As a life-long Pies supporter, and a devotee of our great game, I've got to say I'm as flat as I've ever been ahead of a season opener. Flat as a tack.

I just can't seem to get enthused about the prospect of us playing, not when there is so much bad news in the world - share market crashing, wiping out a lot of people's super; jobs for many of us impacted (people forced to work part time or even thrown out of work). Not to mention panic buying at supermarkets and people's genuine health concerns for themselves and their loved ones.

I don't know. I just feel a game of football is so TRIVIAL against all that.

I'll still watch though, but with a sense of dread/academic interest to see what the game looks like with no crowds, and God forbid, how the over-hyped TV commentators cope.

It will all bounce back, life will continue and you may see things differently with a new flag.

My take on the exchange was Eddie wasn't lying.

You didn't mention in your post that 5 minutes before Gill's presser, Robbo read out a tweet from the AFLPA to its members, saying Rd 1 was definitely going ahead. After hearing what Robbo read out, Eddie to me sounded genuinely relieved/excited and I thought that he really thought it was going to be a 50/50 call.
