I think it’s Brockman vs Long. If Ryan doesn’t get up Brockman comes in. I’m still waiting for someone to present an argument for why we retained Rawlinson, or even picked him in fact
I dont think anybody knows why we have Rawlinson on the list haha.

Brockman vs Long is hard, Brockman offers something we dont have in our other smalls but everything Long does is so clean. Im still picking Long I think.

Hopefully Brockman can force his way in soon, if he doesnt get a gig with Ryan out anyway

Brockman earned his spot during preseason; we're a rebuilding side, Cripps should miss Round 1.
Yeah that’s a fair point I’d be ok with that but Brockman would want to deliver early. Cripps is the type of player McQualter would love but his fumbling has got worse sharps24. Feels strange talking about competitions for spots.

Strong start BeornJ - hopefully the boys can impress equally on the park. Worth mentioning Owies basketball background and that he was the blues 3rd best goal kicker last year, but they still thought he was hot garbage

They didn't think he was garbage they just wanted to pay him with pocket lint and club merch because the Blues have NFI how to manage a list now that brown paper bags are frowned upon.

Fox Sports predicted R1 team. Assuming everyone is fit I reckon they have got the 23 absolutely spot on and it’s the best team we’ve had on the park since 2021.
Duggan at centre feels a bit weird.
Hopefully some of the young blokes can have a run through the middle before (and after) Yeo returns.

What does Brockman offer us that our other small forwards don't ?

A little more dynamic imo
Long feels more like a mid at half forward, and Cripps/Owies the standard hard running half forwards who prefer to mark than crumb.
Ryan is closer to Brockman but he hasnt been his best for a while now
I think only one of Owies and Cripps should play in round 1.
Brockman has shown enough in preseason to earn a spot.

Bell on SEN saying Bo Allan has been really unwell over the weekend and is unlikely to play this weekend

Said that we’ll have somewhere between 36-38 players available for selection

36-38 available means 6-8 unavailable

Sheed, Yeo, Chesser, Jamieson and Bazzo we all know won’t be ready and the news re Bo Allan makes six

So two others in doubt

Ryan and ??? - I’d suggest Hewett although he was declared as being available by Bell so perhaps someone else under a cloud

Interesting selection this week.

One defender misses out: Allan if ill, otherwise likely Maric.
One small forward misses out, and you could make a case for any of Brockman, Long, Cripps, Owies, or Ryan if not 100%.
Two rucks/forwards miss out: possibly B Williams and J Williams.
Who gets to be sub? Hewett, Dewar, Maric?

This.
Dont need both Owies and Cripps- I see them as very similar gut run pressure players. I think we only have a spot for one of those and to start with that would be Owies mainly due to the fact we traded him in so want to see what he brings. Cripps is also absolute shizen in his first few games after a lay off before he comes good. Rather he get it out of his system in the WAFL.
Brockman looks like he is over his 1st year WC blues that many of our trades have endured. Looks dynamic and dangerous up forward and should be given a go. Even in his first year, I thought he showed he has an element of class with the ball in hand, he just really struggled to get ball in hand.

Also, Cole plays ahead of Maric IMO. We have loads of height back there with Allan, Hough and Ginbey in addition to our KPBs. I think the practice game selection show this is what Mini is also leaning towards.

Looking forward to the start of the season!

After jack Williams was such a revelation last year as the back up ruck who kicked a goal a game from limited opportunities it would be criminal for him not to play .

With waterman and Allen being more lead up forwards we need a bigger body to crash packs and bring the ball to ground

Bailey and Archer are not that player

Backs: Edwards, Gov, Ginbey, Hough, Cole, Baker, Hunt
Mids: Kelly, Reid, Duggan, Graham, Hutchinson, Dewar
Rucks: Flynn, Billiams
Forwards: Allen, Waterman, Jilliams, Cripps, Owies, Long, Brockman
Sub: Maric
Emergencies: AReid, Johnston, Petruccelle

Unavailable: Ryan, Hewett, Allan, the other long term injuries

Looks a bit tall and light on for mids. Hopefully I’m wrong about Ryan and/or Hewett’s availability.

So if Allan is ill and supposedly not available for selection why is he training with the main group?

Can’t have too many lingering symptoms or if it was that contagious you’d think they’d be keeping him away from the rest of the squad.
