A win against St Kilda featuring come back into form performances from Charlie/SPS in particular would be exactly what the Club and supporters would like to see. i don't think St Kilda have the on ball firepower to dominate for 4 quarters and I think we actually have them covered in terms of forward line potency. All eyes on Dow/Fisher and SPS to justify their starting on ball status after 2/3 shockers.

Would like to see Setterfield/Plowman/Stocker and Kennedy make the final cut on the bench for obvious reasons - to me anyway.
Cuners?

Edit:I read your last post.

This is a stupid question but something I’ve not really thought about.
We’ve nominated two outs but a lot of posters are suggesting there could be a possible four changes. I understand that we have named an extended bench allowing us more players to choose from but can we still drop more than the nominated two when it comes time to final team selection?
The final team comes out Friday late afternoon as it is a Sunday game. Can make whatever changes they’d like to the extended bench.

So four of the players on the bench will miss out.

If all of Macreadie, Stocker and Setterfield don’t make the cut on Friday afternoon that will mean a total of 5 outs and 5 ins.

Hope this helps :thumbsu:

Reckon that the 4 on the bench will be Setterfield, Cuningham, Plowman, and Stocker. Kennedy needs to lift still, and having a curtain-raiser VFL match pre-game can only benefit him if he performs well. Would be good for him to put on a show in front of the fans, and properly earn a spot. Will be hard to be overlooked in that kind of contest.

We need blokes on the field who take losing personally. Daisy is the classic example of that. Already bleeds blue. Guys who will fly the flag and lift the ones around them.

I was at the Pies game 2 weeks ago, and went to the Saints-Eagles game that night. Entirely different Saints team to the one that played Collingwood last weekend, it must be said, but I was unimpressed. The team overused the footy, excessive handball, etc. One thing I really noticed was they seemed to chip the ball around outside f50 a lot. Looked almost like they'd had a talking to from Richo about the angle they came into 50 from. Didn't seem to blaze it in and dump it in long, more like they seemed to try to find the "best way in." At one point they chipped it from the wing all the way to the other wing - gained no territory and still didn't know what to do with it. Was actually unimpressed with their brand of footy as opposed to the Baggers earlier that day.

I'm curious what our tactic will be on Matty Parker. He kicked 5 goals in 2 games against the Crows and Giants, then was silenced against WC and Collingwood. He's that brand of "live wire" forward that has seemed to give us trouble over the last few years. He feels like a guy that can bob up and kick a couple early if we're not ready.

They beat us by 10 goals last time, so I am not going to get swept up in saying we should win this one.

We are in with a chance much like any other week and the outcome will be dependent upon which Carlton team shows up - the one that wants to roll up their sleeves and earn their paycheques or the self entitled one that doesn’t give a rats rs.

If I was a betting man I would wager a nice win this week and then complacency thereafter until it’s time to ask the question about wether we have the right coach or not (2-3 weeks from now after a couple of honourable losses and a flogging).

Ed and Gibbo named up forward again, and if he doesn't move them into the midfield if we're getting smashed like last week, I'll seriously be getting on the 'sack Bolton' bandwagon. I do NOT want to see the kids get beaten up again by bigger bodies!!!

I am honestly getting sick and tired of this bs experiment, both are ****ing midfielders for god's sake. Ed has a proven track record of being a 'run with' who can also rack up possessions, and Gibbo is the best, repeat best, midfielder at state league level....who actually showed what he is capable of when they moved him into the mid against the Dogs. The one game we actually won.

Apparently Bolton has a reputation for stubbornness...and if we get beaten this week making the same positional changes like last week, I'll be pulling the Bearded Carpenter's recently retired 4b2 back out of retirement

This gets back to list management and I can't say it often enough.
So Ed & Gibbo are mids and we play them in the centre. What then? We have to drop another couple of mids back to fill those holes and off we go again.

There is another way - Get forwards to play in the forward line and mids in the centre and backs in the backline.
We haven't addressed this need when we could have but somehow we're going to find the solution in the mid-season draft? Really?

Wouldn't be surprised should Fasolo play as he was energetic, vocal and invested in his NB game last week.
If that attitude presented at training he may be hard to ignore.

As many have already said, there's no room for the inexperience or injury excuse this week.
A must win game.
Give something for the supporters to grab onto.

Seems strange to me that players get pidgeonholed at 17 years old to play the same position for their entire career. A talented footballer should be able to play most positions fairly well.

I agree, there was a huge change some years ago at junior level to develop kids, their strengths and weaknesses by allowing them to play in different areas/roles. Strangely enough most of the successful sides at any level were when a side had midfielders playing on flanks, rather than purely having dedicated defenders or forwards

No. Not really. :)

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses.
We may not like that notion, but it's simply a fact.

It's also about getting used to systems and what one should be doing with ball in hand dependent on where one is on the ground.
Is ECurnow a better midfielder or a forward-pocket player? Gibbons? Polson? What a mess of an idea that was and some were applauding it and even saying that by years end, we won't even be talking about needing specialist goal-kickers.

For the benefit of others, that was me. Looking forward to the discussions come year's end ;)

Not really :) as someone who played another sport to a high level, if you're a skilled player you can play anywhere and learn the role quickly. The problem for the most part is mindset.

A few have already suggested that Bolton has a stubborn personality. I tend to agree.
Not sure if it is a bit of the short man syndrome. (Sorry to all the vertically challenged people)
I just hope he is not like Parkin, who cost us the 1993 Grand Final for being too pridictable.
Madden, Bradley & Williams in the middle. Bombers put a plan to stop them and then no plan B.
If our small mid brigade are firing from the start, then great, keep them in. If they're getting smashed, Bring Ed in for a tag and bring in a bigger body. It's called having a Plan B for ***k sake.
I hope the Blues don't find another way to stuff this up.
Please don't let us down Blues. We have got enough talent. Get the job done!!

And you were going so good ...........

I remember a story a few years back where Parkin said that some random fan had handed him Essendons scouting report and plans to stop the blues midfield in the week before the GF, but he said he got lots of this supposed info from well meaning fans and didn't give it a second thought, it was only after the game was done a dusted that he found it and realised Essendons entire plans were laid out and that he had the key to the premiership the whole time.

Why can't we have both?

Exactly I’m screaming out a better team balance representation, embracing youth it’s development and nurturing with experienced and mature bodied presence.
Our youngsters are not prepared nor should have to endure the Mumford type incidents,
malicious intents to do harm to opponents.
The mental scarring from not wining is counterproductive too. A more sophisticated approach is what’s needed.

OUCH! I seem to remember that story aswell.
We should be on 17 Flags God dammit.

I hope it also indicated that part of their plan was to cheat the salary cap.
