks.

Either that or we're stuffed.

redden didnt get much of it but he was still our number one pressurer (is that a word?). his 11 tackles were valuable

Par for the course for Redden. He needs to offer more of which I think he is capable. On pressure I love Green and Lester's work. Zorko had a great game but goddamn he needs to tidy up his disposal. He's always been it a bomb it deep kind of guy but with all his other attributes he could seriously be something special with cleaner ball use.

I can't believe Goose is supposedly on the outer, yet Merrett will simply be gifted his usual amount of games despite typical performances such as today's.

Merrett took a couple of brilliant marks as well. Defence was let down by the mids in the second half.

Why do the umps call play on if you go 1cm off your mark but allow Buddy's ark?

redden averaged 7 tackles last year i think, so 11 is a pretty good effort

Has Merrett got Polks spot this year as the target after we lose?

Maybe Leppa favours him cos he's a red headed key back....

Happy with the result in the end. Played well against reigning premiers, didn't get smashed too much. Some good signs.

Dissapointing finish , we were in it for 3/4 of the match . Our backs didnt have a good game , one on one stuff, expect better from these guys, maybe harsh.
Take Mayes out of our side and we would of been worse thats for sure.
We should of finished within 5 goals.
There are still some positives there, we will get better, and I think we look better than last year. With more composure we would of overtaken them and who knows.
Bring on next week, hopefully some improvement.

Takes deep breath.........

Calmed down a bit now after 2 and half hours swearing at the TV, the Umps and our own players (even though I love them all)....God knows what the poor neighbours think:oops:

Have now convinced myself everything has to be taken in context and relative to other marker points....like that shameful performance we put in in Round 1 last year. Compared to that, I for one feel much more optimistic going forward this year than last.

People saying we "rolled over" in the last quarter are being very harsh IMO. If there is no petrol left in the tank, then it's impossible to keep going. Thought this really was a classic example of being run of their feet.

Come on !!!!.....beaten but not disgraced:thumbsu:
