Shiiiiiit-balls. May as well go Steve Kerr small-ball now. Why not.

Play wood as our 2nd key Defender and just surround he and cordy with runners. Maybe it will spark our running game. Who knows.

Trengove was so so bad down back last year. Roberts isn’t up to it and lewy young has disappeared.

FB: crozier cordy Williams
HB: Daniel wood Richards

After what we saw v St Kilda, Daniel as a starting 6 defender scares the fk out of me.

Otherwise agree, better off playing better smalls than crap talls for the sake of it.

Updated Round 1 team:

B: Wood Naughton Crozier
HB: Daniel Cordy Duryea
C: Richards Macrae Hunter
HF: B.Smith Schache Lloyd
F: McLean Gowers Wallis
Foll: English Bont Libba
Int: Suckling, Trengove, Williams, Dunkley. Dickson doesn’t seem likely now.

Problem I am having is having to put good mids in a forward pocket when they should be up the ground in the midfield - eg mclean. We just lack good small pacey forwards. Can’t even start Trengove or English FF because neither of them barely played there in the JLT. Hayes looks likely to debut now. Dickson seems a miracle from here.

Don’t mind that as Williams can compete pretty well in the air too.

Agree on Trengove - he is too slow

Agree. Cordy or any other defender of that ilk their job is bring ball to ground and let the runners get going.

Just get that ball to ground

Now that Morris is down.Surely we use a stop gap like Trengrove. And plant him at full forward. He is too slow at full back and too short for the ruck with the 6 6 6 format.
So with Boyd down.Trengrove to the forward line.Port Adelaide knew something
.not rocket science.

Keep Naughton forward. Would like to see Lewis Young emerge, now that Morris is out. Trengove can graze in the VFL.

That's disgusting. I understand indigenous round and things like that but we should not be changing our guernsey for ******* Disney
First off I agree that it isn't a good looking jumper. The reality is that we are a minnow footy club and we need to maximise any commercial opportunity.

At the very least would be getting a solid return from Marvel for it. Also a merchandise opportunity to flog the jumper to our kids would be the target demographic of it. Never forget the power of a nagging child.
I wish we didn't need to do it but like that the club recognizes the fact of where we are at in commercial terms and is being proactive to keep us from falling back into debt

again if it means cash then so be it but not in Round 1 make it a no brainer game at the Dome and make it a big kids day not the Jumoer to start our 2018 season off to a side we beat to iin a flag a few years ago
Understand the sentiment but the fact that it is the first round that makes it worth something to Marvel to kick off the season

Excellent point - dropping the Footscray label seems far more significant than a one-off jumper, yet we all embraced the name Western Bulldogs. ...

I’m not sure we all embraced the name change. I was shattered at the time and would change it back to Footscray in a heartbeat.

Mr Bucket is right, "all" isn't right, plenty of older supporters can't bring themselves to use new label, the Club is now just "the Bulldogs" to many. Selling home games, the Docklands deal, leaving the Western Oval were all commercial imperatives; adopting another name and non essential jumper changes (the AFL mandates an away jumper, now anyway) aren't. I'd be happier if the VFL and AFL teams swapped names. Times change, not always for the better, but they do.

Will JJ play Round 1? I plan to speak to him today at AFLW and suss out whether there is a bit of gamesmanship being played by the Club here. Wouldn't surprise me if he ran out to play against the Swans.

He has history from memory. Came back unexpected from a hamstring in 2016 against this very side and nailed a shot after the siren at the SCG

If he does miss, then our four best fro the 2016 Premiership will be missing: JJ, Boyd, Picken and Morris. Sydney will fancy their chances, right?

Can you ask Bev and Turtle the team for next week and what the game plan is

I mean seeing you know them personally and can even talk to them when they are in other states ?

But at the end of the day, times do change. We need to accept that the AFL is essentially a whole new era for football, and basically seperate from the VFL days. In the interest of establishing a national competition, we had to accept that some things become commercialised to fund this venture

Money for moved games, Western Oval to Docklands and mandatory away jumpers, yes, but adopting a new name had nothing to do with the AFL. In 1996, the Smorgon-led Board included an advertising man with a pony tail.
