With the latest ruck news on big O the Lions have.

Big O playing but should not be by the sounds of things.
Fort played 50/50 with the above-mentioned Oscar last game.
Day out for another 5 weeks
Henry Smith out 7-8 weeks
Brendon Ryan (last choice that has played AFL) out 4-6 weeks

If we rest Oscar, we don't have many choices. Fort to number 1 ruck then what?

(a) Hippy to Joes role but i would not risk it. If Hippy gets injured in the ruck, we are stuffed for the season.
(b) A midfielder like Dunkley. I mentioned in a previous post (Unofficial preview Lions v Melb) what Lions could do to accommodate that.
(c) Morris is given a go. Probably better than the VFL guys as he has an AFL season under his belt. Like Hippy i would not risk it though.
(d) Throw someone in the VFL with AFL experience into the deep end. Only Joyce fits that bill.
(e) Play one of the 2 VFL youngsters below as ruck relief.

Most on BF will opt for Gallop being a bigger bodied player to ZZ. But ZZ is 2 cm taller at 196 cm the same as Day.
Also, i thought ZZ looked well suited to the ruck role in the VFL game last week.
Admittingly both were up against inexperienced opponents

Gallop being a forward so he could add to the scoreboard.
ZZ looks much better around the ground and not sure if they would gamble and play him forward.

The more i think about it the more i like Dunkley going into a few CBA's while Fort is on the Bench.

For Fitzroy supporters with long memories, what'sMichael Reeves doing these days.,if we want a 6 2 ruckman.

This is pretty much it. Dizz is the kind of player coaches and teammates have a soft spot for. Extremely competitive, will always give 110%.
I’m sure Hippy will be the second ruck but if they threw that to Dizzy because we can’t risk Hippy getting injured in the ruck then we all know that he will fight tooth and nail at every contest.

I would have preferred to see Gallop debut, but with the VFL having a bye this week, maybe it is the right time to give a young body the rest.
Got sweet fa to do with "soft spot" for Dizzy. He's a proven performer who gives his all. That is why he is in the team.

Gallop doesn't deserve a call up just yet....his recent poor form in the VFL doesn't justify promotion. He will get his opportunity I am sure.

Dizz sets an example in the manner he plays.
If we played with his heart each week we would be unbeatable with our squad.
Gallop is young and aggressive he will make mistakes he will run out of gas last week would have been a better game for him to play in.
Melbourne although are not the team they were they still are defensive enough to negate Gallops game i feel he would give us less overall than Dizz.
Kossi Melksham will be our biggest problem tomorrow they both have a good history against us.

I'm not sure it is poor form as such with Gallop, more like learning to play an unfamiliar role. We are trying to strike gold again with the Daniher style back up ruck and we are trying to do it with a first year player.

Agree on Gardner. Absolute warrior for this club.

Lions coach puzzled by report involving first-string ruckman
Quizzed on the reports that McInerney may be a week-to-week assessment, Fagan was left puzzled by the suggestion, stating it's the "first I've heard of that".
"Where'd that story come from? I hadn't heard that story," Fagan told media on Saturday morning.
"He plays every game this year bar one, where he might've been ill. We've selected him this week and he trained on Thursday.
"Ruckmen get sore from time to time, they carry a heavy load. With Darcy Fort available to us, maybe across the course of the season - because both of them are in their 30s - we might need to alternate them a little bit and rest them occasionally to keep them fresh.
"But that's the first I've heard of that."
...
"Eric will play a little bit more like Joey Daniher did last year, pinch-hit in the ruck occasionally."

can we expect coleman to be on managed minutes? or is he all good to go off half back with good mins as he's played a few in the vfl? what do you guys think

I think Diz is quite flexible these days. He can play in the forward line to sit on, and make accountable an intercept defender. He can 'tag' a backman. Then he can be switched into defence and play as a backman himself. Fagan likes that flexibility in players. Gallop is, at this early stage, just a forward with a little learning on ruck work. Mind you I wanted to see Gallop play tomorrow.

Dizzy’s form up forward doesn’t justify selection either. Gallop on the other hand has more up side.
Coaches absolutely love guys like Dizzy. Their attitudes get them game time when their form doesn’t justify it.

No one disputes Dizzy's commitment , how much he is loved , etc etc.

What I question is his value to the team particularly when played in the forward line or anywhere else when we're too top heavy.

But if others can see the value there , and obviously the coaches do , then that's the way it is.

Dont know why you say he was selected as a forward?

My old man’s normally got a good gut feel for the footy. Normally pretty optimistic, but has correctly called our last two drop in points (Pies and North).

In saying that though, Kiddy is his favourite player in this current crop and his vibes for the game couldn’t be further through the roof!!

That should be the focus for me. Plan around Gawn. Accept we will probably lose the tap and try and shark it. Then don't kick long down the line to him. Need have our kicking game on and changing angles and switching it to go around or over him
Absolutely. That and handball receives so even if we are forced to play in straight lines we are still able to kick over the top of Gawn/May/whoever is set up that kick ahead.

With Andrews, Payne and Lester already taking our primary key defensive posts, there isn't really a spot for Dizzy in defence, unless there is an injury.

Hmmmm maybe he will play as a midfielder?

Looks like being super humid in Brissy fir the game. Demons might wilt in the heat late?
Ah, I don't think our humidity at this time of year is going to be a problem. Even if it is high, it won't feel high. It's only when we start nudging 30⁰ the humidity starts to get to you.

And I say this as a Tasmanian who has migrated north!
