This is my side to play round 1 vs North Melbourne

F Schuback Carey Welsh

hf S Stevens Perrie Johncock

c Reilly Ricciuto Burton

hb Edwards Mcgregor Smart

b Hart Bassett torney

ruck Biglands Mcleod Goodwin

inc bode Stengline massie hudson

emer Clarke Burns shirley doughty

I can't imagine Clarke missing out on selection. I think Hudson will have to bide his time until Biglands or Clarke suffer an injury or have a series of poor games.

****

I think Clarke is a certainty. Hudson will probably go back to SANFL. Schuback played well on the weekend but I am not sure he has stitched it up yet. Hentschel will most probably play in Round 1 and so he should.

My view:

F Johncock Carey Welsh

HF S Stevens Perrie Burton

C Reilly Ricciuto Doughty

HB Massie McGregor Stenglien

B Hart Bassett Edwards

Ruck Biglands Mcleod Goodwin

Int Clarke Smart Hentschel Bode

Emer Hudson Schuback Shirley Torney

PS: A number of positions may swap around - eg. S Stevens for Hentschel.

I like this line-up. Burton and Stiffy might swap around a bit up forward, but it's got a fair bit of flexibility all round.

Best effort so far IMO.

B: Hart, Bassett, Edwards
HB: Smart, McGregor, Massie
C: Doughty, Ricciuto, Reilly
HF: S Stevens, Perrie, Johncock
F: McLeod, Carey, Welsh
R: Biglands, Stenglein, Goodwin
I: Clarke, Hentschel, Burton, Gallagher
E: Hudson, Torney, Schuback

he will start leading the ruck in round 1.
No doubt Clarke & Biglands will be selected in round 1, but geez it good that we have another ruckman keeping them honest.

... for those doubting my judgement of getting rid of that softy from West. ;)

How about the line-up in the paper today? No mention of Massie, even in the emergencies. Would have though he ahead or at the worst equal to Torney, based on pre-season preparations??

This is what I think it will be - not what I want it to be

F Stevens Welsh Bode

HF Johncock Carey McLeod

C Burton Ricciuto Reilly

HB Edwards McGregor Massie

B Hart Bassett Hentschell

Ir Clarke Goodwin Stenglein

Int: Biglands Perrie Smart Doughty

Em: Torney Gallagher Hudson

Its good we have a fair bit of depth with all three emergenices being unlucky in my view as well as Schuback and Shirley.

Bode is proabably lucky given his pre-season form.

Well i dunno if im biased here but surely on pre season form Gallagher is a walk up start on the back flank?? well anyways heres my team.

FF: Welsh Carey Skipworth
HF: Bode Perrie Johncock
C: Reilly Ricciuto Burton
HB: Gallagher Mcgregor Massie
FB: Hart Bassett Edwards

Ruck: Clarke Goodwin Mcleod

Bench: Biglands Hentschel S.Stevens Stenglein

Emerg: Hudson Smart Torney

I know Doughty played well for the last 2 pre season games but Burton is class and best value to us on the wing and Reilly has the other wing booked up for the next 10 years or so lol. Smart was unlucky to miss out but as previously said Gags on pre season form is a walk up start, and well Massie has played pretty well to so there we go thats the team IMO.

There is no way in hell that Gallagher will be selected before Smart.

agree with this. Smarty would be in ahead of Gags even though I think he is a good player.

Thanks macca23.

The selections I was mulling over were - possibly Gallagher in place of Bode, and Doughty is only there "on probation" & the strength of his last two games.

Have to agree with you again.

Gallagher's form is currently marginally better than Bode's, but I think the signal that Bode will play in the opener is that they rested him against Port.

Doughty has given it a real crack in the last 2 games and should be played while he's on the rise as he looks back to his very best form of 2002 - with a bit of mental toughness thrown in as well.

I know 2 games are not much to go on when there are a few players pushing for his spot BUT I was genuinely (pleasently) surprised by Dogga's commitment against Port. He went in hard and didn't back away from winning the hard ball which is something I have been a bit concerned and critical in the past. He genuinely played like a bloke whose AFL career depended on it. Got plenty of the ball, used it well and went in hard.

If he continues to play like he did in the last 2 games he will play every game this year. Maybe keeping Doughty wasn't such a bad idea after all. ;)

But then why play Bode in the SANFL this WE after resting him against Port???

They said that he would have played if it was a home and away game - maybe I am reading too much into that.

I still think he would be a whisker in front of Gallagher, even though Gags has slightly the better form.

But I've been wrong before. :)

If Bode plays the selectors are a joke as his form has been ordinary. He needs to go back & play with the Bays & find some form & realign his attitude. I want players giving 100% for the Crows & there are more deserving players (eg. Schuey) I would pick before Bode.

A bit harsh on Bode there Kane.

He played pretty well against West Coast, earning a fair few hard balls, but he did burn it a bit with his kicking. His attitude was good though and he did work hard.

I'd pick him, but Gallagher could get a spot to take Harvey when he rests up forward.

This is one of only about 2 dubious spots in the team.

Schuey played one very good game against Port. As much as I like the lad, he would be behind Gags and possibly Bode for a spot in the 22.

I would love Reilly, Schuback and Hentschel to come in and play a very good footy and keep their spot for the entire year. I think all will have their up and down patches.

Hey there, a kangaroo supporter here. I am interested in how you guys think you will line up.

I wont say what I think because I do not know your club as well as you people do. I think what may influence the selectors is the strength of our club vs what you would expect to see against another team.

Our strength is really our smaller players, I noticed one of the lineups mentioned had alot of height on the bench which might provide alot of matchup issues. Round one is one of the hardest to name a team for because you have no real idea what the opposition is going to go with.

Almost all our players in form over the pre-season are the smaller players, particularly up forward and Laidley may opt to pick a very quick relatively small team outside of key positions.

Anyway, should be a great game and good luck!
