I’d happily put Owies in the vest ahead of Hewett but I don’t see the match committee agreeing with me.

If you make Hunt sub, someone has to shift to the wing. If you make Cole sub, someone has to shift into the backline.
Yep and I think that would be Hough for either position.
Gross would bring more to that forward line than Owies to both in tackles/pressure and probably score involvments. Plus he can rotate through the mids.

Playing him as an unaccountable half forward who doesn't get the ball... Doesn't tackle... And can't finish... Just to give him a game over a younger player reeks..

Him and Duggan and Cole have had about half a season of crap play.

Expose the youth... You never know... They could bloody infect the side with energy.

It can't get worse really
Not to mention the absurdity of being forced to switch the midfielder we sold the farm for with one of the most creative small forwards in the competition. Just drop him, get development into a young mid and stop expecting Ryan to cover him.
Bingo

On the basis of the "eye test" I thought TK had a poor game - and that was mainly on the back of his inability to convert. I didn't feel like he impacted the game elsewhere but I'll admit I don't see everything that happens on the field. Hearing the score involvement stat was surprising and fair to say McQualter seems like a very stats driven coach and would be happy with what he saw in that regard with Kelly. Hopefully it's just a bit of an adjustment with him playing a different role and he can build on that in the coming weeks.
All well and good but my ‘eye test’ was like yours - saw much of the same, limited effort at contests (still picking and choosing), lack of shepherds (not alone in that space though) Derm (?) called TK out on this stuff on the weekend. For a senior player responsible for helping to set standards I’d prefer he chose a better model - mind you, in his defence he is not alone in this regard.

Good effort last week = minimum changes, but good WAFL form (as reported by others but unsighted) presses for change. Good to have selection pressure.

If we go by Kelly's position of HFF and not a mid, his game was solid without being spectacular. At this stage if he can just kick a goal along with his score involvements I'd say that's a win.
We're probably looking at other players to lock the ball in and Kelly receive and pass or shoot. If we have enough scrappers in the forward half, he could end up having a few good years.

Hoping Gov has a full training session and get's through it, or have I missed something and he is a def out?

Definitely out. From Tuesday:

“Jeremy is still in concussion protocols and won’t be available this weekend.”

Surely Tom Gross is in the starting 22 after the week he's had.
He'll surely be raring to tear the game apart.
Would love a starting midfield of Harley, Hewett and Gross. Hopefully they can form a strong partnership that will last for the next decade.
You need to make sure he's got the coach's backing after that game he had. The first time he got caught was a mistake and lack of awareness. The holding the ball on the buzzer was the correct decision, he just got caught. We all know if he kicked it in time, it would probably have gotten rushed through. Without hindsight, the percentage play is run to 45 and have a ping.

He's not going to tear apart a game either. But he has a red hot crack and that's the culture that we want.

Well, Mini gave him a big pump up just now, so he definitely has his support.

I can see it now. We are 5 points down with seconds to go. Gross gets the ball running into the 50. Instead of risking being caught again he handballs back to Hedwards who punches the ball to the boundary line despite not manning anyone. Ernie Dingo puts his head in his hands as the siren goes.

Brock and Jilliams named on the bench to keep EY guessing. Either Brock plays and Allen goes forward, or Jilliams plays and he goes back. I suspect the former.

Don’t think there’ll be any other change unless there’s a late out (Duggan for example). Probably Brockman as sub unless they give it to Gross two weeks in a row.

Nah definitely passes it to Jamie Cripps who fumbles, struggles to recover, but then picks it up like lightning and snaps an unbelievable goal to win the game.

Then I wake up.
