Expand on this a bit. I haven't watched all of the reserve matches and the way through but I reckon Balleden has looked far better down back than anyone else. and we need more size down back this week. Madden is too small for what we need on Friday.

Give the outs of Payne, Lester and Gardiner what are we going to do if one of Dusty, Riewoldt or Lynch get off the chain?

I do not think Starcevich is anywhere big enough for Dusty. If I was the Richmond coach and saw that match up, Dusty would go to the goal square and the rest of the Richmond forwards would be told to clear out.

Finally I would like to try Balleden as a backman. It may be the making of him.
I think you're under selling Starcevich a bit there Doctor, he has been in tremendous form this year and looks as strong as an ox, Dusty is a once in a generation player though so you never know what would happen no matter the opponent.

FWIW according to club websites >

Brandon Starcevich - 187cm, 92kg.

Dustin Martin - 187cm, 91kg.

Starc, with his size, strength, speed and abilities is the obvious choice to go to Dusty. His season so far will have given him the belief to want to test himself against the best, and I would back him to at least halve the contest.

Ballenden is getting better contested wise. He's a slow maturer who needed a niche and confidence . He'll take time but could be worth it. He's a lot better now than last year.

I get it that people don't want to play him this week .But I'm not brimming with confidence on some of the others either. He has some good attributes besides his size. A fairly reliable penetrating kick to start.

We don't have any other option than Starce for when Dusty goes forward imo. Adams isn't agile enough, and Dusty wins through good body positioning and then outstanding ability once the ball hits the deck. Adams on dusty in the 2019 QF was not good at all.

This won't be a week where Starce will keep his opponent to minimal touches and a goal but if Dusty only kicks two and doesn't take heaps of marks it would be a big win.

The real thing to nullify him will be to slaughter their otherwise inexperienced midfield and make it so that Dusty can't spend much time up forward.

Adams has improved since then but I'd rather Starcevich even if Dizzy was available.

If they get Dusty one out inside 50 nobody will be able to go with him. Adams was ok on Fyfe but he's more of a threat in the air rather than ground level.

We also have to not get sucked in and put too much focus on Dusty.

We haven't focused on him too much the other times he's killed us but I agree ,on many occasions there's not a lot anyone can do so it's a matter of limiting the situations where he gets opportunity with a good ball coming in.

Adams is quick enough and strong enough . No one is agile enough . He and Starc are our 2 options. Either would be ok. Whose game do we want to sacrifice the most ?

Dev Robbo when he is in the middle like he did with Fyfe and Starce when he rolls forward.

For me Mathieson is dropped and replaced with Tom Joyce. Just take a look at Toms in and under work in the game against the Suns. His decision making, strength, and body positioning were excellent. He's way above Mathieson, who's a good footballer without being a specialised onballer. We're trying to replace a Specialized onballer in Neale so let's play the man who's suited to the job. Joyce had something like 35 disposals against the Suns and it was obvious how effective he was compared to CEY who was prolific but poor.

Also, Madden has to come in to pressure the zippy Richmond smalls. He's got the speed and makes great tackles.

Teams stats in 2021
Over the years the Tigers stats were not in their favor but they kept winning games
This year they have reasonable stats but have struggled to win games
Opposition coaches/players may have worked out things to interrupt their manic pressure game
Teams need to beat them when they travel interstate as they are very good at the MCG
Port did their bit and knocked them off (only 2 points) in their only interstate trip so far this year
Now it is our turn to put some doubt in their few away games they play

Answerth is a possibility of returning this week. I know fagan stated he will bring him through the VFL, but considering our injuries and how big of a game this will be, surely they would consider him back into the senior squad.

The weight/Height stats on Lions players are way out of date. Brandon is heavier than 91 kg's and also much stronger than most think.

I think Brandon the perfect match up for Dusty if/when he comes into their forward line.

Nah!
He hasn’t played a game of any sorts since August/September last year.

Bounces stand out as a stark difference (1.8 v 8.9) and that stat correlates to their run and carry game.

Just when we need harry, he's out for months.

Good call. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a fair bit of money for Richmond during the week, particularly as punters digest the significance of Gardiner and Lester being out.
Yes I would expect Richmond's price to come in, but even allowing for our injuries I still think the bookies will have us as favourites at the GABBA considering the Tigers injuries.
Winning form is usually good form, but the last 5 or so games have played Carlton (probably don't make the 8), Essendon, Freo at the GABBA and the Suns, all three won't make the 8. We smashed Port at the GABBA, but were we very good or Port were just poor, probably somewhere in-between.
I think we are currently off the pace of Melbourne and Dogs, but premierships are not won in May (can be lost in May) and we are tracking OK to finish somewhere around 3rd to 6th, especially with Neal returning for the latter part of the draw.

I agree Answerth needs to play a few games to find match form.
not as long out of the game as Cockatoo. If you watch VFL games I say Cockatoo needs to get a few games.
Glimpses although rusty

Payne was listed as 1-2 weeks away last week as was Archie who played reserves last week.

Hopefully then Payne isn’t to far away (if not this week) with Dizz looking like he’ll be out long term.
I hope Payne is not rushed back, I think he has/had a stress fracture in the foot and we can see from Marshall and Viney with continual foot stress fractures/hot spots that they need to be managed properly. I know it is tempting to slot him in for Gardner but would rather a cautious approach even wait until after the bye and give another young person a chance for the next few weeks. Maybe Madden for a few games as his speed will be handy against the small tiger forwards

From the injury update video Payne is a little while away - hasn't started running yet.
