B: Dunn - Frawley - Terlich

HB: Grimes - Mcdonald - Georgiou

C: Vince - Cross - Watts

R: Spencer - N.Jones - Mckenzie

HF: Trengove - Pederdon - Toumpas

F: Kennedy-Harris - Fitzpatrick - Howe

INTER: Tyson - Viney - Michie

Sub - M.Jones

I have Mckenzie giving Armitage a hard tag for the game, he won't have Lenny, Dal Santo, Stevens and Montagna leading the way and I reckon he'll struggle with a tag, that allows N. Jones, Cross, Tyson Trengove, Viney and Michie to go head to head with St Kilda's depleted midfield.

If our midfield gets on top which i think it will we need targets to kick to, that's why Pederson gets a game and Howe should be playing deep in the forward line next to Fitzy.

Mcdonald to take Riewoldt, Frawley to take the next defender (Lee), he should be able to run off him and run a muck, Georgiou to take Maister.

Apart from our forward line we are pretty much at full strength, Georgiou is covering Garland's spot pretty well.

Doesn't look too bad when you put it that way. :thumbsu:

Looks about right, although I think Blease will play ahead of Pedersen which is unfortunate for him. Unless Roos intends for Pedersen to play that decoy forward role like he did against Richmond Fitz and Howe should be sufficient up forward given Pedersen doesn't add much in the way of a genuine attacking target. Blease offers speed and the possibility of a couple of goals on the break in a game which I think is more useful with our current style of footy where we're struggling a bit to send the ball forward without a few really big targets (Clark, Dawes and Hogan big, not Pedersen big) inside 50.

Still reckon we can win, everything will need to go our way though. Howie kick 5, Cross, Jones and Bernie will need to get 20+ and a goal each. McDonald will have to have a solid game against St Nick.

Our game style is to hold possession which blease is horrible at , pedo creates a contest and I'd like to see him play along with fitzy and Howe and maybe have trengove spending time up forward

Pedersen isn't a terrible forward, and with Hogan going down, you'd expect him to be included in the squad.

I agree. Also throw in the fact that we probably won't have Gawn or Jamar resting forward, and I think Pedersen has to play.

howe will be a much better forward this year... his marking power with decent delivery = scoring.
vince will love lacing him out like he did with tex in 2012.
this year roos will put in place good basic systems and 2015 will bring massive benefits for melb...
Gotta walk before you run.
Im getting around the dees this year. officially my new second team.

I actually think Sammy has done a pretty solid job, especially against Geelong - used it pretty cleanly.

Hi guys,

I am curious to know what is happening with Mark Jamar. Have found hide nor hair on him and how he is progressing this preseason. When is he likely to start featuring in the lineup? Is Jake Spencer the #1 ruckman going forward?

Jamar will probably have quite limited game-time this year, was injured a lot last year. His body is just getting on. I doubt we'll see him before at least round four at this rate.

Might have to agree to disagree on this one , although to be fair to Sammy alot of the time he made penetrating runs he was the closest Melbourne player to goal with a bunch of opposition in front of him , he's probably a victim of the set up in my eyes but he still looks so confused as to what exactly he is supposed to do

Hey all.

Just wondering if anyone knows what's going on with Nate Jones?

I was just on the AFL app and it has him on the injury list as 'Eye - TBC'

He did get a whack/cut above the eye which required treatment in the first quarter in Saturday - but he played out the game so I'm not sure if it's that?

Possibly. Hasn't been update since Saturday so its a good shout.

Just caught me by surprise because I thought if there was even a hint of him missing both sides would be all over it ala Hogan!

As I said on the Saints board: This is turning into a damned cripple fight!

God help me if we lose this, no tall forwards and all. I will seriously lose my shit.

The Saints have no midfield what so ever this week (Montagna, Hayes and Steven all missing, Dal Santo and McEvoy traded), we should carve them up, absolutely no excuses.

I don't think we'll smash them but we really should win, also remember they don't have Milne anymore who was their most reliable goalscorer over the past few years.

I dont think it will be a flogging either, when i said 'carve them up' i meant through the midfield. We should win plenty of the ball. Predicting an 18-30 point victory, but ill take any win truth be told, we are Melbourne after all, but a loss in this game would be absolutely shattering.

I hope the lack of midfielders force Reiwoldt further up the ground which would make him less damaging.
TMac usually holds his own very well against Reiwoldt, another reason why we absolutely should win this.

I can take a round 1 loss if they bounce back and win the next four haha. I think the real issue with losing to the Saints would be the mental dive in confidence it would bring to the playing group given the positivity they'll be feeling with the higher training standards and more effective match strategies and team cohesion under Roos. We'll see.
