SA squad: Travis Head (c), Wes Agar, Jake Carder, Alex Carey, David Grant, Henry Hunt, Sam Kerber, Jake Lehmann, Nathan McAndrew, Lloyd Pope, Jake Weatherald, Nick Winter, Dan Worrall.

WA squad: Shaun Marsh (C), Cameron Bancroft, Hilton Cartwright, Cameron Gannon, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Matt Kelly, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, Corey Rocchiccioli, Josh Philippe, Sam Whiteman.

No room for recruit Ryan Gibson. Surely this is Lehmann's last chance saloon with the Spiders.

WA has a very strong attack. Good balance with left armer Paris added. Glad to see the return of Jhye Richardson. My Ashes smokie.

Jhye has been left out. No explanation as to why yet... God I hope it's not another complication with his shoulder.

I'm pretty surprised that Morris is playing ahead of Gannon. Also surprised that Nielsen is behind Lehmann after being the 3rd highest run scorer in the Shield last year.

Just came in here to talk about Travis Head still thinking he's an all-rounder when he shouldn't even be considered a part-time bowler. I see you guys are all over it though.

Pope turned a couple in that over at least. Head must have been working on his arm ball. Only ones he turned were that ones that nearly bounced twice and got spanked for four.

Our curator describes these early season wickets where there hasn't been much sun (deck doesn't harden, grass coverage still sparse) as "poopers"

Soft with no bounce, no pace, usually no turn, don't deteriorate. Batters don't like them, bowlers don't like them, spectators don't like them.

Unfortunately Karen Rolton Oval seems to stay like this for the whole season

We like his batting (well I do anyway). He just thinks he can bowl when there's a lot of evidence that suggests he can't.
A left hand batsman just needs to drive past the oval for him to hand his cap to the umpire

I don't understand this

Grant had just taken a wicket and was troubling Marsh around the wicket + a new batter at the crease. Bowls 3 overs after lunch and then is taken off for Sam Kerber's left arm orthodox nudes?
Maybe switch of ends?

You're right, he has switched ends. Still seems strange, he was looking dangerous at the other end.

Kerber is getting smashed. 0/31 after 3.3 overs. Bowls absolute darts. People find him hard to score off in grade cricket but he's a limited bowler imho

Yeah I'm not seeing it here. Looks like another Tom Andrews.

Joe Medew-Ewan maybe?
