Round 1 v Bullants

B. B Maynard ~ J Roughead ~ J Noble
HB. J Crisp ~ D Moore ~ J Howe
C. T Phillips ~ S Sidebottom ~ C Mayne
HF. J De Goey ~ B Mihocek ~ J Stephenson
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ W Hoskin-Elliott
R. B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury ~ T Adams
I. R Wills ~ J Thomas ~ C Brown ~ J Daicos

E. D Cameron, M Keane, J Madgen, T Brown

as I see the selection committee will go with, and to challenge a bit, who they will also name as emergencies.

Assuming Adams does play.

(For what it’s worth, I’d select, Scharenberg and Sier instead of Noble, Wills, but that’s just me.
I’d also name Murphy as an emergency instead of Madgen. Won‘t happen but that’s what I’d do.)

Interesting that we're playing Preston first up! (Nice one Saint) ;)

We better Turn Up to Play.

Cameron has to play ahead of Cox.

I would not Shocked IF WHE and Stepenson start in the VFL.

Sier/Rantall be ahead of Wills.
I am not saying I disagree with you, but I think the selectors will not drop WHE and Stephenson, or play Cameron ahead of Cox or Sier/Rantall ahead of Wills.
You sure you're not?! It does kind of read like you are! And I think you'll be right with pretty much all of that. It would be staggering if they dropped Stephenson, surprising if Hoskin-Elliott went out, and Cox is likely to start in the team, but will need to do something early on this year to keep Cameron at bay. I'm a fan of Sier (and want him in the side as soon as possible), but he probably hasn't done enough to displace Wills at this stage of the year, and Rantall would be a very surprising selection ahead of more experienced types.

I tread carefully when I anticipate Dave giving me the 'dislike' downturned thumb symbol!

I would play Sier over Wills after his VFL game on the weekend.

Sier was tagged in the VFL game I don’t think Wills has ever been tagged.

By the way I like Wills but my preference is Sier.
I don't mind if they do go that way, but I'm just trying to guess what the selectors will do, rather than pick "my own" team! I'm not really a fan of Wills; Sier can give us so much more if he gets things right.

It's just logical to me that most of the players who were established in a team that narrowly missed a Grand Final spot last year will start in the side this year. If the likes of Cox, Hoskin-Elliott and Thomas don't show improved form pretty soon they should be in trouble. I always find it a bit disappointing if we don't have a debutant in our Rd. 1 team, but T. Brown may miss out, and Cameron probably will as well.

I agree with you re Sier particularly now I know he was tagged. By the same token, I think the selectors will pick Wills.

Can’t blame you.
Sier is the (far) better play and has (far) more scope than Wills.

Wills is a worker bee, Sier is a worker bee with far more buzz.

(All of the above is just my view; Sier projects as a better than average type, Wills sits As pure medium level at best.)

Nothing I was hoping he would push for a spot.

The only 2 blokes who were not regular 22 from late last year pushing for selection are Daicos and Cameron

Really disappointed that we didn't have many blokes put pressure on the regular 22.
Tyler at least has another 3 seasons on the list to start imposing himself though. He clearly came from a fair way back when he was drafted.

Tylers core strength is what is holding back ATM, no so much his upper body, you can be slim and still be good but would be moved to easily off the ball without that core strength

We match them in inside 50’s we win. Simple.
I’m not sold on their forward line. Roughy & Moore will shut down Schache & Bruce I’m pretty confident on that, don’t think their small forwards are too dangerous. Midfield is a huge battle though because theirs is star-studded, if Grundy can dominate English like last year should go a long way in ascending the midfield battle our way. Don’t like that it’s at Marvel though.

I think we'll see a very different English this year. He'll do better at the ruck contests and his work around the ground will really start to impact. Coming off a disrupted preseason so an early match up might work in our favour.

OK, so Buckley's comments after the match that he was OK and it was just his normal post-game icing was not correct?

Or maybe it was and he'll play next week.

If Thomas is selected then I’m putting $100 on the woofers.
And I don’t bet!

Agree his numbers dropped of in 2019,

Avg goals 2018: 1.5 - 2019: 1
Avg Tackles: 2018: 3 - 2019: 2.3
Avg Dis: 2018:16 - 2019:14

Haven't seen enough in the preseason to suggest he's anywhere near returning to his 2018 numbers.
