Footy Show facebook page justed posted an image of Paul Roos reading 'Roosey Live!' 8:30 thursday. Problem is, there's a game on Thursday night. So wouldn't the footy show be on Wednesday? :S

That was as of the first bounce, think they used Sportsbet's market.
Fair enough. Though I definitely recall at least one market pushing Port as favourites.

In any case, St.Kilda's pride will be dented by all the talk of them being wooden spoon favourites. We'll need our boys to really assert some dominance early

You reckon the saints are going to make the finals?

I'll eat my hat if they win 5 for the year!

That being said, doesn't mean we will win this one. I'd love to have a forward line!

I love the optimism of where our goals will come from. Melbourne average 9.5 goals per game (including a 12 goal quarter) New year, new team I expected a 20 goal quarter ;)
Howe only played as a full time fwd during thay 12 goal quarter

Not too many people know much about Viv Michie outside Melbourne fc and Freo, infact I don't know much about him, however come seasons end hopefully he will be well known amongst AFL fans. No pressure on him, I just can't help being excited due to the hype around someone that's played 1 game. (as a sub?)

Think we'll line up like this;

B: Dunn McDonald Georgiou
HB: Grimes Frawley Terlich
C: Watts Jones Vince
HF: Toumpas Pedersen Blease
F: Howe Fitzpatrick JKH
R: Spencer Trengove Tyson
Int: Cross Bail McKenzie M.Jones

The main problem is that we play a high posession game starting in defense, and we have no guys down there (with that line up) who will hit a target 7/10 times.

Good job, this would be my selected side too with only Michie in for M Jones. I think against the lesser sides where the intensity is not so high we're going to be well competitive but it's going to be a train wreck against the good teams with our suicidal turnovers. All we can hope for now is that with correct training and maniacal work ethic we can see players improve their skills across the season that will see us more and more able to make the better teams really have to work for it.

He has certainly had his knockers but I think Shannon Byrnes is as important as Anyone, he is experienced and he is a good forward when he is on

He needs to kick 2 or 3
To help take the pressure off JKH and also give encouragement to the big blokes to make a contest
Can lead to a wing too which will be handy.

Nice team-
my only concerns are Blease and Bail with a little question beside Jordie
Blease- undoubted talent, lots of speed, but cannot find the pill. Even again Geelong and Richmond where the team had 400 odd possessions- he had half a dozen- this is not new for him
Bail- love his determination and courage but is his body up to it?
Jordie- tackling machine and huge heart but not quick and disposal is poor

Id leave out Blease, bring in Michie and Byrnes and play only one of Mckenzie or Bail-
Nicholson and Kent would be two of my emergencies- just missing out, though i imagine Kent v JKH will be a close call

I remember people were doubting Roos and wondering whether he was gonna be a one trick pony, and whether or not he was going to bring his contensted SCG style to melbourne

Well it would appear that he has given us a game plan that is probably best suited to the MCG and subiaco allowing our players to easily find space for the chip chip hold possesion type game

If StKilda bring a real intensity to there tackling and effort they could force alot of turnovers and really hurt us on the rebound, I wonder if we are going to be encouraged to try and maintain possesion at etihad or is there going to be a more direct line taking at the smaller ground

I like those changes. I'd also have Watts at CHF instead of Pedersen, or Fitz up to CHF and Watts in the forward line. We talk about it a lot, but I'm yet to see any clear evidence that Watts is going to make it as a midfielder. If we have Howe, Watts and Fitz running around in the forward line, we've still got enough height / athleticism in the forward line to trouble sides, and we make room for another player who is a midfielder.

B: Dunn McDonald Georgiou
HB: Grimes Frawley Terlich
C: Cross N.Jones M.Jones
HF: Vince Watts Byrnes
F: Howe Fitzpatrick JKH
R: Spencer Trengove Tyson
Int: Toumpas Michie Bail/McKenzie
Sub: Blease/Kent

The other bonus we have is although Watts is a shite pack mark he can make good leads and convert them, if he has Dom Tyson and Bernie Vince hitting him up on a lead he could kick 3-4 like he did against the bulldogs last year

I also doubt he will be to stubborn to change when we are missing our 3 best key forwards
I doubt Roos will abandon his plan for Watts to play midfield before a ball has been kicked in anger.
I reckon you are both close, will probably start with watts on a wing and see how the game pans out . Would not surprise if he gets thrown forward if plan A is not producing goals.
