I liken it to the modern, 6'2ish midfielder. Wasn't a thing until it was. When it finally works, everyone will try it.

The key is abililty.
A gun 6'2 midfielder is great, but if they aren't that talented you are better off with a guy like Merritt. ( or Jack Steven ).
Tall wingers are probably good if they have talent and can get the ball off the deck.
Dylan Roberton was at his best on a HBF , and didn't play tall.

100% agree re: ability. No argument. My point, which I didn't make clear, was that it (6'2 mid) wasn't a consideration until one was found. I believe the same will apply to the wing. Finding one will be a point of difference for the team that has him.

in the second team i listed, with Billings on the bench, i felt that Gresham, Higgins and Billings could rotate through the forward line and midfield.

I'm surprised that peeps have already elevated Hayes to the 1st 22. He played well in praccy, but think our forwadline will be far more potent with Sharman and King with Members as the 3rd. Sharman can chop out in the ruck

I'm surprised that peeps have already elevated Hayes to the 1st 22.

First 22? In the first 22 it would be Marshall and Ryder and no Hayes.

But in Round 1 there will be no Ryder.

Rats likes to play two ruckman, and last year he even did that by playing P Hunter and McKernan who were both useless. Hayes and Campbell are both upgrades on either.

So I fully expect that come Round one if Marshall is available that Rats will go for either Marshall and Hayes or Marshall and Campbell.

If Marshall is ruled out then it will be Campbell and Hayes.
