Amon AA if he keeps this up
Someone mentioned earlier in the thread he’s been our best player in the first 2 games. I completely agree with this and we all know what a weapon he is on the run using that beautiful left boot.

The thing that’s pleased me most so far with Karl is how good he’s been defensively. Not something he’s known for and I haven’t seen it mentioned here. Has anyone else noticed this? Seems to have really improved this area of his game which is a credit to him and the coaches.

He'd actually looked pretty good defending at times during his first year with us, but definitely stepped it up again last year.

Pretty impressive imo for a guy who doesn't look or play like he's got the physical chops to do it.

Pinch myself that we have him, often. When people talk about our team's lack of genuine cream I wonder if they ever look at the playing list.

Perfect how can the AFL prove it was the Scrimshaw hit that caused the concussion.

He played for 15 minutes afterwards and was withdraw at half time.

There may have been other incidents to lead to concussion event.

Downgrade the charge from extreme to severe and get from 3 to potentially 2, which he is likely to miss with broken nose anyways...

Given he was hit in the head and went to ground not far from the bench there should be some scrutiny over why he didn’t go off for the HIA right away instead of potentially exacerbating things by playing on.

I’m not exactly sure what we can argue here.

1. Scrimshaw was set to bump, opted not to as it was a risk to the opponent (duty of care)

2. Scrimshaw then opts to tackle.

3. Opponent disposes of the ball meaning Scrimshaw needs to opt out of tackling.

4. Contact to the head is minimal and result of the contest, duty of care taken.

5. Opponent has a history of concussion.

6. Opponent opts to remain on the field and it was club officials who took him off. Indicates precaution rather than actual injury

Ridley was still running around 28 mins later.
I wonder if this is what gets scrimshaw off.

If we are deeming an incident Severe and the cause of a concussion, Essendon Medical team have to answer why he played on so long and could be in major trouble as the incident was clear and replayed over and over enough for them to call him in for a HIA.

So if Essendon report that he played on and concussion came from later incident then scrimshaw hit can be down graded.

EDIT: Scrimshaw was taken off for a HIA at 10:46 immediatly after his collision and we ruled him out. Ridley was still playing the game and interchanged off at 20:34. So a full 10 minutes of gametime after scrimshaw was already off the ground why wasn't he assessed earlier?

Agree. The Match Review Officer graded the incident as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact, resulting in a three-match ban. It was definitely careless and high. Maybe there is some wriggle room with the severe impact grading?
I think that is what is happening here. It's possible the club has gone over the game footage leading up to Ridley eventually coming off and found maybe one or two incidents which cast doubt on it being the Scrimshaw hit which did it.

Not unhappy we're rolling the dice at the tribunal but really can't see the result changing. It was a clumsy moment- don't think there was much malice in it but once a player is concussed you're almost guaranteed to get weeks.
Ridley looked in a bad way immediately after the incident, I was amazed he wasn't taken straight off for an assessment. Just one of those things...if Ridley was ok I think Scrim probably gets off with a fine but it's all outcome based these days

Also I feel it looked like Scrimma was trying to punch the ball.

I find it odd that was Striking. To me, Striking implies some limited premeditation. What I saw was impact as a result of an attempted block/tackle. May have been careless, but not a strike.

But I'm not a lawyer, so what would I know. I do not keep up with alternative definitions applied these days.

On Scrim, two points:
1. Wasn't a strike of any kind
2. Severity wasn't severe given he was able to play on for a bit (correct me if I'm wrong?)

It was careless but he was ready to tackle hence the arm out..but no way is it 3 weeks...

Those HFC supporter who say it deserve 3 weeks have been brainwashed by the media 🤦

The able to play on, wonder if it is something to get back at us, with ridley being set to be dropped.

Remember, Brad Scott came out and said Brian Lake nearly killed firrito back in the day which got it the highest possible grade

For those saying scrim should get 3, how many do you thing archer should get?

Given both happened in the general play, archer knee someone in the face (accidental) and the player was knocked out and stretchered off..
