mattner in a back pocket!!! he left adelaide because he wanted OUT of defence
mcveigh on a wing ... why not play him even wider - in the stands???

at least jack, moore, bird and grundy will play
but barlow is an emergency, why????
and mathews is also an emergency
so i guess there's reason to look ahead

B: Kennelly, Barry, Mattner.
HB: C Bolton, R-Thomson, Jack.
C: McVeigh, Kirk, Buchanan.
HF: O’Keefe, O’Loughlin, J Bolton.
F: Bird, Hall, Grundy.
FOL: Jolly, Goodes, Moore.
INT: Ablett, Bevan, Davis, Richards.
EMG: Barlow, Brennan, Mathews

I too put up my hand to be a bit suprised the big Cheese has not been named in the 22. Mattner needs to play further up the ground than the back pocket if we are going to get any drive through the wings H/F flank.

we've got mcveigh on a wing
if what leo has said in recent press, mcveigh is expected to be freed up to run a bit more this season, which allegedly will suit him
i guess he's gonna get the chance, so i wish him well
but barlow should be in the 22 and mattner should be further up the field, you're dead right

Coaches never actually put the players in the proper positions. Look at Essendon with Lucas named in a back pocket and McPhee at CHF. Silly.

I reckon it will line up something like this:

B: Bevan, C Bolton, Jack.
HB: Kennelly, LRT, Barry.
C: Mattner, Kirk, Goodes.
HF: O’Keefe, Hall, Ablett.
F: Moore, Davis, J Bolton.
FOL: Jolly, Buchanan, Bird.
INT: Ablett, Grundy, Richards, McVeigh.
EMG: Barlow, Brennan, Mathews

Me too.

Didn't get to see him in the practice match, so it'll be fun. Here's hoping he rips it up :D

Ohh okay, so Richards is playing after he didn't even play a game (minus the one he played just last week). Glad to see that Roosy is finally choosing form over repuatation, unlucky for Benny but its great to see Bird, Jack and Moore in the side.

A bit disappointed that Ed Barlow isn't getting the chance to play Round One.

But we're not too sure if Ablett and Richards will definitely be playing. Hope they do, though, and its a shame that Barlow didn't get a run in, but nothings definite till matchday.

Wouldn't it be great to see him rack up 24 touches, takes 6 marks and lays 5 tackles. And yes, he kicks the winning goal. I know I'm dreaming but imagine if it came true. ;)

Lets just hope he contirubtes and we get up.
He is the best looking Bird the Swans team have seen in a long time.

Maybe, Ted Richards & Luke Ablett aren't certainties to play and Barlow has a chance to play, hopefully!

I hope your right, but I still cant see the reasoning behind not naming in the first 18 from the get go. Everyone I've spoken to, including Jude Bolton, reckons the only thing he needs is self-belief. Leaving him in the rooms
is hardly going to instill it.

I don't think Teddy's going to play, though. In an article I read yesterday it said that he was pretty iffy.
I think we have serious match up problems if he does not. Gehrig and Kozi playing up front for the saints means without teddy were going to struggle to match them up for height and strength, particulry if Roberts Thompson is going to spend some time in the ruck.

I know.

We have to compromise on something, though. I'd rather Teddy was in than out, but having Reg in would be good too. Barlow got a long run of sorts last year, so I'm not too fussed if he misses a couple of games this year.
If McHack keeps underperforming and Ed's kept out i'll be fuming.
