What were his options? Can be frustrating for even the best players in the AFL if your team mates present nothing.

Kick it long down the middle or long to the wings. A short kick in to the pocket just passed the buck for the decision making to a worse kick and less experienced player. It was simply inexcusable decision so don't try and make an excuse.

See that happen with 50% of kick ins in AFL games

Can't say i noticed his speed but from memory he is pretty quick with his 20m sprint. Tigerbob or tigs2010 might be able to say more but not sure they saw a lot of underage football last year.

I recall him being quick but not blistering, cheers. I think we could rotate him through the midfield (outside ) to make use of his foot skills like Sam Mitchell( Quality distributor)...Just thinking out loud.

Yeah but one thats AFL, the player you kick into is better then a VFL listed player (from memory he kicked it to Barlow). AFL teams don't go short to a pocket in the last 1-2 minutes of game that they are down by a 1point. They go long up the middle or at least to a free player 45 metres out. It was a shocking and baffling decision and deserves to be questioned when its a guy like Newman who is meant to be a senior AFL player.

You think that ever happens in afl games when a team is down by 2 with minutes left?

No it doesn't. Was a terrible decision.

That's pathetic, all you're saying is don't trust your team mates.

Sure he's not the first and not the last.

So if he kicked long, where were our players? was it not covered in bulldogs? they had the numbers in the area

Of course you would read it as that. I'm saying play smart and use your teammates and your strengths not exploit their weaknesses. If Deledio and Maric are running down the wing you don't let Maric run with the ball and kick it you give it to Deledio.

Sometimes you're only as good as the options your team mates present to you.

Yeah I didn't watch heaps last year. I'd say his speed is decent without being express.

Madonna - Best on kicked 3 was clean around the contests and must have had almost 10 clearances.

Lennon - Was really good til 3/4 time didn't notice him much in the last. Usually class when he gets it though. 2 good goals and some strong marks.

Lloyd - was really clever at HF but can't see him at AFL level as his skill set is a marking forward not at ground level and he is too short.

Short - Didn't get it a lot but so much to work with and makes so many right decisions

McBean - was actually pretty good in the ruck and alright around stoppages with 2nd efforts. Not very good forward and that was the difference with Cordy kicking 6.

Newman - Was shocking early solid to good in the 2nd and 3rd and then just had brain fades in the last. Missed a simple kick in, short kick in when we went down then just slowed it down on HBF when we need to go forward. Really shite from an experienced player. If he comes back after that i'm starting a sack dimma thread DrMike

Gordon - Just a dumb footballer. For some who runs all day didn't seem to get a lot of it

Thomas - was sensational as well but some cleaner handballs in the last would have been good, reckon had 3 or 4 cut off by doggies.

McKenzie - has a lot to work with but is really raw. Took some solid grabs and shot out a fantastic 15m hand ball with two dogs hanging off him on HBF in the third that opened up for a goal.

Dea - was good but misses too many easy targets by foot.

Our VFL level players are just dumb players for the most part. Kruse was terrible all game and in the last along with Newman and the Umps cost us the game with missed kicks, dropped marks and at least twice kicking to teammate out numbered 3 on 1.
No arguments there CM.Although a mention to Gale who outpointed Redpath all day.

Yes but it was still a bad decision. first it left us stuck in the back pocket with only wing available to us. It passed the decision making process to another player. Newman still could have gone long to contest down either wing and had the same result and as an exceptional kick of the ball could have probably put it further beyond the 50.

It was quite simply a horrible decision and even having no options does not make it okay.

Frustrating game to watch...particularly that last 5 minutes

Poor decision making mainly from senior players
Newly with his kick ins - x2 needed to get the game going forward rather than a risky short pass to the back pocket that failed...surely a long kick to the square was a better choice..
Gordon...was horrible today...half hearted...shanked kicks ...one crucial one in the last 5
Whilst Dea was good in parts he was also ordinary in parts...in the last quarter he looked spent

Great to see Lambert back...was a spark in the second half
McDonagh was BOG...mid 20 posies, 3 goals...creative around the ground
Wish Lennon could string a 4 quarter performance together...is great when he is on..then goes missing
Lloyd ok...gets his 02 goals then chills
McBean...lost confidence it seems

Did Perry actually get a stat? Lol..won't be playing for us again you'd think

Could have won this game...but the loss caps off a shite weekend

That's where blind shitty attitudes belong
Only ones apart from yourself cheering Newy on in those final minutes would have been the 22 Footscray players,The coaching staff.Footscray supporters and even Ted Whitten.
Theirs a fair chance they will even erect a statue of Newy at Whitten oval,Thats how much they loved Newys game.
