Considering the weather is getting worse and worse and now looks like a wet weather game, I'd steer very clear of selecting Sharp.

Caldwell in and Young out in these conditions is definitely not ideal.

I've seen us lose to Essendon in Melbourne far too many times. Aren't we 0-4 at the G' against them?

With no Pearce and Young, add in the wet weather, I smell a danger game.

Still expecting a win, but like I said against the doggies, this will be far closer than people expect.
Three of four of those MCG games are from before 2000. The record is basically irrelevant IMO

We've beaten them there quite a few times in Melbourne just on the other side of town.

Serious question - When dod we last play Essendon at the MCG?

Feel like we mostly play them at Marvel and have beaten them there quite a few times.

If the games we've played Essendon at MCG were 10+ years what relevance does it actually have?
2024, lost by a point after leading all game, and lost our chance
to play finals

2024, lost by a point. You'll remember it. It's the one where we were up by heaps and lost Treacy then they charged back, we were missing Pearce too.

Most. Frustrating. Game. Ever.

We missed finals basically because that game too. Pretty sure I was calling for us to sack JL after that game - like just because of that game.

And yes, I've been critical of slow ball movement under JL and said we needed to move him on but that day was a level I barely get to. Generally keep comments like that on here for Monday to Friday when my emotions are more in check.

True, but that was also a long time ago.

  • Essendon then won six straight Victorian meetings from 2010–2021.
  • Fremantle broke that streak with a 48-point win at Docklands in 2022.
  • Essendon won the latest Victorian clash by 1 point at the MCG in 2024.
I've been to lots of freo losses against Essendon where we've been favourites.

Bombers somehow smashed Melbourne and got extremely close to Suns on their deck and GWS on their deck. Getting smashed by Brisbane isn't a surprise, lions will do that to most non finalists, but the Collingwood smashing was unforgivable.

Our biggest margin away from home is 12 points, which was supposed to be against an injured doggies team that we supposedly were going to smash.

In no way am I talking us down, just saying this will be a lot closer than people think.

Really just needed to not lose that last stoppage to allow the behind to put them up by 1 and we would have made finals on percentage.

That Fyfe suspension was very poorly timed in hindsight.

Absolutely I agree with all of this - They're capable of decent footy.

Still I think there's a few people overreacting to a few injuries mainly but then also bringing the MCG factor into when IMO it isn't really an issue at all.

If we lose it's because we played poorly not due to the above.

Yeah put me down for wont be a smashing but that's mainly because of the weather. Will still be a comfortable win
With a 5 day break, even if it's looking like a smashing we will put the cue in the rack. Weather will really bring us back to their level a bit though as their skills are one of their biggest problems.

Can Scerri put a hard tag on Archie Seagull? Asking for a friend
Playing against him in Supercoach?

It would be an interesting tactic. I can't say I watch too many Essendon games regularly so unsure how damaging all his stats are. He averages 4 score involvements and 33 disposals this year but it might have more to do with what's going on up the ground.

Yeah, he's not damaging at all .... but do a friend a supercoach solid

If JLo lets him run free and get 50 infeffective touches and we still win, i'll declare my love for him on the J-Lo thread. I need Roberts fantasy points this week.
Every other team is letting Roberts go free and winning..
