Too much doom and gloom in here.

We’ll give this a shout.

Gibbs goes to water more often than not, as does Sloane when Howe has sat on him.

Let’s see if they can contain our forwards.

Given last years finals team selection I cannot see nash not playing. Clarko is all in on him. If he doesn't play after another pre season that would b Clarko admitting he got it wrong last year... he's generally been right.

He does give us versatility, which Clarko loves.

Interesting fixture we have, 7 out of our first 9 games are played at 3.20pm, 6 of those on a Sunday...

Onto the match, I expect it to be close to be honest. First round of the season generally have some sloppy skills and some poorly executed structural things that get ironed out as the season progresses. Our midfield will be tested and O'Meara may cop a tag given he's got much more expectations on him without Mitch around. Young guys like Worpel, Morrison and Cousins will all need to play well and I think the biggest concern will be the cohesion within our mids given the inexperience.

In defence I think Brand will play, Adelaide have a bunch of talls so we will likely pick him to line up on one of these (although conditions may change this). The rest of the defence is pretty settled.

The forward line will be the biggest test, do we play Lewis to stretch their defence or do we play Nash to provide that mobile run and tackle pressure? There's probably a spot up for grabs for Hanrahan or Moore in the pocket as well.

Can't wait for the season to start!

injured: Mitchell, Birchall, Scully, Wingard, Howe?, Minchington, Kosi

i expect everyone else is fit?, not sure on Howe so just assuming injured

Burgoyne, Roughead, Frawley, McEvoy, Shiels, Breust, Smith, Gunston, Stratton, Puopolo, Henderson, Impey, O'Meara, Ceglar, Sicily, Hardwick, Morrison, Worpel (18) are the mainstays of the team it seems

(1) out of Schoey, Nash and Lewis theres room for 1 of them, Schoey as an experienced forw who kicks a goal a game and straightens our structure, Nash who adds speed and unpredictability or Lewis the regulation CHF who has struggled to kick goals at the top level

(1) out of Mohr, Brand and Mirra, you have Mohr for the stronger forwards, Brand for the taller forw, but has weaknesses and Mirra for a general defender who can cover other team mates as 3rd man up

(2) out of Miles, Cousins, Scrimshaw, Moore, Walker, Golds, Greaves, Jiath its likely Cousins will get a spot having had a good pre-season and being our only other inside mid option atm, then the last spot will goto any number of candidates

Dude is underrated. He gets so many of those goals because he plays on taller defenders but generally works his arse off to break away from them.

Was quite happy with this not being known by opposition supporters, thanks now you've blown apart the Joe the goose myth! He does indeed work his arse off, and is probably one of the most mobile KPF's in the AFL.

Awesome.. we’ve got an Airbnb on north terrace so I suppose we’ll just trot over to the pub. Cathedral could be the goer

Cathedral's in the opposite direction. The Strathmore is the go, or the Casino, both are on Nth Tce. Or the gentlemen's club...The Firm

Cathedral's a great option. Go past the ground on King William, right hand side at next lights just before the RWCH.

Food is good, will be packed with footy crowd. Queens Head is also same street, another with good food, actually better food but haven't been to both for a while. You'll get into the Cathedral easier than the Queens Head due to size.

This is what I want to see...

B: Stratton, Frawley, Hardwick

HB: Scrimshaw, Brand, Sicily

C: Henderson, Shiels, Smith

HF: Impey, Gunston, Burgoyne

F: Breust, Roughead, Puopolo

R: McEvoy, O’Meara, Worpel

INT: Cousins, Ceglar, Morrison, Minchington

Can't argue with that team with the players we have available. The only change I would make is Dylan Moore in for Minchington.
Morrison is extremely lucky and probably has a few credits after last year but his 2 pre-season games have been horrible.

Mitchell aside, the rest of our team looks much better than the last two times we played them

In JLT our midfield seemed to be Gelled (offsetting the loss of Mitch to an extent), lasting the distance is the issue, thats were a superior coaching staff come in.

Crows away in R1 and Eagles away in r23 are free hits for us, otherwise 20 round season

Rd1 milestone. Shaun Burgoyne to play 359th game, & draw level with J Blakey in 11th spot in VFL/AFL history. 432 BHarvey 426 MTuck 403 KBartlett 400 DFletcher 383 RHarvey 378 SMadden 375 CBradley 372 AGoodes 366 BQuinlan 364 BJohnson 359 JBlakey 358 SBurgoyne 356 BDoull, PRoos.

My personal preference is Lewis over Nash. Regardless of where either of them are in their development, I believe the type of player Lewis 'could' become is better for Hawthorn than what Nash could become.

Make no mistake the game will be hot in the first 10 mins. We need to hold our ground early and not let them and their putrid crowd get going.
Been a difficult 12 months for the Crows with the smashing they copped in the media and a few off field tragedies.
No for a fact Rory Sloane has had this game pencilled in for a long time and he’s in career best form fitness wise.

If we can be within 2 goals at half time and stick around late we’ll have a sniff.

Gotta weather the early onslaught because it’s coming

Will be there with Junior. Go Hawks!

This. Lewis needs games now and with Roughead nearing the end of his career and the fact that Lewis is the only key forward on the list outside the best 22 in a position on the ground in which we have zero depth in, so it makes sense to fast track his development. When Roughead goes into the midfield and then Lewis goes to full forward.

Nash has talent but he’s a long way off from being a decent player. I feel like he’s being rushed into the team too soon despite not really dominanting in the VFL last year. He’s gone from a category B rookie, rookie, to senior listed player in just 2 years. I do think in time he will be a good player but he’s no where near best 22.

Am I on my own here in believing the Crows don't really have any area that they scare me in? Their midfield is solid without the superstars (Omera is the best mid on the ground), their defence is solid without any threat that they will stop us from kicking a score, in fact I would hazard a guess that our forwards are far superior to their defenders and their attack is containable especially with Stratts or Dimma keeping Eddie in check.

I genuinely think we will knock them off.

With Wingard and potentially Gunston out, I don't think our forwards are superior to their defence.

Was thinking along those lines this morning. Mitch Birch Scully Wingard they'd be hoping can be best 22. Howe as required.
If Birch is in, Burgoyne or Sicily might be forward

Their HB line is elite. Laird, Smith and Milera is serious running power.

Sloane and B Crouch back in the middle gives them grunt and class.

G'day fellas, I didn't know where to post this question but figured it would be ok in here.

Of all your younger players like Scrimshaw, Moore, Jones ect which (if any) are likely to debut round1. I know you blokes ease your young fellas in more than we do so might it be a bit of a rotation with a few games here and there, that sort of thing? Other than Tom missing are there any key areas of need that a newer guy could fill?

Cheers, all the best for 2019 and hope our game vs you blokes is a real cracker like usual!
Imho, the most likely candidates are Scrimshaw, and more likely, Cousins ( assuming you put him into the younger category )
