I think Michael does hold his spot. His fitness could be handy at Subiaco. Hopefully he can run Dawson off his feet. Plus I don't think whatever they dropped Lisle for will be fixed in only 2 weeks.

  1. we have no depth
  2. Voss still cant get our first quarters right
  3. we just wasted a friday night slot, which will draw terrible viewers, because we couldn't even put on a decent match
we are missing alot off players though, so i won't go to hard, i'm just frustrated

also, michael shouldn't have even been playing, he played worse then lisle last week

harwood really showed he belonged i thought he wason his way out end of the year since he wasn't getting a crack and the list was due to be cut even further due to rookie upgrades etc

We have really strong talent on our lists, unfortunately it just can't be expected that every player will perform at AFL level, the team was too inexperienced tonight. We've got alot of good up and coming players but you can't play them all in the same side, we basically had a NAB cup side out there tonight and our spine of the team is very undermanned. As for the choice of Longer he's played around 10 games as a 2nd year ruckman, he's got a mature body sure but that doesn't mean he's a mature player yet. Pick 8 though and we took Leuenberger at pick 4, if Longer can turn out like Leuenberger and he should we'll have a pretty decent ruck duo on our hands. That being said Leuey should really emerge as the number 1. ruckman very soon so watch this space. Longer needs time basically the rest will work itself out.

We'll build momentum I think a couple of weeks after the bye when we get the likes of Merrett, Brown, Rich, Rockliff ad Golby back with hopefully Maguire and Leuenberger not too far after that. Alot of the time experience is the key to winning games and with the lack of it and the lack of ball winning ability tonight we suffered the consequences.

I'll compare our 2009 side briefly. Arguably our list is more talented now however in '09 what made us play finals was the spine of our team. Brown in AA form, Bradshaw, Clark in AA form (but didn't make it) Black good as ever, Merrett, Patfull and then the emergence of Rich that complemented the rest of the midfield. Along with this Drummond played almost every game in that year. Yes players like Stiller and Sheldon were in the team but they were role players who could hold down a spot. Hooper aswell. COmpared to us today we had no where near that ability in the team. Because we are a developing side we probably have alot of fringe players, but as of yet not a whole heap of players that can fill a role week in week out. Harwood was able to tonight but the rest of our players struggled to compete. There's no doubt Karnezis is more athletic and has alot more potential than someone like Harwood, but Harwood just has those extra few pre seasons and more experience to be able to make an impact when called upon. We had too many first and second year players in the team tonight and it showed.

Docherty I thought did well tonight, he's one that should be getting a game more often. Generally just sit tight, we should come good in the latter half of this season. Stay cool.

Well if we are holding Cornelius and Lisle to the same standards, then absolutely not.

Was unsighted for the whole game and I was led to believe prior to the game that he was a leading forward. Not sure I saw anything that remotely resembled that.

Lisle offers far more IMO.

Flicking between 7 and Fox, I was amazed at how little analysis our club received compared to Collingwood, even to the point of showing Buckley's presser but not Voss'.

I probably shouldn't be surprised though.

Skills. They matched the age profile of our team tonight.

Don't think they were as young as we were. They had 8 players with 150+ games compared to our 2, and we had 12 under 50, compared to their 7.

Pendlebury, Swan, Sidebottom, Ball and Jolly were too much for our inexperienced midfielders (apart from Black, Redden and Moloney [who only played a half]) to manage. But all their players spread so much better, young or old, whereas we were very stagnant.

We hold all 3 to the same standard and don't play any of them?

Ace is irrelevant anyway. It's between Michael and Lisle for the forward/ruck position. On the bigger ground Longer will probably need more of a rest. I can't see whatever the reason they had for playing Michael ahead of Lisle this week changing before the Freo game.

Not that Harwood had a perfect game, but I was really struck by how confident and comfortable he looked out there for someone who gets so few senior appearances.

I'm very impressed that some have found a way to complain about lisle not being selected after that general performance. I think some just need to complain about something.

Michael moves well but doesn't move to any of the right places. I watched him pretty closely tonight and that's the conclusion I reached. He does hit the body pretty hard but was so regularly in the wrong spot that he just couldn't get into position to even compete.

He might not be the smartest footballer but he plays with a very level head and is ultra consistent in his effort.

Food for thought... or sobering information regarding tonights game.

Round 16 2010 – Geelong sitting on top of the ladder at 12 and 3 head over to Adelaide to play the crows who were sitting 10th with 6 and 9… During warm up, Geelong trainer/official has a heart attack, receives CPR – Geelong players in shock, go down in an upset by 11 points – trainer recovers, Geelong recovers to finish 17 and 5.

Don’t know how widely known this is but… tonight a Lions trainer/official suffered a heart attack during the warm up – receives CPR and off to hospital - players obviously numbed – played shit.

Official is recovering in hospital – close book on game.

Very sad. Hope he is OK.

absolutely agree, lacks polish BUT makes up for grunt and toughness, great game from him tonight lets hope he gets a run of games, possibly If maloney is out replacing him in the middle

I said at quarter time that he was our one positive to that point.

Wow I didn't know that. Hope he's OK.

I was about to say the same thing Tom.

He was by and far the shining light for me tonight. I don't even mind that he made a couple of mistakes, because on both occasions, he was taking the game on, something we lack. Furthermore he isn't afraid to take a hit and get in between a ball and the opposition's leading forward.

I know quite a few on here have suggested for a few months now that Adcock is the reason Harwood isn't getting a game and I've understood that reasoning, but tonight demonstrated that his best should translate to being in our best side, only problem is, what position when you factor in similar types such as Golby, Yeo, Docherty?

I'm not sure yet, but if a decision did come down to a choice between Harwood or Adcock, I'd pick Harwood.

Andrew Raines .......SO fustrating, He really struggle to have a negating impact on big bodied quality mids, Pendelberry torched him today.
To add to this His disposal by foot in particular is terrible EXCEPT going for goal, and he gives away to many stupid free kicks, I KNOW THERE WERE SOME VERY SOFT ONES TONIGHT, BUT he needs to cut that garbage out of his game.

Karnezis missing 2 very gettable goals Totally IN EXCUSEABLE.

Hanley, last week dennis armfield shut him out of the game and tonight mcaffer did the same, not only that Mc Caffer was able to have a impact going the other way, Hanley has made huge strides in his devlopment to get to where he is, NOW like dan rich need to work through getting tagged.

Harwood was good but not great. He was made few errors, but needs more game time in the seniors to get use to the senior level of speed. Speaking of speed he looked like he has a spring in his step, which is good to see his fitness being afl level.

Yeah, I think learning to cope with a tag from an experienced AFL level player is something only the absolute best players can do.

Even Akermanis struggled with a really good tag.

I thought Black, Harwood, Redden (that goal!!!), Zorko, Paparone and Staker were good. I'm not going to say anything about anyone else.
