Not sure what you're basing this on. Thought Oscar was terrific in the early game at the MCG last year.

My memory is not that great for me to remember the actual game so i was going off stats.
So that's what i am basing it on. I did say Oscar was okay in the later (June) game

Sometimes stats are misleading but i don't think so on this occasion

The early game was April

If Oscar is getting epidural injections (which are relatively non targeted injections in the space around the spinal cord), it's likely not going to be a straight forward rest and he'll get better type of situation. It's unlikely to be something like a muscle or joint injury that gets better with rest like a hamstring strain.

AFL website has some interesting ins for us..

Brisbane v Narrm at the Gabba, 3.20pm AEST

BRISBANE

In:
J.Short, C.Gray, J.Alger
Out:
J.Berry (concussion)

R9 sub: Darcy Gardiner

Selected extended bench >

[1] Kai Lohmann,[2] Deven Robertson,[10] Levi Ashcroft,[18] Keidean Coleman,[22] Ty Gallop,[26] Conor McKenna,[27] Darcy Gardiner,[32] Darcy Fort.

Surely we don't play all 3 of Oscar, Fort and Gardiner.

My preferred bench out of those 8 would be >

Kai Lohmann, Levi Ashcroft, Keidean Coleman, Ty Gallop. Sub Conor McKenna.. just has happy with Dev as sub.

I like McKenna as a sub. I don't know why, but it always works for us when he's in that role and he's so versatile and quick as well. So you know he can break games open when the sub is usually made.

Yes, he's a great player anyways (who can play in most medium roles) but when the game slows down towards the end his magic really shines.

If Oscar is stiff and broken why play him ? He was pretty much non existent last week.

Berry, Gardiner and Big O - OUT

Kiddy, Gallop and McKenna in
Unless rest makes it worse/stiffer and the only way for Oscar to get back to normal is to keep playing.

I would have thought if Oscar was going to miss, he would not have been named. Unless he is doing a Chris Scott.

Other than that, i don't have any thoughts of what Fagan has in mind

We all know Kiddy is best 22 but Fagan may be naming a few that played in the VFL just stating they are close to AFL ready.

Congratulations to Bailey and Raynor playing their 150th. Does not feel it was all that long ago they debuted.

If Gallop makes the side well done also.

From that extended bench I would start with Lohmann, L. Ashcroft, Coleman and Fort. Robertson would be SUB.
I just sent this to Chris Fagan (aka BRAB) so you can lock this in.

Shouldn't the question be, will playing Oscar make us better, has the pain issue affected his game to warrant a rest? If it is the need to keep playing, no shame in a Vfl game. But if is rest and more diagnosis needed, rest him and hopefully he comes back strong after the bye. I'm more than happy to be cautious with him.

I think Fort is mobile enough to play a kind of tagging role on Gawn. Just be wherever he is, be in his pocket, get in his road and bring those round the ground marks Gawn takes to ground. I think if you pester Gawn enough he gets his cranky pants on and loses it a bit.

I'm playing Gallop too. Sorry Dizzy. I reckon his aggressive defense and attitude might be a spark the team needs. New blood energy. He would get Hippy reved up. Someone asked earlier here, who takes the 2nd Ruck, A- Hippy, B- Dunkley, C Morris, add Gallop to the list and I reckon its all of the above. If Fort mirrors Gawns time on ground, I reckon between the 4 of them, they could cover. As said earlier also, there's no jumping any more, they just gotta wrestle n hope.

Fletcher back to the wing no doubt. He's a good kick and should feed the ball into the F50 better than it has been, and he gets back hard to support the back 6 in defense when needed. His time down back should improve that as well. Both Fletcher and Berry when on the wing, get back to support the defense so well. Probably an unnoticed strength from last year.

I'm not that keen on playing Kiddy either. I'd like a cpl more vfl games, a bit of assessment on the injury recovery and come back fit n confident after the bye. So that 7th defender spot maybe Mckenna n Ah chee rotate. I don't think I'm trusting Dev back there with 4 points on the line. I know he's been playing a bit there in the vfl but I'd have more confidence in the other 2. But hey, if they think Kiddy is good to go I'd be excited to have him back.

At this stage of the season I'm happy to rest, be cautious with players. I'd love to see Oscar, Kiddy, Doedee and Starce all 100%, fit n firing, after the bye. Certainly beefs up the run home.

I'm still a bit disappointed in last week's effort. Hoping to see a great improvement. I dislike Melbourne, I dislike losing to them immensely.

So I had a choice of poking my eyes out, slamming my dick in a car door or rewatching a bit of the Roo's game... it was a toss up, they all offered nothing but pain, I turned the TV on...

Like plenty of others have said, Dizzy was questionable as the sub, Oscar was pantsed, the mids were trounced - it was a game that we'd like to pretend never happened.

But it does highlight some areas that are still our weaknesses. When Bez went down we lost a decent chunk of running and defensive work.

Our mids - especially when you have a Dunkley, Bailey, Washcroft rotation in the centre square is an incredibly one sided affair with only Dunks offering any real defensive pressure. To be honest I don't understand the line up at all - small bodies - Fletcher & Levi were coming in as well... North were harder, faster and more willing to tackle. It highlights how critical the loss of Lachies form is.

If Oscar is injured then rest him. Gawn has his number 9 times out of 10 - and it's usually a very one sided affair. We need to balance up the midfield and actually be prepared to body the Dees or Petraca and Oliver will demolish us. We can't stand Bailey and Wash against those 2 when both are effectively offensive players.

The other thing that stood out - apart from the serious lack of discipline which to me means the boys thought it would be a cakewalk and when it wasn't looked for anyone else to blame - was Zorko's turnovers. Holy... watching back he almost kicked to them as much as he kicked it to us. I'd go as far as saying it was a massive error of judgement to keep trying the risky kicks when in reality we should have been icing the game.

So I can't help but wonder if Kiddy is back sooner than we thought for a reason. But again the balance worries me. Niether Zork or Kiddy are terribly defensively minded... can we carry both?

For the same reason Gallop is in for me - he's got the rabid dog about him in the VFL and it could come in very handy.

Even though the Dee's forwards haven't been great we just can't afford to turn up with the same lack of intent that we did last week - especially through the middle. If we let them be fed by the centre often enough they'll eventually kick a winning score.

It's a bit of bellweather game this. If we actually get selections right and turn up with some determination I'll be happy. If we turn up like last week I'll start to entertain the hangover talk. The ladder flatters us frankly and I hope we know it.
