Look, I'm not blaming the umps for the loss, but come on, they were the reason we lost. Again, I'm not blaming them for the loss, just stating the truth that they cost us the win.

So --- what'd you think about the Umpiring ? Think it affected the result? How about the Umpiring?

Geez... I joined BF after last year’s gf.. so this is actually the first time I’ve been a part of the pre/during/post game BF analysis of an actual game (ie not preseason game etc etc)...

And I’ve gotta say... wow... there’s some hysterical meltdowns!..

We went into this game missing many of our best players including Brouch, Lynch and tex and we were playing away from home against a side that should find themselves in or about the top 8 this season.. people need to calm down.

The game should’ve been over at half time... but testament to our guys we clawed our way back into the lead at 3 quarter time... then we simply ran out of legs in the last which was always going to happen with a shorter preseason than our opponents and several of our players not really ready.

But f*ck me, it’s not the end of the world ffs... there are some fantastic positives to take from it... the best being doedee, he was one of our best tonight.

And there are some of our starting 22 that need to take a long hard look at themselves... Atkins is one of those.

The season has only just begun. It’s a Marathon not a sprint.

Geez the Douglas, Gibbs, McGovern and Greenwood misses in that final term really compounded the issue especially when your running around with a unfit, unorganised ramshackle outfit and you get those good chances inside 50’s.

Fog did what he needed to. Showed some special things, tried hard, and didnt get injured. To be fair, our midfield entries were terrible.
Doedee again showed what he needed to. Got showed up a couple of times, but he didnt fall apart after them and kept trying all night.
He is NO replacement for Lever, not at all. As I have said, he isnt the intercept marker Jake is, and doesnt have the leap and punch Jake did. He also lacks Jakes height. He is a more atheltic version of Kelly.
So I dont think he can be judged as Jake.
He seems like a quality bloke, so I hope he makes it.

We were undermanned and will get better, but we blew a decent lead and lost a game that would have started off our season nicely and could be crucial at season end.

It was a disappointing loss, there’s no sugarcoating it.

Not remotely concerned about tonite. Thought we’d lose. Next week we’ll win and win well. It’ll be a slow start to the season but our depth is really impressive. Matt Crouch, Gibbs and Sloane in the middle will be something to behold.

So many youngsters out there and playing Essendon at Etihad where they can absolutely burn teams in the blink of an eye. Next week is massive and we’ll win.
