Autopsy Round 1 = Collingwood 69-102 Sydney

The game reminded me of our round 4 game @ Brisbane last year.

We were fumbly, hesitant, turned the ball over ad nauseum and got destroyed from those turnovers. Lost by a very similar margin and that margin flattered us in both instances.

The differences obviously are that we were playing at the MCG, and we weren’t coming off three victories to start the season including a big win against Geelong and an annihilation of GWS.

At any rate, we turned it around. We need to stop the rot against the Saints, though. Now or never.
We also weren’t missing our two ruckman

Can Fin and Titch co-exist in the same centre square? Are they similar or different enough to make it work.
They can for attack. Mitchell can help us change the angles and get around pressure, but not sure about defence - particularly when you add in Pendles, Sidey, and Lippa. Pace is an issue against a team like Sydney with a group of really fast elusive side-stepping mids who use it beautifully.

Our defenders regularly leave their man to sprint forward to pressure the ball carrier, impact a contest or give an option - leaving those who've stayed at home in defence outnumbered, so they sag off their man hedging their bets to also cover the other man or the more dangerous space. If we can't maintain the pressure on the ball carrier or turn it over in the back half, the defender who has sagged off his man looks really slack. If our pressure isn't enough, or we're turning it over, our defence looks awful. It's our system. It's worked for two years. We're not going to throw it out yet.
And that system break down is compounded on poor de and bad decision making, which we're currently seeing.

Further we're not outnumbering at the ball / contest like we were last year.

As David King put it, to paraphrase, 'just that metre off, it's just a metre! but thats all it takes'

There's not a lot to fix, but without that fix it looks worse than what it actually is.

Pretty fair from King. We really need to beat the Saints though. Can't afford to go 0-3 with Brisbane up next.
Yep. Hopefully Fly had his angry pants on yesterday during the review & for the rest of this week to get them back on track ..

If it's more an effort type thing, I'd like to think Fly can sort that out. I'd be really disappointed if the boys were just content with winning a flag last year & want to take it easy this year.

Hopefully they have more pride, hunger & competitiveness in them than what they've dished up the past 2 weeks.

A few minutes to go in the final quarter …

BT and Richo clearly bored of the game and prattle on about something else …

… “Swans the envy of the competition, superb list management, they have an ability to trade in players who were average at other clubs and turn them into something special.”

All said while Darcy Cameron takes a good mark in the F50 and kicks the goal.

And the irony was totally lost on them! 🤣

Nothing to do with academies at all

Particularly funny with the constant stream of elite talent they’re gifted by virtue of being located north of Wodonga
