I can’t find grandpa Fages presser? Did he finally lose it in his presser and it can’t be published due to the number of expletives?
Its on the 7 footy site. No expletives from Fages, but I don't think he was too happy.

Yesterday's game had me thinking about our form as a whole this year and if the season was to finish now who would be top 5 in the B&F, given we seem to have been so inconsistent within games this year.

Off the top of my head, in no particular order I thought maybe Dunkley, McLuggage, Bailey, Fletcher, Lester/Zorko? Washcroft possibly close. Lachie seems to only be able to play a game to his usual standard every other week now. Motty perhaps a bit unlucky also?

Our lack of defence and size was exposed yesterday. Oscar, Berry and Starcevich all would have helped steady the ship.

Coleman is an excellent player but it’s a big change to our structure and will take time to adjust.

As noted by others here, our midfielders weren’t running back on defence. Will seems overly invested in looking for one-twos

Some pretty poor performances from Noah and Kai, but could list about 5-10 more. Fort tries but unfortunately isn’t a number one ruckman.

I genuinely hope the club is lobbying Joe Daniher to come back.

Fages has got this, liked that presser, he mentioned lack of hunger and unforced errors.

Not just this game but i have been thinking for a while we need a genuine crumbing forward. Not one that just wants to take marks all time - Ah Chee, Kia, Cam , it is to many based on balance. The ball just gets turned over and rebounded. You could argue Charlie may be this but lets be honest he has lost some of the goal kicking skill required as a small forward and most of us would have very little trust when he lines up. Zac has been great though.

Not a big fan of this either, definitely been a tad down this season, he's a supreme professional so he will get his best form back at some stage.

I think Neale has been good, he’s been getting tagged a bit.

I would have our top performers for the season as the following (in rough order):

McCluggage
Dunkley
Neale
Bailey
Wilmot
Will Ashcroft
Zorko
Fletcher

Do you remember our match with GWS at the Gabba last year?

Luckily I was driving somewhere and missed that one completely.

My only good memory vs GWS game is the semi final when we came from clouds and I was cheering my heart out from the stands.

Neale's lack of defensive efforts were piss poor yesterday. Will the same.

Oscar seems very fragile at the moment .
Losing Joe also meant losing his back up ruckman .

We basically lost two players when Joe retired , he is so hard to replace .

Hopefully things get sorted out eventually .not sure how though .

That match, Gruzewski went to Andrews, but we wanted Andrews to play on Hogan. More to the point, the Giants wanted Joyce to be playing on Hogan.

So for the whole day Hogan, Andrews, Joyce and Gruzewski were playing this ring a ring a rosie in the goal square. It took Andrews almost completely out of the game in robbing us of his ability to intercept.

We wanted to dictate the match up and in doing so we took away Andrews' ability to impact the game in his usual manner, via his positioning. You can do one or the other but you can't do both.

That was a key learning we took from that game.

Despite being on top of the ladder I haven't rated our form overall against what I've seen from other clubs so far this year but there are things we can fix immediately.

Two way running from the mids as Nunez alluded to is just an effort thing and these guys need a kick up the backside to start doing it. Berry back will really assist in this regard.

He might have been for some but they were always idiots.
Exactly.
If you weren't happy with Joe last year then what does make you happy.
Very clear he was a massive point of difference for us.
Thought he came consistantly good towards the end of 1023 from what I remember.
Early days sure he was frustrating to watch when in the ruck and so on. I think we all just had to get to know his traits and personality.
We were so lucky to have a player like him to cheer for, tried his best.

For a crumbing forward I woudn't mind Craven getting a go at some point at AFL level to see how he goes. From what I've seen in the VFL looks like a smart player with good skills.

Which of the contenders have hit top form this season so far?
Us - no
Hawks - no
Pies - no (scary)
Cats - don’t think so
GWS - definitely not
Suns - yes - but are they contenders?

Having said that we have a couple of structural issues which is concerning. Can’t believe I’m saying this but we really need Day back

Don't know if anyones mentioned this already.
At one point in the game Levi gained possession in the right forward pocket , highly contested situation.
Gets a kick away , and as the commentators said to a dangerous position , centered the ball close to the square.
No Brisbane Lions player there though or was not up for it, was about 3 Demon players and they mark.
Happened a few times . Seemed like we just had nobody tall at the square or willing to climb for it, why not?!
As I said happened a couple of times.
Maybe the fact that there is no Joe and no smalls at the moment in any form.
I only got to watch the first half and the last 10 minutes mind you.

Lack of a proper key forward killing the lads. If Daniher was playing he’d have had 10 scoring shots by three quarter time such was this teams ability to move the ball at will.

Answerth was awful. Really bad game by him. Swear every time he got the ball it was a really bad turnover.
Not Noah's best game, but to be fair was marking Melbourne's most dangerous player Pickett when he was playing forward.

The team that I think at their best this season is playing the best football is the Bulldogs and we know what we did to them.

Suns and Cats also playing some bloody good footy.

We know our best is good enough, however we are very patchy and our percentage is the tell, the difference between our best and worst footy this year is a gaping chasm.

Yep dogs have looked very dangerous. I do wonder if they can sustain it all year which is why the conventional wisdom is to build into the season. Will get a nice boost when Darcy comes back too

Yeah, he did well keeping Pickett relatively quiet. I was more pointing out his inability to hit a target that wasn’t a Melbourne player.

I think we've been getting away with an ordinary structural setup and lack of effort at times ,particularly from the mids, with enough bursts of brilliance to keep our noses in front and some experienced grit at times , particularly in the first game and the Geelong game . But Collingwood exposed these deficiencies , the dam wall was breaking against North and it completely broke in the last quarter yesterday.

The good thing is that we know what the issues are , overall have the cattle to fix it and are still second on the ladder.

Just at present there are too many players out of form not showing what we know they're capable of. I guess we'll see if the desire is still there over the next few weeks. As soon as you put Berry and Starcevich back in the side it straightens us up quite a bit.

Dont win flags in May, but arguably can lose them, but IMO we just need to get the team structure sorted in the next few weeks. Kiddy coming back is the start. Hopefully Starc at some point. No doubt Kai is hampered by his ankle, probably something similar to what Neale and Payne struggled with over the past couple of years. Kai should be rested if not close to 100%, so he is firing towards the later half of the comp.

FWIW, struggled to come up with 5 best, but liked Dizzy's game, Zac was good, Fletcher, then a gap to Neale, and Morris.
