Well the season is just about to start. Everyone in the Media, opposition supporters & even some Magpie supporters are tipping the pies to fail in 2007 & finish bottom 4.

I personally think that is just a ridiculous thought & just like last year we will surprise. I have no doubt that top 4 is a real possibility & definite improvement on last year. Below is my round 1 team & players in bold are the ones that I think will step up, to make us improve on last year.

Lockyer Presti Maxwell

H Shaw Clement johnson

Pendelbury Swan Davis

Thomas Cloke Buckley

Medhurst Rocca Fraser

Rucks: Richards Obree Licuria

Inter: Burns Egan Bryan Lonie

At Willi:

Brown, Obrien, Reid, R Shaw, Goldsack, Wakelin, IIles (although could replace lonie), Davies, Cox, Toovey

Injured/suspension: Didak (Rnd 6 I think), Holland (Rnd 6), Rusling (Dont rate him, no impact this season), Dawes (Season), Anthony (Rnd 2)

I think we are in for a big year & I cant wait to stick it up all the Collingwood haters out there & we all know that there is alot of PIE ENVY!!!

how many players stepped up last year? how about the year before??

do you really think that 10 players will step up this year? you've almost bolded every player that didnt have a good season last year.

If Iles plays as a first 18 back pocket ahead of Lonie, Maxwell or Rhyce Shaw, I will vomit.

I like the look of your team but just a couple of queries. Malthouse has elevated Rhyce Shaw to the leadership squad and i am certain he will play round one.
Guy richards is a total hack. I would prefer bryan rucking with a bit of fire and physical presence.
I reckon wakes will play as mick likes to play clement as a rebounding backman and maxy as a spare man hence wakes and presti take opposition talls.
I also think benny johnson should play midfeild to add some pace. My team is very similar to yours with a couple of changes.

I'm not adverse to him being in the 22 (personally I don't think he is) but if he is picked ahead of two of the blokes in the leadership group, then I will be vomiting.

Well I think they will all play. I however don't think R.Shaw is an automatic inclusion for round 1. He'd be more an off-field leader.

Just realised I missed Racer.

Also, i put Iles in the back pocket not based on exactly a starting 18 (best 18), but simply because my defence was taller with Maxwell, and Iles will play out of the back pocket, in round one...we think.

If I was to put Rhyce in, may get in ahead of Medhurst (may still have a niggle, may not be in our best 22 just yet!)

Why is that? Rhyce Shaw is my Buddy. Aside from that, I don't think we can afford not to pick Rhyce: He's got leg speed that we desperately need. He's in the leadership group and plays for the jumper, which far outways the negatives IMO.

If you tell me he doesn't have the ability, that would be garbarge. He was probably one of the better players (from our side) in the Elimination final against the Dogs - never stopped trying and lived up to the attitude of his namesake on that day.

He would be one of the first players picked each week to be honest.

A fully fit Rhys Shaw is easily in our best 22 (18)

I really believe that with our 5th spot after h & W last year we can improve & here is why:

Players such as Lockyer (I think he looks great so far in pre season), Rocca (second half poor due to shoulder injury & little pre-season), Licuria (never right off a champion). These experinced players will step up!

Then we have the likes of Maxwell, H Shaw, Johnson, Swan, Davis, Fraser, Pendelbury, Thomas, T Cloke & Egan who all showed eithier great from or great potential.

It would be ridiculous to suggest all of these players to have an outstanding season, but I believe that most will improve!!

We have a great defence with Presti, Clement, Wakelin & Maxwell.

I believe our midfield will improve with Johnson, Shaw & Shaw, Pendles, Obree, Holland, Swan & Davis to play in there. Add in Burns & lica for toughness.

Then our forward line of Rocca, Cloke, Fraser, Bucks, Didak, Thomas, Egan & Medhurst we have enough fire power to worry teams.

My big concern is the Ruck with Richards (not really happy with him) & Bryan (the jury is out still). If they can put up a contest then we will be fine.

I dont care what the negative comments regarding the pies are, but I know that the pies are always judged harsly & that we can shove it up all the critics.

My prediction with a good run of injuries is top 4 & then we can do some damage.15 MCG games.. U BEAUTY!!!
