The lack of composure, not taking a mark, a defense under siege....

This last quarter is the 2nd half of the grand final all over again. We absolutely pack it in, in situations like this.

Need a restructure for situations like this. Or just some cool bloody heads.

Another day, another choke.

Sloane invisible when it mattered.

Played some nice football at times, but poor signs for our mental state in the battles ahead.

Complete midfield failure. Again.

Second tier midfield non existent, leaving too much to a poor Sloane, under siege Gibbs and Crouch.
CEY and Greenwood useless for most of the game.
Atkins terrible.
Hampton bad then injured.
Douglas atrocious and likely to be suspended.
Mackay had 2 nice kicks but the rest of the time proved he still isn't an AFL body
Jacobs continuing on from the grand final: disappointing to say the least

Good - Sloane. Seriously was he the only one who put his body on the line in that last quarter? Too often he was on his own against 2 or 3 Bombers players. Liked the looks of the Fog early.

Bad - That last quarter. We should have ran them over but we did not have enough prepared to win the hard ball gets. We also lost the stoppages badly in that quarter.

Ugly - Our marking or ability to play to the advantage. Too much watching and not enough doing. Douglas suspension...if he hit the head he is goneski!!!!

Really lacked run and forward movement without tex and lynch. Half the team looked cooked in that last quarter.

Didn’t get out A game on at all.

Not the end of the world but without dougie next week our depth will be tested and its a big way back from 0-2

The players were cooked in that last quarter, you'd be surprised how much of a difference an extra 3 weeks of preseason makes.

Very disappointing result, losing Lynch really hurt and no Tex to be a focal point up forward also hurts. Fogarty was brilliant, going to be a gun.

What????? He was the only one in and under.

Good:
Doedee and Fogarty are players
Crouch and Laird are still in AA form
Gibbs has class
Sloane still gives a shit

Bad:
McGovern is a third forward and I am starting to think he is massively overrated.
Jenkins is still Jenkins
Atkins is butter
Greenwood, Hampton, CEY are all the same - can do stuff that looks great, but you really, really do not want to have to rely on them.
Talia is an AA defender and he panicked like a first gamer.
Umpiring. Jesus that was shit.

Ugly:
Dougles will go for a couple. The concussion and the fact he's not named Cotchin, means he's gone.

Choked in the 4th quarter simple as that. Lynch and Walker would have made no difference, it was the poor decision making by the whole team including the coaching and panicked and choked it away. No excuses!

It is a long way back from 0-2 and I will not be satisfied by finishing 5th at the end of the minor round.

Good:
Fog and Doedee - we have a future with these two but we knew that already
Laird - Vastly becoming our best player

Bad:
Gov - Was even worse than Jenkins
Betts - Stop flying for mark of the year 5 times a game. If you didn't get it the first time, we try again for the next hundred ****ing times
Midfield was destroyed in the last quarter all while their best player was off
Lost from 20 points up. Don't care if it's only round 1, we still turn to water when the pressure is on.

It was pretty inevitable. We've looked like a lot of Round 1 Grand Final teams do all pre-season - good when it clicks but ultimately four weeks behind. Needed to snag it if we could, but couldn't capitalise at crucial times. When you're playing a good team in Melbourne you just have to kick the clutch goals.

Essendon will be good this year. We could've played a poor team tonight, won in a scrap, and felt all warm and fuzzy. Instead we faced a Top 4 contender and fell short.

We certainly won't see us playing the open, free-flowing scoring blitz that we saw in the first month last year. We will need to grind wins against Richmond and St Kilda to get ahead of the ledger until we get players back. It might benefit us in the end.

heck me what a shambles of a football club
Start the season with six or seven out and will probably lose a couple more for nxt week
Couldn't organise a root in a brothel when all is said and done
Essendon should have been an easy ask for a team with it's shit together

Our kick ins from a point were absolute hippo shit.

If we’re relying on Mackay and Atkins to do that this year, we’re ******.

They both panicked and did dumb shit, stupid kicks.

If that’s our plan, it will be a massive weakness.
How many of Mackay's kicks were after him kicking it to himself?
