Don't be surprised if Chambers gets the job to run with Wells. Sure, he doesn't have the sublime skills as Wells, but can stay close to him with pace and definitely has the endurance

That makes sense. Would probably be my pick.

Still believe the Fevola/Whitnall/DeLuca triple act will be too much for the Kangas to hold.

If we can't get close to holding them, we will finish dead last. As I have said, Fev will kick goals but Whitnall and De Luca won't worry too many teams this year. Better not be us......

Fevola/DeLuca/Whitnall/Waite will worry most defenses this year and create match up problems for North. Whitnall is in form, kicking 2 a game, creating more and will play well this year barring injury.

Fev - Watt (shudder....)
Whitnall - Brown/Colbert
DeLuca - Colbert/Brown
Waite - Pratt (gun)/Perry

We will cover it IF the midfield works back, pressures and fills gaps as yours will.

21 yo defender. We picked him as a 17yo in 2001 (?). Laidley delisted him due to attitide issues, went to Brisbane. Played a few games there last year. We got him back.

Very good footballer.

I haven't got a good feeling about this one. Missing Thorton is a huge loss. He is pure class. Chambers would have been valuable. They always play well against us. It'll be close but I suspect to Roos may just get across the line. Hope I'm wrong. Should be a good game though. :)

You always have a bad feeling Parrot, and lucky for us, you're always wrong. :D

if last years 2 games are anything to go by it will be definately a lot closer than some of the initial posts have suggested.

watt on fevola is the only match up i can see that is heavily weighted in carlton's favour.

everything else would appear break even or no-more than 10 % in favour of either team.

the match will be determined by how many kangaroos midfielders work back behind play and help colbert, brown and WATT out. if they do that well, kangaroos will win, if not blues will get over the line.

Carlton appear very confident which is something i like the look of, as i can't remember the last time they won a match they were expecting to win??? to all roos fans... doesn't that sound familiar?

I hope u play an underdone chambers on wells also.... should be a laugh... at least that will give us a chance!

i wouldn't be expecting to win any game with an average backline that is missing its best player + having the skipper, houla, norman, chambers underdone, but if that's what u think, then go for it.

even to 3/4 time, then kangas to kick away... awaiting the 'hardness' we've been promised to return. flip side is fevola could kick 14 and you'll win by 10 goals but 6-9 more likely and he'll need to in order for you to win.

I guess I should straighten a few things out. Chambers won't play, he'll miss this one and be back for the bummers. Norman's not underdone. He did suffer a bit of pine time in the Wok, but he's fully fit and played a couple of games for the Bullants. I expect him to get more game time in Thornton's absence. Houlihan's not underdone, he played all the Wok matches, so match fitness isn't an issue. He did jar his knee on Monday but it's fine now. Kouta's trained well all week and has come up fine. He'll play. On the upside, Waite is back. you'll probably say "Who's Waite?", well he's a fitter, faster, taller Aaron Hamill type who normally gathers 15 possesions, 8 marks, 5 tackles and 2 goals. Go on, underate him.. :)

nah i rate waite... very good player in the S johnson mould. silky for a biggish bloke. same as fisher. good hands, good footy smarts, can play. shame bout knee.

our backline will be severely tested as will yours if as many have suggested the midfield is about even. i'm not so sure i think we have greater depth but u have n stevens and we don't. GUN.

knowing pagan he will have the usual clamps applied to harvey and grant. can't do it to wells, too good. simpson doesn't hurt anyone so better off letting him get it 30 times rather than grant/harvey/wells.

both teams have pretty decent top 10 players but where it will be won is the 2nd and 3rd tier. i think we have more depth but then again who knows?

fevola wells
stevens grant
lappin harvey
kouta simpson
campo brown
big red (motlop)
houla rawlings
scotland colbert
(thornton) makepeace
sporn Thomson

should be a decent match between 2 teams with no chance of winning the premiership this year. fighting it out for 8th spot maybe 6-7 with good run of injuries. more likely 9-12 both teams. whoever is harder will win.

I agree it should be a great game and a fair indication of where both teams sit within the comp . I am tipping a blues win on the basis of their new found confidence after winning the whizzer cup ..after all winning form is good form

You know more about footy than you leed on....

Its going to be a great game i just hope whichever way it goes its 20 plus points. The last couple of years watching chewing my finger nail to bits with so much nervousness. Why do these teams bring it right down to the wire, its enthralling but i don't know how much more i can take.
Go Roos

Carlton by 12-36.

Suspect there will be a lot of stoppages and a lot of quick movement of the ball.

Whichever team can make better use of the quick movement will win, and I suspect that will be us.

Confident start to the year for a team brimming with confidence (and hopefully not arrogance).

From what I've seen, wouldn't McGrath be a chance to tag Wells ? He performed a few run-with roles last year and he would certainly have the pace to shadow Wells all day...

I suspect it will be either McGrath or Bannister to take Wells with the other to take Harvey (he always kicks our arse). Both are fast players, but Bannister has the extra endurance and extra height that makes him our best tagger.

Quite frankly I don't really care how good or how fast the Roos midfield is, it's gonna be the same situation as with West Coast. If sides can be harder, tougher, more efficient and more accountable than the opposition, they'll win the midfield battle. I'm not referring to stats mind you. West Coast had more of the pill in the WC final, but their delivery was crap compared to ours.

Having said all that, there are freaks in the AFL who can turn a game off their own boot. Judd is one such player and Wells is another. Looking back, you guys really got him for a song.

Really hoping Pagan plays Eddie Betts. He may have only kicked 3 in his first 2 games, but he was involved in at least 3 other assists. Very smart player around goals, sensational skills, and having forwards like Fev and Whitnall will be a huge advantage to him. Just adds another dimension to our forward line. On the subject of forwards, Davies has taken his game to a new level this year. Very laid back, sometimes does silly things, but has enormous talent and footy smarts. Always seems to be calm, and backs himself even under huge pressure. Set up several goals against the Weagles. His defensive work in the forward line has really improved. Waite's inclusion is big plus. Gotta love the way this guy attacks the footy. 100% intensity. Remember him applying a punishing tackle on McLean in the Wizard cup which resulted in a goal.

Feeling pretty nervous about his game. This game, along with a few others against the Pies, Dees and Dons are games we should win, but we haven't had a good record of late in the games that 'we should win" e.g. against the Dogs last year. There just seems to be so many more dimensions to each of the Blues lines in 2005. Hard not to optomistic about the future. You can see Pagan's wrapped with his side. Having 2 gun forwards is a luxury not many teams in the comp have, and will be a huge advantage if we make the finals. :)
