Really looking forward to this game. I came down to see the Tigers match last year, and they went with us until very late in that game through good pressure work. I think the tackling and forward pressure is something the Tigers have struggled to build up - but it's always been a bedrock of Wallace sides. Perhaps they were coming off a low base, as it's taken a while. But watching them this year, I'm seeing glimmerings of a fine working man's team on the up.

Anyone thinking this will be a cakewalk are getting ahead of themselves. Especially with Richo in such fine form (I hope his injury doesn't hold him back too much, we've so rearely seen Richo play to his potential in Sydney).

Also, I'll send a cheerio to the Tiger's grog squad. They're rough diamonds, but probably the best travelling fans we've had in Sydney in the last few years. The way they supported their team with positive chants in the face of appalling onfield performances recently has been a credit to the team.

Syd by 5 goals in a mostly tight affair if it's dry.

Close game hopefully it is close, with the Swans scrapping over the line but a highscoring game till the end!

Richo Goodes until Richo gets sent to the square then C Bolton. Goodes will then run more in the midfield.

If goodes gets tagged and is beaten for a while I hope he is sent in the Ruck.

I know he's not everybodies favourite, but last time LRT played on Richo (2006) he towelled him up. Richo hardly got a kick.
Was that when we lost by 20 goals (Richo 17 possessions, 2 goals), or the SCG game where he played with a broken wrist?

Bolton knows how to play Richo, even when the big fella's in prime form, and must be Sydney's first choice when he goes forward.

I think he may start off with Teddy on him, and then if it proves to be too much, Bolts. I'd love to see LRT have a go, and hopefully bounce back into some form that way.

If LRT doesn't get Richo, who is he gonna play on? Richmond dont have any other big forwards that I can see. I might have dropped him for this game, given their small forward line and Richo's mobility.

On another topic, would anyone else like to see Bolton C play as a key forward? He takes a strong grab, looks quick on the lead, is a handy crumber and can kick em from beyond 50 with style. Sure, he holds the defence together at the moment but if our back 6 was Kennelly, Eski, Mattner, Leo, Richards and LRT they would do alright against most teams wouldn't they?

Meanwhile Bolton slots in with Rhino, Micky, JMoore, Amon and Henry providing a third tall yet small matchup dilemna for the opposition. Throw Festival Hall and an in form Tricky Nick up there and you've got a tough front 6 to contain.

If King plays on Moore we will just need to clear out the forward line and have a one on one contest.Moore will kill him in the air and is too smart and strong for him if the ball hits the deck.
I like King as a determined, hard running backman but I think he does have some defensive deficienies.

Moore will beat King in the air but he will have a hard time chasing him around the ground when King runs off him. Hopefully we won't allow you to catch us out 1v1.

I was just about to point out the same thing myself. I reckon King will definately do Moore for pace.

Read an article today where Leo is quoted being "excited" at the prospect of Goodes matching up on Richardson this weekend. If true, it will certainly be a clash worth the price of admission. :thumbsu:

Could be one of the contests of the season if they do however Richo will only play on the wing for half the match so who will pick him up when he go's forward?

every time i think of c bolton as a forward (which isn't often) i remember him running into an open goal v geelong in 05 semi, when every other player had stopped and he played on and missed from 20m in front
i thought that was about our last chance to start a comeback in that game and i shudder at the memory

Very disappointed in that decision. I thought Schmidty was better than Bird last week and showed great poise to kick the goal that put us ahead
bird hasn't done much wrong
i like schmidt, but i think every game bird plays is a valuable lesson for a bloke who will one day captain the club

Would you really play someone on richo to get them in form, you make him sound like a dud rather than one of the brownlow favourites

Bird has been ok, but i still think he seems to 'rush' his possessions when he has a bit more time to assess his options. Also seems to get caught holding the ball, but has been alright otherwise. Like J-Swan, would have liked to have seen Schmidt in the team, i thought he was due for a big year to be honest.

No ...

Just saying, he has done very well against Richo pretty recently, so if he's up to it again, he might run himself into some form.

Jack Reiwoldt is reasonably tall. That matchup would make sense to me.

i want schmodt in too, i don;t think kennelly should be back this week
i just don;t hold to the theory that because he's young, bird needs a "rest"
yes, bird still needs to more composed, but that will come with more senior game time
it's a good sign of our depth that the likes of schmidt, barlow, white, laidlaw and smith, among others, are awaiting a chance for a senior recall, having had a taste in the past 12 months or so
