B: Woj, Scarlett, Milburn
HB: Mackie,Taylor,Enright
C: Corey, Bartel, Selwood
HF: Rooke, Lonergan, Johnson
F: Chapman, Hawkins, Gamble

Fol: Ottens, Ablett, Ling

Int: Varcoe, Blake, Kelly, Stokes

Rooke on Hodge
Ling on Mitchell
Taylor start on who ever is CHF (buddy or roughead)
Scarlett start on who ever is FF

If mooney fit then he may come into side. If hodge sits under the ball then Hawkins to crash the pack and make hodge feel it - ala the FF's of the 90 eg. ablett snr crashing some poor sop. As legal as possible but as much contact as possible.

Woj to give some more run out of defense to try and get the zone out of position.

Seems a good assessment, a likely line up and a few starting positions. Cannot see inexperienced players coming in - so Wojo or D. Johnson will most likely replace the very unfortunate Hunt. Given Wojo seems to not have had much of a pre-season DJ might still get the gig. Either player should do ok down back for Geelong.

As the season goes on we will discover who Thompson favours as Hunt's replacement. DJ is a solid defensive player and Wojo brings pace to a side considered a little slow. Therefore I think he offers a little more when it comes to the pointy end of the season.

You want a guy with questionable fitness and an issue with accurate kicking to crash packs? I would have thought that'd be the quickest way to tire yourself, and effect both of those areas?

No but what he cant do as a leading forward is allow a guy to sit in the hole 10-20m in front of him and cut off every kick forward with out making him earn it. And lets be honest he is 197cm and 100kg he is not forward we only want to be good on the lead but also take the game by the scruff ala J.Brown.

As a team we also need an option (bail out) to kick to in a contested/pack situation that will ensure the ball is brought to ground if not marked, either Hawkins or Mooney, as we cant pin point a team mate every time and I would back gamble, stokes, johnson, chappy, vacoe, ablett with the ball on the ground in a contested situation.

Thompson said in the paper the other day that Mooney was going to be playing so that would probably see Moons at FF as he is also lacking fitness.

Lonergan and Hawkins to both play. Lonergan will play down back on Roughhead.

Who's Taylor going to play on then? Rioli?

Was watching my copy of the 2007 Qualifying final yesterday, and was watching with interest how we made Archer very accountable in that game by having him one out with his opponent, who was either Chapman, Stokes, or even Byrnes at one stage, to stop him from going third man up in contests. Do you think we could do a similar thing with Hodge next week?

Isnt that what everyone tries anyway? Hodge runs the backline on his terms and teams let him. How can you not, its almost impossible not to let him. He goes wherever he wants.

There are tactics. Most extreme is to make his opponent lead deep into pockets or up on the wing just to take Hodge out of play.

FFS. Hodge isn't this unbeatable player that Dawks supporters make out. For a guy who apparently is the be all and end all of a football player, his trophy cabinet is very bare.

Spot on. Maybe they pushed Hodge out of the midfield because they didn't want him to do stuff like this again.

**** I love you Steve Johnson. He would have done that (play on and have a lazy snap) with 3 mins to go in the Grand Final, although he might have mixed it up and gone onto his left boot instead. Classic Dog.

woj in my mind has to play on friday!!! if he doesnt what about rooke on cyril??

Read my mind. Rooke to shut down Cyril. although my first preference would still be D. Johnson if he's fit. He is as close to replacing Hunt as you can get, right down to the chrome dome and height! Then let Chappy do what he does best to Hawthorn (remember Rd 17 before his hammy?), which will make Hodge accountable.
The only reason Hodge got away with being loose in the GF was because we didn't convert. He would have tightened up considerably had just 1 of our forwards stepped up! That will NEVER happen again.
If Taylor and Scarlett hold Franklin and Roughead to under 8 goals total, we win.
The key to Hawthorn is make them play out ogf their comfort zone. Hodge alluded to it today. He said that because of the strictness of their set-ups and zones and style of play they can pretty much replace any player from the magoos. Break down their cluster with scoreboard pressure (the 1 missing ingredient on GF day) and they will explode like dancing Fem-Bots!

Rioli Ruffy Dew
Enright Taylor D Johnson,
Osborne Buddy Williams
Bartel Corey Selwood
Tuck Sewell Young
Chapman Gamble Rooke
Brown Hodge Birchall
Stokes Lonergan S Johnson
Guerra Murphy Morton
Ottens Ablett Ling
Campbell Bateman Mitchell
Blake, Kelly, Hawkins, Varcoe,
Taylor, Stokes,Thorp, Whitecross
Emergency; Tenace Hogan Wojcinski

Hawks by 22 points. Hawks have Geelong covered in most areas, Hawks forward line a tad too quick and versatile for the cats defence.

Hawks mid sized defence works in their favor, Croad & Gilham not necessarily missed. Thorp to come off bench as spare big man back or forward. McGlynn may well play instead of Whitecross. Ether way only players really missing for Hawks would be Lewis, Ellis & Ladson. Croad & Gilham not necessarily big losses

Ripper game.
