Why have you brought my name up

Ffs I never said anything other than I wouldn’t be surprised if he was selected

Why are you asking for my permission to back the club

Smartass
Because Caj mentioned you in his reply to my post. In regards to Jack being selected on the back of credits.

Yes I'm a "smartass".

The Dogs have a cunning plan - copy our jersey at the back and hope we pass it to them. If they saw our D.E. stats they'd realise their folly.

The folk in yellow/green will be confused by the Dags' jumper. This could work to our advantage.

This Dags jumper arrangement is up there with two other all time infamy sponsorships - the bilious Carlton jumper (smarties or Mars?) and Gary Hocking changing his name to Whiskas.

My point is that the people that know best are the ones selecting our players, Kizza aside & I am always amused when a few on here think they know better than a group of blokes who have been well respected for years on end by their opponents throughout the whole competition, for the way they go about it. They look at his worth, not you & I. Not sure why people get worked up.
If it's all ok with you & Punts, I'd really like to back the club & leaders to pick Jack if they think he is doing what they expect from him. That means they believed he was the best person to run out alongside them for the last two years when we were blooding many younger & inexperienced players. Perhaps this year he may not play another senior game & career over but let's not pat ourselves on our backs because "we told you so". If you guys keep saying it long enough you'll eventually be right. Congratulations to all.

So effectively what you're saying is that anyone who coaches/manages a sports team is infallible, doesn't make mistakes, or have any personal biases towards certain players or game styles because they know better than the average punter. Can't say I agree with this at all, there are plenty of examples of coaches/managers being blind to the bleeding obvious.

In any event happy to move on to more interesting discussions as you and I will never agree anytime Longmire's decision making is ever questioned

I wandered to the training session today- Buddy looks a far way off his best in his running session.

Anyone want an idea of whos sitting dirlls etc or comment or status of any particular player?

Was Sinclair out there? Haven’t heard much about his withdrawal from JLT. I assume it’s to protect our only fit ruck at the moment but we don’t really know!

And did you see Ling?

Ling was sighted....it looked like he was legit talking to the physio about his shoes for deadset 45mins....

This is getting beyond a joke.

How so? We already knew he wasn’t doing full training

It is close to 12 months out with this injury. People get back from ACLs in this time. Is it turf toe? Is it a bad break?

He's meant to be back running. If they cannot get the kids shoes right wtf are our physios good for?

Despite the palaver about him back running, I've got to a stage of not expecting him to play at all this year.

It is very disappointing that Ling has struggled with this injury for as long as he has.

I'm not sure why you want to compound that by making up a story that our physios have not got him wearing appropriate shoes or suggest that he isn't going to play at all this year, though.

Just to be clear- ling didn’t do zero work. He was just in his own separate group away from the main group- and second group buddy/Menzel doing running training.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

I've noticed Heeney seems to be a bit of a panic button for Horse. If something's not going right, he'll often deploy Heeney to provide a spark. In most cases that's inside 50, but he's also been known to drift back to help out (such as last year when he took the MOTY.) So I would only expect Heeney to play forward if we are in serious struggle town. So, use your tipping brain to figure out if we'll be in trouble against the Bulldogs or not :p

Buddy will play. It's more certain than taxes.

He's back running but running does not equal full training.

Think of it as a delayed pre-season for Ling. Everything he's doing is a few months behind what the rest of the list is doing.

If I were to guess, I'd say he's in the equivalent of the November/December month of pre-season. That first stage where you're back after the lay-off, adjusting your fitness levels, doing laps and laps and laps and laps, except he probably needs to do even more than the regular players would because of the length of his lay-off (nearly 12 months as opposed to the six or so weeks the senior players usually have.) You can't rush someone back into full training, the real physical stuff that usually happens in the New Year, unless your certain they can handle it. Given his injury and his age, I'm not surprised the club is being cautious with the fitness stage of his pre-season.

Next step would hopefully be his return to full training, being able to do the competitive drills and physical contact, even some form of match sim throughout the weeks, just as the rest of the list was doing in January, except he will be doing it in April/May. If he can get through that and show the club that he is ready, I would expect him to be NEAFL-ready by late-May/early-June, which would be smack-bang during mid-season. He'd then have a solid block to mount a case for senior selection in the latter few months of the season.

Do you notice the problem with above though? It's all hypothetical. That's the plan, but things rarely go according to plan do they? He may not be ready for full training by April or May, or hell, he might even surprise us and be into it early. He might take longer to get himself ready for NEAFL than planned, or he might surprise and prove his readiness earlier than expected. These are all unknowns, which is why it would be reckless and misleading for the club to list him as anything other than 'indefinite.' So yes it's frustrating because we all want to see him in action, but if you put aside that frustration and think logically about it, he's on track with where he should be right about now, and all we can do is hope he stays on that course and avoids any more injuries or niggles along the way.
