Not a fan of Ozzy, NW?

I love his "white line fever" but as CS said, he's going to have to lift his game to get a spot now.

One thing I'm hoping to see this year is players' skills/decision making improving in relation to their confidence with each other.

I have been a big fan in the past of Osborne, he has good skills, great pace, aggression, and a big leap.

Surely that normally equates into automatic selection, especially for us where we have been apparently lacking in all those areas of skill he possesses.

But he doesn't seem to be able to get it together.

He had a couple of really good games last year, and then was a bit up and down. This year i was primed for him to finally step up, same with laddo etc.

The Richmond NAB he played really let me down, because he missed many targets by hand and foot and was basically our worst player. I hope it is a one-off but it really deflated my high hopes I had of him this year.

I definately don't think he's a 22 round box hill player, but the pressure is on him to keep his spot, which is how it should be.

I hope he gets there cause I love his aggression.

Hes ********ing annoying. If he plays football then he goes alright (Carlton game 2005, early year). But he thinks he is a wrestler and constantly gives away 50m penalties and makes us look like ********ers... Plus his defending is quite ordinary at best these days.

I wouldnt play Croad at full back.
He gives away to many free kicks .It doesnt matter if he touches the players or not, the umpires will pay against Trent.

Mummysboy is only good when he is able to get a run up at the ball.
If we can get close body contact on him and fill up the space, all he will do is jump into packs.
There should be enough back to spoil.

Croad to Pav.

My personal opinion, :D would be to play Smith at fullback.Or even Campbell.

I think Croad will be on pavlich and it should be a good match up. But im worrying about Mcpharlin he has the potential to pop up and kick 5, we really need to be able to shut these to forward threats down and have Ozzie and Brown on Farmer and Medhurst. AC should get Ozzie and Brown to fire up mehurst and farmer but not let them get sucked in because we can potentially win a good 6 free kicks out of those 2 small forwards.

Sewell to get one of them.

There is no need to get into those sort of games (sucking in players).
If you keep them kickless, medhurst and epecially farmer, will self-destruct without any help.

What i would do, if i was the freo coach is to try and get trent to fullback.
This will take him (trent) out of the game.
So whoever Trent matches up on lets say Pav at CHF, i would then change Pav to FF.

It all depends on Barks alot.

What I reckon you will see:
Croad v McPharlin - Freo have already indicated big Luke will be their man in the goal square this year.

Jacobs - got to keep using him as the free man in defence rather than making him player accountable, usually on guys bigger and stronger cos we are short of key post options in defence. He gives us so much drive and can take a big saving grab, hope Al uses him wisely, will be awesome this season.

They will try to do this but if they swing three talls forward we will be in trouble and i reckon smith will get the extra tall, most likely to be McPharlin at FF using Jacobs to chop the two deep forwards out

Campbell v Pavlich - Al will give Robbie the huge task to continue his development away from ruck duties, Robbie has never been fitter, stronger or better equipped. Still don't know whether he has enough to combat Pav IMO, Dawson might be a show, otherwise Joel the reliable.

For mine Croad gets Pavlich no questions asked. I reckon Robbie would get his pants pull down if he played on him. I also quite like Dawson on pavlich, particularly if he is playing across CHF he played really well against adelaide and wwas great in the one on ones. I reckon Robbie will played on Longmuir when he goes forward. McPharlin is also to athletic for him

Sewell/Osborne v Farmer/Medhurst - one or the other on either of these two.
Sewell will get farmer no question. He has stitched him up the last couple of times. Medhurst? For mine Ossie should get him but he will be lucky to be selected the rate he is going, Guerra seems the likely first up option

Clarke & Vandenberg - will tag

Agree maybe Vanders on Bell and maybe Clarke to shut down the rebound of M.Carr across halfback? or Black on the wing

Williams - who can stop him? Brilliant this bloke. Freo have to stop supply to him rather than trying to stop him.

No complaints. Though teams were quite effective in stopping him by clogging his hole to lead into and making him lead wide in the latter part of last season, due to our one dimmensional attack, Roughie may fix this a little with his contested marking ability

I don't agree with set positions cause in reality these are rarely played.

FB: SMITH CAMPBELL JACOBS

HB: GUERRA CROAD SEWELL

C: VANDENBERG HODGE BATEMAN

HF: CLARKE FRANKLIN BARKER DIXON

FF: WILLIAMS ROUGHEAD

RUCKS: EVERITT MITCHELL CRAWFORD

INT: LADSON LEWIS TAYLOR YOUNG

In my mind Miller, Guerra, Osborne Dawson and Dixon are fighting for the scraps. Dixon will probably play over Miller if fully fit. Ossie needs to prove again is part of the best 22, Dawson squeezed out. Miller may play if Barks doesn't to add a bit more zip to the forward line. Bailey also may play if spiders hammy doesn't come right.

Clarke and Franklin pushing up the wing with vanders pushing back to allow jacobs to become loose man.

Ladson, Lewis, Taylor, Young all being rotated throug the midfield and wing (Young), expect Crawford Hodge and Bateman and Ladson to push back and used to rebound and set up from across half back. Crawford may also be used in defense. Taylor and Everitt pushing forward at times in a Hille type role.

Other key match ups

Haselby - Hodge
Mitchell - Close Tag
Crawford - J Carr
Ladson - Cook
Lewis ???

I reckon we can beat these blokes if we have a red hot dip, the forward line functions and they don't get on top around the stopages. :thumbsu:

I doubt cook will even get a game to be honest. Dodd and Crowley are much faster, cleaner and hard at it (although not quite as tough as Cook, but who is?). The great thing about this game is the Hawks have seen little of these new players that really came of age after the Hawks blew us away at Subiaco last year. The dockers have a tougher approach in the midfield, Haselby and Bell aren't struggling with injuries as they were and if my memory serves me right Pavlich dislocated his shoulder in that match also and barely had an impact (he did this several times throughout the year).

I think the Freo side will look roughly like this.

Schammer, Haddrill, Parker
Black, Murphy, Mundy

J Longmuir, Haselby, J Carr
Bell, M Carr, Walker

Medhurst, Pavlich, Gilmore
Farmer, McPharlin, Sandilands

Dodd
Crowley
Peake
Headland
Polak
Thornton
Cook

With 3 to be omitted, it's hard to tell who will get a run from a Freo perspective.
