Gowers averaged 16 touches and kicked 4 goals total last year in the VFL.

What role is he going to play in our AFL side?

Not sure where you got those stats from but he kicked 17.23 last year in the VFL. He will play as a medium marking forward.

For those bemoaning Honey's spot in the side it's worth noting that GWS offered him a contract at the end of last season to go and play for them as a defensive small forward. So he could quite easily be lining up against us on the weekend, and it wouldn't mean GWS are crap. If he can play his role he might find a niche in the AFL yet.

I would’ve preferred he was lining up for them tomorrow!

Roughy won't play tomorrow.

inside info? - who replaces him then?

Also poor form from certain members of the men's list who did not attend the women's grand final today.

Is this your opinion or have you heard something - I assume at least half our squad would have already been in Canberra.

What’s with all the negativity about just about anything on here st the moment. Can’t recall it as bad, this early, with no games played. It’s really putting me off reading anything on here.

It’s honestly disgusting. There’s not swallowing everything the club gives you and there’s being a totally negative princess. Does anybody on this board actually enjoy football?

So excited to see the dogs again this year. Have a great feeling about the culture Beveridge is still building and he deserves our patience.

Seems to be pretty set on having every mid be able to play forward and make us totally unpredictable. Different poison every week. Lots of flexibility in this side for problem solving and lots of bodies to throw at the pill and tackle.

Pumped to see how Naughton and English go, and Wood up forward!

Before round 1 I’m usually excited. It’s more nerves today because none of us have any idea what to expect.

Like many others, I'm surprised by the patchwork team selection, which seems to reflect our strange approach to trading and list management.

We traded in two players whose preferred positions were already pretty well covered, and now we are seemingly pushing the incumbents forward to accommodate the new comers.

The Honeychurch and Gowers selections make some sort of sense to me. Gowers being the only tallish specialist forward in a team overflowing with defenders and mid fielders.

And Honeychurch brings something that was lacking last year. Commitment!!
For our game plan to work we need fanatical commitment and if he is showing it then he is worthy of selection.

English's selection suggests that there are other plans in place for either Roughead, Trengove or both.

The Williams selection is the main head scratcher for me. How many half back flankers can we play in one team? Perhaps Bev is going for an unofficial record, to brag about at the next coaches association meeting.

Gowers is hardly tallish.

186 cm

Ok excitement is building. Can't wait to watch the game. I'm not sure we can win, but have a feeling in the water that something is up. Might be just a few too many reds last night. Stay tuned, go Dogs let's cap off another premiership weekend with a great win against the odds, inspired by the Woofettes.
