You lost me at boner in and scott out. Scott won our young player of the year and has way too much upside to be missing

Changes at this early stage I would make:

Out Dumont In Polec
Out Bonar In Atley
Out Comben/Walker in Scott

FF: Zurhaar, Larkey, Stephenson

INT: Anderson, Scott, Perez, Ziebell

The seventh defender could be any one of Young, Perez or Bonar, but I think that race is far too close to call at this stage. You could argue Josh Walker deserves that spot, which on form he does, but I think that makes the side too tall. Corr, McKay and Tarrant is already a very tall backline.

CHF is now the huge question mark. I imagine the club wants to keep Larkey as far away from the ruck as possible, so realistically it's going to be one of either Xerri or Comben. If one of those two can kick 25+ goals and average 5 hitouts per game next year, then I think the club would be absolutely rapt. Walker is again on the outside looking in, but this time it's due to his inability to ruck. Given that we saw this year that Walker can't take the heat off Larkey, I'd prefer our CHF to be able to pinch hit in the ruck. There's too many medium-sized forwards in our best 22 to play both a CHF and a second ruck. I'd only make an exception for Logan McDonald if he was ready to go.

Like this mix of youth and some seniority in key spots. I think we need Walker up forward as he neutralizes contests and we really should have the smalls who should start capitalizing when we don't mark it. Comben can't be alongside Larkey, it'd be a slaughter in 2021 - Larkey to have Walker and Ziebell for next 1-1.5 seasons, then he can lead while Comben develops. McKay better placed to learn off Tarrant and Corr, and more developed, so Walker goes forward.
I prefer Youngs versatility at half back to start, MacMillan replacement.

Turner, Garner, Hall, Tyson, Mahony, Campbell should all be forced to really show they are best 22 - limited senior players in my opinion.

Xerri, Perez, Bonar, Atu, Comben are the fringe youth who should get first looks at games when injuries occur. If/when these guys aren't cracking it in the 1sts should the likes of Hall, Turner, Campbell come in to fulfill a role.

That sums up where I place each player. Giving 2, 11, 30, 39, plus any rookie upgrades such as Hayden/DFA's, to finish it off.

Tyson, Hall, Campbell, Mahony potentially Atley out at the end of 2021. Going in with our 1st, 2nd and 3rd and hopefully an end of 2nd round for Atley as a FA (looking at Atkins, Smith deals).

I look forward to seeing how often the bloke who has three consecutive top 5 Syd Barker medal finishes gets left out of people's best 18 ITT.

Anyway, with pick 2 and maybe 11 to come into the 22, I think it looks something like this atm:

Hayden - McKay - Corr
Perez - Tarrant - McDonald
Dumont - Cunnington - Polec
Stephenson - Ziebell - Taylor
Thomas - Larkey - Zurhaar
Goldstein - Simpkin - Davies-Uniacke

Scott - Atley - J. Walker - Anderson
EMG: Mahony - Comben - Garner - Hall - Turner - Bonar - Young etc
I think we've still got an obvious hole at KPF, but that could be rectified after drafting McDonald/Thilthorpe or if Comben comes on. I also still think we need a quality crumbing small. When you look at those emergencies, consider that we might still (hopefully) have EVW and W.Walker, and add 2 and 11 to that list, then it turns out our depth might not be as bad as cutting 11 players would suggest.

But the positives are obviously in the youth. Our u23 group is so ******* talented, and I'm glad we realised that and have gone all in on those guys. It's their team now. The likes of Cunners, Ziebell, Taz, Goldy and co are now playing support roles to them, not the other way around.

Its a very clear best 21 for mine. I have Hollands/McDonald playing round 1.

Assuming the draft goes like this:

2: Hollands
11: Cox
30: O'Driscolll
39: Winder

B: Corr - McKay - McDonald
HB: Perez - Tarrant - O'Driscoll
C: Polec - Davies-Uniake - Stepho
HF: Zurhaar - Larkey - Thomas
F: Taylor - Comben - Cunnington
R: Goldstein - Hollands - Simpkin
I/C: Anderson Ziebell Scott Cox

Emergency listed in Order: Xerri Hayden Young Winder Mahony Garner WWalker jWalker

Break glass in case of serious injury: Atley Campbell Hall Tyson Dumont Turner

B: McDonald - McKay - Corr
HB: Atley - Taz - Hayden
C: Polec - Simpkin - Dumont
R: Goldy - Cunnington - LDU
HF: Stephenson - Comben - Scott
F: Ziebell - Larkey - Zurhaar
I/C: Anderson - Thomas - Taylor - Perez
Emergencies: Garner - Turner - Josh Walker

It was really hard picking the best 22 as I wanted to fit in all the listed emergencies, plus Williams, Mahoney and our pick 2 player, but couldn’t. I chose Thomas over Mahoney, but Jack’s time will come next year. I chose development with Comben forward over Walker. I expect Scott to be used more as a wing option this year with Stephenson also rotating through there. I chose not to include Walker as I felt he makes us too top-heavy. TT will likely rotate with Cunners/LDU when they go forward for spells. We need TT in the midfield for longer.

Hollands would replace someone like Scott as we have too many mid-forward rotate into the midfield types. If we get McDonald, Comben goes out.
