Maric should have been on the ground and taking the kick ins.
Dewar isn't an elite kick like Jetta was, can't see why he was played in the backline..

Dewar in the backline shocked the F out of me it was a easy decision to swap him and send Hunt back .. He didn’t really embarrass himself but we needed some flair like Dewar showed in the pre season..
Ginbey not being moved into the midfield was a move that lacked creativity by Mini , he’s a fit competitive tackling beast that could have added great value to the clearances ..

I think Baker and Graham were awesome on the weekend, because they absolutely busted their gut to make a difference out there, so don’t get me wrong, I know what good senior players can do for a side, but they will be gone soon and we will be left without young midfielders that we really need.
Harley got two-teamed and targeted a lot. If you had a Draper or Smith coming through, everyone (inc. Harley) would be thinking, "don't worry, the cavalry is coming". There's no tangible cavalry coming at the moment. We just got boys on ponies with pop-guns.

The positive was Graham around the stoppage was good if he didn't get it, his opponent didn't get it.
Apart from Hutch everyone else got dominated

Negative the second kick from a point kick out we took a lot of wrong options, we had chances to move it more quickly
by hand or foot from second kick and was a little to conservative compared to pre-season games

Also at centre breaks they constantly had there half back impact the clearance from the square, this was mainly due to Noah Long but there where a couple of others

I get that sentiment and maybe even agree with it, but the question is: with who? Throwing the kids in and watching them get ****ed by the literal premiers doesn't feel like it benefits them or the scoreboard. Meanwhile, whoever you've dropped gets to avoid another hiding and stay at home.

I'm not arguing with you, truly, but I just don't know who you're dropping established senior players for right now. If we were functional, players like Graham would be fringe and the sort of person who you call up and he does a job. But as it happens, he'd be in our first four or five selected based on Sunday.
Ahh it's the favourite line ..how will the kids go if we drop the seniors for not putting in effort and having poor attitude and output?

Yeah..maybe about the same as the seniors which is the point really.

And on top of that at least they would come in hungry to prove themselves.

Didn't the quarters all take over 31 minutes which is long even with GC kicking a big score. Really heavy stoppage game with lots of ball ups.

When stoppage is halved does it count?

Looking for a small silver lining to take into next week.

TK needs to go or be moved out of the guts for all the reasons stated above.
Duggan is another who I don’t have in my best 18.
He tries but seriously he’s a club servant who , now that he’s co captain can never be dropped. Slow, poor kick and even worse decision maker.
Hunt is fast and….nah just fast.
Johnston Hall and Gross need to be fast tracked.
Let’s stop bagging HR and as I’ve said before; give him more responsibility not less. Make him the midfield general. Throw Hall and Gross in with him and just let them go.
Of our four current rucks I think Flynn should be last in the pecking order. He doesn’t have an ounce of mongrel in him.
With Waterman out let’s put AReid up forward and get BBW and JW to share rucking.
If Shuey is responsible for the mids he should stop worrying about strategies so much and get a group of youngsters and let them bond and play for each other.
We want them to become a pack. Hunt together;revel in each other’s success.
TK has no rapport with anybody in the middle by the look of it.Neither does HR.
Forget about his go home factor. He’s a competitive beast, make him the boss!
He’s potentially the most talented player we’ve seen so why not use him.
Your the “man” make it happen.
Stars shine!!

TK is inconsistent. When he's on, he's on, when he's not, he goes missing. F him off to the wing.
Duggan is a peanut. Can't believe we've been using him at CBD's.
The problem with Harley is that GC were all over him. They targeted him. It's going to be tough for him. If Yeo's not there, I think he's the man already. I don't mind Baker and Graham spending time in the middle.

Some perspective on last Sunday's game -
Freo lost by 78 points.
Port lost by 91 points.
Saints lost by 63 points.
WCE lost by 87 points.
(we're the youngest rebuilding team there)
Unfortunately, we were also the only team of that lot to play at home.

Even though I had us pegged for 17th this year, I was surprised at how shit we were. I still have Freo and Carlton playing off for the flag (although the risk of one or both of those teams crashing and having their coach sacked is approx. Def Con 2 right now).

I think we'll be better than last year, just a really poor start. And the Lions will probably maul us this week.

Yep, mostly everyone was surprised and gutted, including the coach (?), hence the mega-melts and general uproar. But we played a good team on the rise and then got worn out chasing tail all day, and fell right away in the last qtr...
We might see some better patches this Sunday, although round 1 and we've already sustained injuries to key players...such is footy.

Interestingly, the list average age this year is older than in 2006.

(It's true across the comp though - the average age has gone up quite a bit over that time - the 06 squad was 8/16, the 25 squad is 16/18 for age - even North and Richmond's list are marginally older than their 2006 lists were. Collingwood's list this year averages 3.2 years older than their 2006 list)

I realise that HR is already the “man” but I think giving him more responsibility will help him get over this patch of brawling.Get him more worried about his “pack” than about his own welfare.something which is foreign to TK.

Hmm, makes me yawn! sorry...
I just meant in the context of the big blow-out losers we were the youngest-newest in the rebuilding stage, so not to feel like we're completely worthless.
Port and Freo are in their premiership window, and Saints finished higher than the Suns last year...so it's not necessarily all doom and gloom.

The curse kicked in after Simmo prayed to the footy gods when we were 5 goals down in the 2018 Grand Final.

Worth it.
During the last qtr of the 18GF I said these words "please let us win, I don't care if we are total shit for years!"

Well Kerr was what, 23? Judd 22, Cox 24, Glass maybe 24? QStick was 23. We really should've won two flags in that period.

I think Banfield was the only guy over 30 and Cuz or Wirra would've been next oldest at 28/29.

This is why seeing things like our Team of the Century is kinda bitter sweet.

Like we have probably had more elite talent play in this team in the last 25 years than any other team.

We have two flags in 30 years but it doesn’t feel enough. It’s not just the difficulty of being an interstate side and about losing GFs either - we should have played in a lot more GFs.

The rapid degeneration of two flag winning sides from elite to embarrassing is shitty to say the least

2006 was largely self inflicted. But they rebounded pretty quick by 2011 with the same coach and a bunch of core players leftover from 2006.

If only we'd bombed out 2020-2022 and were top four again by 2023...
