Yeah I know some team teams have already played some others team the past few days. For me, 2017 season starts today :thumbsu:

Selection is reasonable, except for "he who shall not be dropped" Suban :D. I assume we are fielding a team capable of competing first and player development takes a back seat in game 1. Oh well, base on past year's experience he and D Pearce will play a blinder the first game before they start to fade in subsequent games...

On paper, we should be able to match Geelong. However, I'm not sure preseason form can be used for any reference, so I'm going in with zero expectations and try to just enjoy the game.

Hopefully there will be plenty to cheer about, and our new captain officially starts his reign with a 'W'.

Our midfield has the potential to match/outplay Geelong. Much like Collingwood did against the Bullies on Friday. They couldnt capitalise-hopefully we can. Need a few goals coming from our mids and hopefully with the confidence Cam gained from his past two games he can kick 4! Our backline is a concern but as patchy as his preseason form has been, I love having Johnson back. He is creative as well as being pretty good 1on1.
Im backing us to win by 14!

Random story... I am watching this game at the Adelaide casino. So I wont be hard to find. I am already leading the tipping comp by accident and stupidity and heres why...

I didn't put my tips in for round 1. That meant I was automatically chosen the away teams. So far I only got the Essendon vs hawks game wrong. lol

I could potentially get 8-9 if Scum coast beat north, Giants beat the crows and cats beat freo.

I am happy either way with the result, If cats win, I lead the tipping, Freo win, we get off to a good start. I prefer a dockers win anyway. If the last 10 years between Freo and cats at Subiaco is anything to go by, It is going to be close.

What a stupid time to start a game.

But FOOTY'S BACK!!! WOOOOO!!!!

It'd be nice to start the year with a W. Our new recruits have looked pretty good pre-season. Our kids have another pre-season under their belts. Fyfe's back. Langdon's in the 22. Should be a good one. Hopefully

Really crap start time, but I would watch freo at midnight! Anyway, hope Kersten steps up against his old club as he was fairly underwhelming in the jlt imo. Also hope to see the hill boys run the cats off subi and cam mac do well.....GO FREO!

Sandilands to dominate, goals from the midfield, Freo by 15

Freo by 7 points.

Neale to get 44 possessions, but not get any votes in the Brownlow.

The ump from the Hitler Youth to award 5 frees against Sandi. The rumour is that he took offence to Sandi regularly mumbling "you're a bunch of short arsed runts".

Danyle Pearce, gets Brownlow votes.

Doing my votes early:

3 - Suban for doubling his output to TWO effective disposals
2 - DPearce for kicking to a player (in a Freo jumper) inside 50
1 - Dawson for restricting Hawkins to 5 goals

But seriously, if our midfield can come out of the blocks with intensity and get on top I think we are a good chance. Freo by 3 goals.

I just really hope we are competitive and if we aren't, it might be a long season ahead.

Stop dangerfield in the middle and we should have a good chance of winning the game. Sandilands should dominate in the ruck with geelong not having any big name ruckman. If he can use his superior ruckwork we should get on top of the clearances and give our new look forwardline some good chances inside 50 with the hill brother bursting out of the middle and fyfe Etc ofcourse hitting them on the chest. Hopefully freo get the win but it's not going to be a easy game going by our form last year. It is a new year though and we have seen what essendon can do. Time for the players to do their thing and put in a good performance with 100% effort and pressure on the opposition. Hopefully a good win first up

I saw the video on afl website that there is an update to the interpretation where if the tackled player was the one that initiated the high tackle (by ducking, dropping shoulders...), it'll be play on.

Of course, they left some wiggle room where if the umpire is unsure, he'll still call a high tackle free.

Interested in how Selwood would be umpired. Judging from how they usually go, I'm tipping Neale to be pinged for high tackle on Selwood twice.

Nervous excitement building for the game. No real expectation, except that the players put in good effort.

Fyfe to get 30.
Billy 2 goals.
Neale 30.
Cam Mac 2.

Really gusty outside. There's a chance kicking with the wind early might give one team of an advantage while the breeze is still coming from a westerly direction, before it drops off slightly to a southerly change. At least it should keep the ground dry from too much condensation after sunset.

Think Fremantle will win because the amount of possessions Fyfe, Mundy, Neale, Hill, Hill will get should override any dominant patches from Dangerfield and Selwood.

Hope to see big games from Weller, Blakely, Tucker today as they're probably our most important players moving forward into the next generation.

Freo by 20.

On a side note, the difference in confidence levels between our board and the Geelong board is quite funny considering both teams' finishing positions last year.
