The best sides in the competition have depth to cover that. This is why you're not a Top 4 team.

Take Richmond out of the equation, even with some of those ins, you don't look better than Saints, Pies, Hawks, Dogs, Freo and Cats. Just an opinion.

No team has that much depth to cover an entire spine effectively enough to blow the opponent out of the water (FB, CHB, CHF + FF during the game).

Credit to Richmond though, you did take advantage during the 3rd quarter, that being said, we still won the game via the midfield which I thought may have been a closer battle.

And Tiger supporters need to keep it in perspective as well. We knew you were missing several key players, and we still couldn't get over the line. We are still a bottom 5 side.

Positives

Cotchin came into the game in the second half.

Riwoldt continued his form.

Rance was good in defence. Cannot believe people are having a go at him. The ball didn't clear that area and he was punching all night and also putting his huge body on the line a number of times. I think people don't understand that if Rance wasn't there we would have a Thursfield who wouldn't win some of those contested ground ball situations and would turn into more goals. Very happy with his game.

Grigg Showed he can at least find the ball.

Nahas - We know he doesn't have a heap of quality about him and he is small. However he is the sole reason we got back into the game. He ran the ball from HBF to HFF and we goaled out of it at one stage. Before that we were stagnant and just kicked the ball long to our undersized ruckman.

Vickery Thought he had an half decent game. Not great but looks to be improving.

Negatives

Can we have a game plan on our kick outs. For majority of the first half all we did was bomb long to Warnock v Gus and got dominated. This is horrible and will mean we get flogged this year.

Silly handballs!!! Numerous times on the HBF we would handball all of half a metre to a guy standing next to him. Seriously this is footy 101...the player needs to be at least a coulple of metres away so that the handballer can put on a block and give them a clear run. All that happened by doing this was the ump called play on and the kicker was under pressure. I understand we need to move the ball quick but if it is a shit handball like that just get back off your mark quickly and find an option.

Deledio. Yet again for the third year in a row goes missing in a big round 1 game. I wonder what he is going to be like when we do eventually play finals. Think he is wasted on the HBF and should be added to the midfield in replacement of Edwards.

Edwards was killing me last night. SOmetimes looks so pure dodging blokes and kicking long to a target. But where he falls down is dinky little kicks that go 10m. He actually kicked straight to Hampson about 5 metres in front of him last night and turned into a goal. Play him as a FP.

DEFENSIVE SWEEPER PLEASE - Not sure what Hardwick or the midfield coach was smoking in the box, but is was obvious all night that Murphy or Gibbs were sitting out the back of the pack getting the ball and then deliver. We don't have to tag them but when we set up for a ruck contest can we please at least have someone standing there....poor coaching imo.

Yes, but encouraging considering Cotchin (for most of it), Deledio and Martin all had poor games. 3 of our best were quiet and we still managed to find a way to be in the game and even take the lead.

Really liked what I saw from the '10 draft class. Very impressed by Reece's second half. Was an absolute cool head in the back 50 and his ability to tread water while the defense bears down looking for an option is first class. Helbig came home strong, thought he ran out the game really well. Threw his body into the contest when the game was in the balance.

Nahas was instrumental in the third, one of his runs was a turning point in the second half and breaking lines. Not a big Nahas fan at all but I don't think he can be discredited for his performance last night.

We don't work anywhere near hard enough when the ball comes out of our forward 50, teams spread hard against us and we zone too casually. It was our problem against Adelaide in the preaseson, was our problem last night and has been our problem for years. The boys don't work hard enough when the ball turns. We need to work much harder to lock the ball in our 50, Kingy will help with this next week, but as a whole our offensive pressure is horrible.

Coming out of defense was in issue too, we persisted with the long kick to the flank and Gus just isn't going to win one out against Warnock, Hampson and a bunch of blokes going up for the ball. A few times we took it from the feet of the pack and broke but more often than not they would gain possession and just keeping putting it back in.

Deledio is wasted talent at HBF he should be your prime mover in the midfield and leading the way.

What i don't understand is why Hardwick left him there when he clearly was having no influence and barely getting the footy while your midfield was getting smoked?

Lids is a great player but the Wallace and now Hardwick HBF perma thing is wearing thin, its time to unleash him to the midfield.

Selecting Foley when he was ill - beyond comprehension.

Good game. I liked the look of Nahas, from what I've gathered he's quite maligned by the Richmond board in general.

Yeah seems under-rated by them. Not sure why, not sure really what's expected of him. He'll have his hand in a couple of cheeky goals normally, tucked the ball under his arm & took you guys on last night as well.

Deledio & Morton both looked like they needed the hitout, both hesitant. Cotchin great in patches missing in others. Martin scratchy.
Those 4 should work into it a bit.

Rance was OK (as was McGuane). Not super, but each held their man pretty solidly so did their job.

One good quarter doesn't make up for 3 bad quarters.

Defensively we were horrible last night out kick outs again make me squirm.

We didn't take the game on enough, when we did we were good. Nahas had to show the way out of all people.

Every time we got the ball in the forward we looked dangerous just couldnt get it in there enough.

Watching from the G' last night, we were lucky at carltons inaccuracy could of been 40 point loss easy.

We defiantly needed one more midfield player tonight so i think dimma got that wrong.

Let's hope the midfield can improve by next week!

Seriously need to put Lids back in the action, HB is just becoming a waste of his talent IMO we have other guys who can cover this position such as Connors. I'd like to see Webberley get a gig at HB also.

Cotchin's i50s were beautiful but few and far between.

Dustin Dont Argue Martin should've been used inside a bit more when we were dominating the clearances.

White good, Jack did what Jack had to do playing on our White and Thornton.

Morton did what he usually does against us, well held by Laidler later in the match though.


In summary, you guys showed heart and proved how damaging you can be on the attack, but still lack the quality or progression of your youngsters to sustain the positives or overcome more mature sides with arguably equal/better midfields.

And we had 2 guys make their debut in the backline. There were positives no doubt, but we shouldn't view the game with rose coloured glasses. I actually hope there's minimal change over the next three weeks just to solidify the group and try and get some consistency. The only thing that is making me cranky is the selection of Foley if he was buggered from gastro. Hurt the structures.

I understand your frustration, but i think that's the least of our worries. The guys will have been told, in particular after the Crows praccy game, to move the ball on at all costs. That quick unexpected handball is what is needed at times to wake guys up to the fact that they can't stand still... be on your bike and expect the handball! Quick ball movement will be one of the biggest keys to our improvement over the year. Next time someone goes back off the mark and takes 10sec to then take the third or fourth option, as you're yelling at them to move it on, remember this

I think the Tigers are in for a much better year and if you can find one more Forward that is equally dangerious to rewoldt you will win games like last night. One more key forward and experience, then you will see a majour rise up the ladder.

was very impressed with the young Tigers last night, for mine it is the most talented Richmond side since 1995. Do not be discouraged, your cubs have just as much upside as the Dees, another season of development and they will be ready for the finals, good luck for the rest of the season

yep totally agree he is just a dirty player. McGuane better not get anything from punching him back, hell you think the match review panel could understand how pissed of getting kicked in the nuts makes you.

And before that, in a marking contest, he deliberately slammed his knees into Angus Graham's back. A gutless effort and he ended up getting precisely what he deserved.
